LK65 - Demigod - world map

Here comes the game. Hope you can get it before the forum closes. If I do not know, I will send mail after forum closes.

I come to a not so good start, as I misclick and ship incense to the Argentineans. They pay us decently for it though. ( 100 + 11 gpt ).
Not much to do before hitting End of turn. I do some partial rushes by way of Longbow. Things sure have progressed from the last time I played.
I do switch the entertainers into taxmen.

IBT: Songhai and France ally against Egypt. Songhai signs in Zulu against the Egyptians.

860AD: Nothing much happens. I move troops into position for besieging two Babylonian cities, and a lot of MM.

IBT: Egypt signs up Greece against Zulus

870 Siege of Uruk reveals two redlined regular Muskets, and at least two wounded veteran spearmen. Good enough odds for a charge later after all siege is done. Siege of Samarra reveals at least two veteran Muskets. I will see if the wounded appears after our army deals with the unwounded veteran.
I lose one WE in the battle for Uruk, but Uruk is now ours. I will make sure to not station more than single troops in it until we have dealt firmly with the Babylonians. ( There are AI settlers in the neighbourhood, or I would have razed. We gain two Trebs by capturing this. I then capture another Treb heading towards Uruk guarded by a Musket.
I have almost spent my inheritance. Our coffers have shrunk from 2500 to 850 due to mainly rushing Muskets in the front, partial rushes in the core, and culture in the southeast. I will stop the rush mania for a short while, so that we have money should a good twofer present itself. I am not terribly motivated to tech though, as with our Elephants we ought to be able to pointy stick for quite some while.
I do not trust the trade routes to Russia, so she gets to keep her 21 gpt for at least two more turns, when I intend to sell her a tech.
We can get Astronomy from Chinese for some 100 gpt, salt and Music Theory. Tempting, but no thanks.

IBT: Quiet.

880 Samarra falls to the mighty tusks of our Elephants, and is razed. We have settlers prepared, that will reach in two turns.

IBT: So much for that small window. China comes and demands Saltpeter. This is a 100gpt equivalent demand. I know they have riders, and we have only a skeleton defense, so I cave and write China on the top of the list of nations we should do something about.
Greek settlers come running trying to fill in the gap from the Babylonian city.
Babylon, Persia and Egypt sign peaces.

890 Large amounts of Trebuchets make us lose nothing as we capture Nippur. Once again, main reason is no settlers nearby. I will station an Ancient in it, and the WE outside to recapture if need be.
We are running out of Babylonians. The known Babylonian cities is on the other side of Persia. I will aim our army against Persia and Egypt, as those looks weak.

IBT: I am annoyed. The greeks steal the free spot where I razed the Babylonian city. They ignored my blockade by settling inside their own cultural borders.

900 I raze the Babylonian city of Ellipi, and plant a city of my own next to the ruins. We are up to new Bombay now.

LK65_910AD.jpg

910 I discover Persia is bribing us for something, so I redirect my forces, and declare war against Greece after signing peace with Babylon. I grab two cities in the peace deal, prepared to abandon them should they be indefensible.

IBT: Persia declare on the Greeks
We get Bach¡¦s, and I suspect most of our possible happiness problems are over for a long time. Most of the cascade dies, but Zulu start Copernicus

920 This is likely to be bloody, but I start the siege of Delphi without artillery support. Greece has no iron, nor Saltpeter. One of the three Hoplites manages to defeat a WE, but is redlined, and city is defended by a longbow when our Ancient cavalry strikes.
Looking at our cities, I see we are totally happy ļ :band:
LK65_Happy.jpg

930 No battles. Continue to move troops into position. I am hesitant about Persia or China, but I move some troops close to Persia for the next player. A possible target could be Zulu, but they are very strong, and have many many muskets. I use both our armies to punch a hole in the defenses of Athens, and we own this seat of power as well. A stubborn longbow almost manages to kill a veteran Elephant. I am starting to get tired of the no deals, but I manage to hold my itching trade fingers. There is no NEED for Astronomy now. We are not interested in Copernicus, and can manage with Galleys. It is a long time to wait for banking though, and our prebuild will not last that long.

IBT: Montezuma of the Aztecs wants us to send them incense. I decline, and they were bluffing.

940 I found New Bangalore to get a water channel to the Black sea. France and China have Banking, so it may be time to pay attention on the trading scene. Banking would be some 250 gpt. This would also get us Astronomy, better securing traderoutes. I sell Engineering to America for some spare change. I decide we want banks sooner rather than later, and I pay up Incense save us 22 gpt, so I include that in the deal, and pray for the trade route to not be broken. Trade route is through Germany, or through Songhai+Zulu waters. Or a twisted route through the American waters. I miscalculated and I need to pay another 55 gpt for Astronomy to the Zulus. I discover that Physics is out in the wild. I make another deal, and sell Banking, 44 gpt and peace renegotiation to Egypt for Physics. If you want to live dangerously, then sell iron and horses to Egypt for a lot of money. Egypt is at the bottom of a dogpile, and we do not know where their harbour is.

