LK65 - Demigod - world map

Just a small vote, but I don't really care either way...
I have my PC set up to play 1.15, 1.20. or 1.22, so I'm capable of any choice.
I would kind of like to do a SG game on 1.22 (especially one of this magnitude) to see what it is like. Since we are just starting out here, the non-loading of older game saves is a non-issue.
(I *will* miss the Radio Tech though. :( )

This game is close to starting as we have almost finished testing the map.

As for the patch level I am sticking with 1.15 for the moment. Starting on 1.20 / 1.22 will cause headaches for players with SG still @1.15. Due to the inability to load 1.15 in the newer version getting SGs up to 1.22 will be very hard.

The testing in complete, and I will be starting the demigod level game. :)

Well the random resources gave us no extra food by the start, so I simply build Delhi where I stand on a river. Research is started on pottery with an absurd time to complete, but some extra commerce should quickly help that.

3800BC
One additional road drops the due time from 44 to 34 turns. I can't wait for that first city growth.

3450BC
We have first contact from Persia when an exploring spearman from the east. I am surprised to see them from that side. We trade them alphabet for masonry.

3250BC
(IT) We get kicked out of Persian territory, but it was in the right direction.

3200BC
We have first contact with Babylon, but have nothing to trade.

3100BC
We have first contact with the Mongols and trade Alphabet for Pottery, Warrior Code and $20. :D

3050BC
(IT) I watch Babylon pop a hut, and get the wheel.

3000BC
(IT) The most powerful civ list has Australia has number one!

2900BC
(IT) Arggg - Persia built Arbela next to my planned cow city. We lost a first ring city site, and a location to claim ivory.

2800BC
We have first contact with Egypt and can't pull of a trade.

2750BC
We have first contact with China. It favors him, but I trade Alphabet for Bronze Working.

2710BC
Bombay is formed and will claim a wine after border expansion. A temple is immediately ordered.

2630BC
I risk popping a hut, and I manage to draw the typical angry barbs.
(IT) Our warrior survived with just 1 hp left.

2430BC
We have first contact with Greece, and once again have nothing to trade.

2310BC
We continue to get contacts like crazy. First contact with France, but the pattern of nothing to trade continues.

2230BC
We now have contact with Germany.

2150BC
I decide to risk another hut pop, and get stuck with angry warriors again. :(

I can see another border in a bit north of the warrior. We can expect another first contact shortly.

Summary:
Our warrior is trying to reach Europe. This is the key block of early contacts we need.

This is going to be a lot different then the previous world map games. We have the double growth rate of the AI due to demigod. World map trading used to provide a ton of cash early in the game, and now it is ages until map trading. Contact trading is a long way to go, but I still suspect it will benefit us to get to the Americas first.

In the next post are the starting lands of India. The settler is heading toward the city site marked A. This gives us another city site will decent growth thank to the sugar, and our third city on a river. It also gives us the valuable coastal city for our galleys to find the Americas and Australia with. An early temple from this city wouldn't hurt. Let's take advantage religious for some early culture.

Just off the edge of the map by Bombay are wines that are inside our border. The white arrow points to a source of gems I would like to get. We really want to get some of those mountains for probable iron, coal, saltpeter, etc.

The worker is heading toward Bombay to irrigate the game and sugar to get a decent food supply from a city. We need a good source of settlers and workers.

preturn: nothing to change.

IBT Germany starts Oracle.

(1)2110BC: the eastern warrior ignores 3 barbs and keeps heading east. We meet Russia, and there is no deal possible.

IBT Persian settler/warrior approaches the city we want to settle, but I think we can beat them.

(2)2070BC: We found Madras, start curragh.

IBT Persian settler bypasses Madras heading east. Delhi warrior->warrior.

(3)2030BC: Mongols has Mathematics. We could buy Mysticism for 173g + 8gpt, but it's a tech a lot of AIs have, so I hold.

IBT France completes Colossus.

(4-6)1990BC-1910BC: zzz

IBT Russia kicks us out and we are back to the east.

(7)1870BC: zzz

IBT Delhi warrior->worker.

(8)1830BC: Persia has settled to our east and once it expands it will grab the two Tobacco. :(

(9-10)1790BC-1750BC: zzz

Our granary and curragh will be completed next turn.

There is incense south to Madras that we want to settle.

