LK65 - Demigod - world map

(4)1620AD: Apparently Iros killed some of the Aztec landing troops (they have a town on the same island as Dortmund). Only an injured knight and a longbow left.

First thing first, 2 elite cavs take out Dijon and Babylon is gone.

@Songhai:
Elephant army takes Herakleia. Songhai is cleared from the Siberia. it's size 5 but I keep the city as it's far away from Songhai.
One cav captures Tendirma and I keep it as it's size-1.
Two cav armies raze Hieraconpolis. It has a saltpeter.
One cav army captures Diara. I keep it as it has Saltpeter and there are lots of Zulu units around it.
One cav army razes Lisht.

I ship a new army to America, as we have enough armies already on our own continent.

@Aztec:
2 cav armies raze Concordia.
Lose an elite cav and we capture Log Angeles.
Kill lots of Aztec units.

Rush a lot of settlers as we are running out of them (yeah I used almost 20 of them I think).

I love the sound of a civ dying on the world map. Saying goodbye to Babylon :wavey: :wavey:

I am soliciting comments for the next WM game.

I am seriously thinking of getting rid of the 1 square. I am just getting time off the map still having 1cc civs because of a single island square. This game has it for Brazil, Germany and I think USA.

Can anyone think of a good reason to keep these nonsense islands?

IBT nothing worth mentioning.

(5)1625AD:

@Aztec:
We lose 3 cavs and raze lxtapaluca. It has saltpeter which we then settle on. Aztecs now have no saltpeter.
Lose one cav we take Cabruta.
Lose two cavs we take Tepetlaoxtoc.
I could have used cannons to lower the casualty but they are just too slow to catch up.

@Songhai:
Raze Gwandu.
2 cav armies take out Gao, and Songhai gets a new capital.
cav army captures Tadmekket.
a cav army and an elephant army take Kukiya.
Bablos also razed same way.

Units position:

@Aztec front: We have three armies healing in Cleveland together with 2 settlers. Another 2 armies in Saltpeter City and Cabruta respectively. We also have a lot of cavs healing in Los Angeles.

We have a lot of galleons that can transport b/t Asia and America in one turn - check Phoenix and Las Vegas.

@Songhai front: Extra units/settlers/cannons placed next to our capital. I have two healthy armies unmoved this turn. One army healing in capital. 8 cavs awaiting your order. I also put stacks of workers there, which if I'm less lazy I could have used them to chop more forests in the north.

I fortified some galleons and forgot to wake up so you have to find them yourself..don't know what to do with them, though.

I just started a coal plant in Madras due in 4 turns. It then can build ToE in 10 turns using Palace as prebuild. If we keep min research on Electricity and then do full research on Sci Method we'll get it just about in time. Get Atomic Theory and Electronics, then Madras can proceed to build Hoover in about 14 turns.

We have 43% land. We gained 4% during my turns. If we can keep this rate, we'll reach domination in about 25-30 turns.

And Russia too. I actually rushed two galleons in the north. We could declare and take its other two cities (including capital), but it has a one-tile island left as well.

I see it, and will start tonight.

As to further game, have you considered making some of the early medieval units ( besides the zerk) amphibious ?
Having amphibious swords or longbows/medievals would not make the one-tile islands showstoppers, and also force more tactical considerations on how much defense to put in coastal cities.

Otherwise, if one is still left with no way to get at the one-tile islands, then dump them. They do not add anything to the game, except making use of the trade screen more obnoxious than it needs be.

Grimjack, if you have started playing say so and we can swap. Otherwise, you are out of turn. Are you afraid I will leave you with nothing but a building turn?

I can't believe I missed that mistake. Grimjack, please let us know what is going on.

I am off the bat as always. For some reaosn I assumed it was my turn after Microbe.

Go ahead Meldor, I have not started.

My apologies for not thinking.

I wake up the Cav and settlers and am suprised at the lack of use of the combat settlers. maybe it is because it takes twice as long to capture, but we will start employing them even if it take twice as long to do city replacement. We want to move the line forward. The settlers move up and the Cav collect up a bunch of songhai workers that can act as sappers. I then wake up the armies and position them to attack next turn. I pick off some 7-8 Songhai workers isolated near our troops. Not much to do in America as almost all units are healing. There seems to be a lack of defenders and I think I will rush some rifles. Next, I make the circuit of the embassies. I get 11gpt and all her gold from Russia for Free Artistry. Every little bit helps. The Iroquois have some loose cash and we made an agreement with them last turn, so they get dyes for 63gpt. I would sell him saltpeter, but he only has 29gpt left and it wouldn't be full price. One question, where did all our cannon go?
(I)The Songhaisend in some rifles to try and get there slaves back. They then go after the Zulu and them and the Zulu exchange forces. The Aztecs send in some pillagers but nothing more.