I followed this and ordered the worker to irrigate the sugar this turn. However, I then realized that sugar gives 1+ food and it will be offset by despotism. :( Fortunately it just started this turn so we could cancel it..

Hmm, somewhat aggressive Persian settlement. I wonder how long it will be before we can spank them out of our rightful lands.

Good going folks.

I wonder how long before some wars to to burn there initial troops?

======================

With the aggresive level of Persian settlements I would really like to see more cheap temples built. I would rather have a chance of a flip, rather then loss a city to a flip.

I agree 100% with Microbe that to get that incense. We have wines and I would love a second luxury this early.

There isn't much to report. We have a settler and spear headed south to claim the incense. I have a worker connecting the wines. We need luxes to trade and badly. The demands have started and we have to cave for now. If we can get two more cites we are going to have to go on pointy stick research. Math is known and even with only 9 turns left, wwe can't buy it for anything. Watch every turn. There are trades to be had if we get Math before it is spread completely.

The curragh is headed for Australia, we need exclusive contacts. Once it hits Autralia, it should head for America.

The AI gets 3 free offensive units at demigod. We may be able to handle that soon. The key is to watch for signs of war. If we can vulture an injured Persia for a couple of spots...

I couldn't agree more - if Australia has cash for techs it would help a lot.

Is there a curragh navigable path in the south to America ?

Would it be faster to build another Curragh, and go the northern road ?

Grimjack

The South Pacific is deep, nearly empty and forlorn (usually the last place to be explored). So no....you have to follow the extinct land bridge to North America in the north.

LK65, 1500BC
Short term plans:
Settle near incense
Make a new settler, letting next player decide if we go for the gems, or fill out the south.
See if Curragh reach Australia.

1500BC As usual at this stage, we lack units/workers/cities/production/younameitandwelackit
We are also way behind in techs. Persia is up all the techs. At least some of the Ais lack some techs, so hopefully when Math comes in in ten turns, we can make some deals.
I am reluctant to make deals before I spot the Australians.

IBT: Persia starts Zeus.

1475, 1450, Bombay completes a spearman and starts a settler. 1425, Delhi completes spearman, and start a granary,1400,1375 We get Persian help as they statr roading our lands in an attempt to connect their poached city to the rest of their empire.
1350,We get wines into our roadnet,1325, 1300 Found Bangalore near the Incense. Babylonians steal a city cite in the Himalayas. This city makes it on the target list, since there is likely some good resource here, like iron.

1275 Math comes in, and I start a Currency min run. ( It is the most expensive of mthe visible techs. )
Another Persian poacher <cough cough> settler comes southwards. Our settler finishes, and I will send him southwards as well, hoping to divert the Persian settler frmo whatever he wants down south.
We could take a chance and send the settler towards the gems to our east, but that city would be indefensible from Chinese and Mongols, both nations notorious for sneak attacks.
French start Artemis.

Nations Lacking Math:
Egypt, up Wheel, Iron, Mysticism, owns 35 gold
Lots of countries lack Writing though.
I buy Writing from Mongols for 16 gpt and 412 chests of gold.
Get Mysticism and WHeel from Chinese together wth 2 gold for Writing
Get Iron Working and 35 gold from Egypt for Mathematics.
We can get 165 gold from Greece for Writing, but I will wait until price goes down. With some luck he may get Horseback, and then we can trade for that instead.

In Summary, We get Writing, Wheel, Iron, Mysticism for 16 gpt and 370 chests of gold.
( It is of course our entire income for the next twenty turns..... )

I move some warriors to block the Persian settler.

IBT: Madras completes Barracks, and I set it preliminary on temple. It might be better to start cranking chariots or even sneak out a curargh to go looking for African nations.

1250 We do have horses roaded. Iron is far away to the east. It might be good to send settler to east to claim either iron or gems. We have a warrior near the iron, blocking access to the iron site.

Hope you can catch up. Save is here

I will never argue with some bonus road, and maybe some workers to steal. :D

We do have horses roaded. [dance]

I notice Bombay building spearman without barracks. Unless we critically need that spearman, I would prefer to switch to barracks.

Bombay is just building an escort while growing for next settler. NOw that we haev moer cities, this may not be necessary, and I would agree on the barracks.
The sooner we start getting some horsemen, the faster we can get some more room to live in.