Found a city in Songhai territory. We capture Nioro long enough to get a settler up. Which lets us capture Bursa long enough to bring a settler up. Which allows us to capture Sokoto long enough to bring a settler up. Which allows us to raze Jenne (No good settler placement to attack another city) and capture Agadez long enough to bring a settler up. This allows us to raze the city of Kangaba. The city of Segu is captured long enough to bring a settler up. I seem to be running out of sappers on this front (not to mention attackers, so I take a break and pick up some 12 Songhai workers isolated behind the lines by the change in battlefield conditions. I didn't count the ones we got out of cities, maybe 10 more, and 6-7 cannon. This is all I can do for th enight. I will try to finsh off the Songhai front and start with the Iroquois tomorrow.

A small type a suppose,
tomorrow you will start the Aztecs, and not the Iroqs, since you just sold them Dyes...

Not sure what you mean. Songhai isn't a culture-rich tribe and during my turns we could easily reach its towns, but I did use them and that's how we razed Songhai's capital so quickly. I could have used more if I hadn't left you two healthy armies to use.

We have one or two stacks of cannon close to our capital. Others are in or close to our front cities.

OK, I guess I expected to see them in place for the next round of assualts and to make the movement through the tundra easier. My bad, I do appreciate the 17 settlers you left me, although I fear I have used over half of them already.

@Grimjack, maybe it was just my evil twin thinking aloud. With Aztec and Songhai lands out of the way, the Zulu and Iroquois lands will finish this thing off quickly.

@Lee, I don't think you need to worry about the culture victory. We won't get close before this one is over.

Well, it was a Boy Scout night so I won't have as much time as I would normally. Tomorrow I pick some folks up at the airport after work so the report might be sparse then as well. Finishing up on the Songhai side, we capture Walata long enough to bring an settler up and replace it. Turning to the Aztecs now. We liberate Tumeremo and in doing so we get another leader. Looks like a nice Cav army to add to the assualt forces. We fill the new army with 3 Cav and then use it to capture Chiconautla. We then capture El Amparo as well. We then capture New Orleans with six much needed workers. I would normally move a settler up and then abandon it, but the settler can't make it this turn and so we will hold it a turn. I then take a break and settle 3 new towns, one in NZ, one in Alaska and one in Africa.

OK, I know I didn't even complete one turn, but that is all for the night.
Totals for this turn so far:
9 Songhai cities, leaving them only 4 that aren't islands.
4 Aztec cities, leaving them too many.
3 New cities.

And like a deck of cards, they fall to the right and left....

We fill the new army with 3 Cav
Why not 4 cav? We have the pentagon. Are you worried about bringing them back home?

LKendter said:

No, the Cav that produced the leader didn't have any movement left and so I have to wait until next turn to add it into the army. Otherwise, it would have been 4.

Also, at this point, do we care about our rep? We can probably finish this game quickly if we hit both the Zulu and Iroquois once we finish with the Songhai and Aztecs respectively. Unfortunately, the ongoing deals would force us to double the game length. The Songhai are toast and by two more turns should be left with 3 island cities, 1 is a single tile. Do we then have to wait the full 16 or so turns before taking out the Zulu, when we could eat them in under 10? The Aztecs will take slightly longer because of the Rockies, but once we break out onto the plains, they should be toast in a couple of turns. We would then have 15 or so turns before we could hit the Iroquois. The combination of these two civs should put us over the top. However, waiting for the deals to expire would add many turns. On the other hand, after 15 turns of peaceful war prep, we would probably roll over them quickly.

I really don't want to open up exceptions to the LK houserules on breaking trade deals. If you put any gray area into a rule, you can debate that one for a long time. However, read the bleow quote.

I ship wines to Iros for MA and 38gpt. Wines to Argentina for MA and 56gpt.
Wines to Zulu for MA against Songhai and 24gpt.

If the only thing going the the Iroquois is wines, then that deal will go away when the Aztecs die. The same thing for Argentina. Let's kill the Aztecs, and see what opens up. Any civ is a good target at this point.

fyi - I did destroy the 1 square islands for the next game.

Back at it. I cover all the sappers and then spend 1.5 hours going throught the cities and trimming them up to get us another 250gpt income. I rush a bunch of settler, temples and Cav. I take the pitiful number left in the nice stack from the start of the turn and ship them over to North America. Not much to do diplomatically. I finally reach the end of the first turn.
(I) We lose some exposed CAv and the Songhai manage to take back a city. Unfortunately the Zulu then capture it from them and another, leaving the Songhai with 3 cities on the mainland.

1635 AD (2)
Start with the Songhai and raze and replace Edfu gaining 4 workers. Timbuktu gets the same treatment giving us 4 workers and 4 cannon. Komba Saleh gets razed and replaced netting 5 workers and a cannon. The Songhai capital went to the one square island, so the will join the rest on the island of misfit toys. On the other side of things, we capture the city of St. Louis, right ahead of the Iroquois. The 6 workers will be handy, although I shipped a bunch over and have more loaded to come. You can never have enough sappers. Cempoala is captured so we can place the settler and then abandon it. Tamuin is next to get the capture/abandon treatment. We help out the Iroquois and retake their city of Tonawanda.

I will call it a night here and do some more tomorrow.