France, China, Zululand and Egypt are the apparent tech leaders, and China looks like a real monster to be. They are of course next to us, and may not be around for much longer due to this dangerous influence.

I pay 164 gpt for a 32 turn research into Economics. This will fit nicely with our 36 turn prebuild. If you want to take a chance, and see if we can net a monopoly tech, then drive the research up as far as we can afford.
950 Hmm, I missed Pune rioting for some reason. I thought I had gone through all our cities.
I capture Sparta, since I do not believe in the extended lifespan of the greeks. I lose a War Elephant in the siege of Corinth, but we gain control. ( Defended by three Hoplites on a hill. )

Note that we have one elephant inside Persian borders far in the north. Do not declare on Persians until this is moved. Otherwise, there are two large stacks of troops just outside Persian borders, and you can do some major mayhem upon them. Or you can spend your turn building infra, and position troops for a huge strike at the Chinese in ten turns when deals with them run out. ( One stack is outside Bactra, and one stack is outside Heidelburg. Our two armies should be used to take out the last Greek cities in Europe. The greeks have five cities left. I suggest you sign up as many as possible to strike against them, to eliminate the flip risk.

It is starting to be a time to make some research by ourselves, in case you no longer wish to warmonger, then a couple of sneaked in libraries would be fine. They could be fine even if we do not research, since we could use the culture.
Also, remember to put the research slider where you want it. I am afraid the AIs will spend their research time on Democracy, so there is a slight chance there wont be any Economics when our prebuild completes. That¡¦s why I started the research.

Grimjack out.

Here is the save.

Or you can spend your turn building infra, and position troops for a huge strike at the Chinese in ten turns when deals with them run out.
I think China is the last major threat near our borders. My feeling says lots of banks, and to move the troops next to China.

That or a five turn strike on Persia to raze cities for workers, then on to China.

Aiieee! Sorry, profuse apologies, *insert appropriate groveling behaviour here*. I had a family emergency all weekend, and couldn't play. This after Grimjack kindly took the extra effort to email his save and turn log.
I am starting to play it now, but I'm way over the time limit.
If you want to punish me by a skip or something, let me know in the next few hours, please.

Considering how sick I am at the moment - I couldn't take it right now.

It is a chore to simply sit up and view these boards...

Pre-turn. Everything looks pretty good. I will try to finish off the Greeks, stage for an attack on China (13 turns left from their Saltpeter extortion of us), and think about an attack on Persia in the meantime. Need our Banks and hopefully some Libraries up and and running in our core cities, and need to continue research on Economics.
Sell Astronomy to Germans for 171 gold, 57 gpt, and 2 Workers. Decided the trades to Egypt are too risky with the number of enemies they have. Rush a couple of Temples in Indonesia.

IT We lost our Dyes trade with China. Good riddance. Zulu declare on the Russians. No Greek counters. No flips.

960 (1) Healing turn. Defeat a Hoplite at Rhodes. Clean up 3 wandering Greek units. Hurry another two Temples in our conquered cities.

IT Brazil and the Iroquis go at it. (I'm not reporting all the "fake alliances where someone from the old world signs in a new world civ in a MA, if that's all right with everyone). Babylonia founds a guaranteed size 1 max city in the middle of the Arabian Desert. Zulu Settler? ships are swarming through Indonesia. BTW. It's kind of neat how we control both sides of the Bering Strait at this stage of the game!

970 (2) Some resistance in cities are ending. Starving them down and going for Workers/Temples, then Muskets. Sell some techs to the laggards for 100+ gold and 55+ gpt. Kill a Greek Longbow by Rhodes. Kill 4 Hoplites in Thermopylae and capture the Greek Capital. They only have two cities left, Rhodes and Thessalonica, both in Siberia and size 3. They have enough enemies that I hope someone can finish them off. Rush a Tusker near Rhodes to help up there. With their huge palace jump in distance, the flip risk should diminish considerably (I hope!)

IT Persia declares war on Egypt. Hopefully that keeps their excess units busy.

980 (3) Healing turn. Rush a couple of Temples in our Greek cities. Discover yet another Iron Source in Indonesia.

IT We lost our Fur and Spice deals. Our first Banks start completing.

990 (4) Kill 2 Hoplites in Rhodes, at least 1 still defending. Movement of armies from Greek campaign to Persians. Get Furs and Spices back from the Iros for Astronomy. Sell Education to the Songhai for 71 gold and 19gpt.

IT Argentina declares agains the Greeks (Great. It will take them 50 turns to even got to their last city!) The zulu want us to break our Peace Treaty with the Babylonians - no thanks.

1000 (5) New Lahore founded in Indonesia. Kill 2 more Hoplites in Rhodes and capture it. Darn! Somehow the Greek got another city. Still 2 to go. I decide to make peace with them since it would take forever to get forces up to Siberia to take out their cities. Peace plus 60 gold plus 21 gpt plus the city of Thessalonica. Troops are finally arriving at the Persian front from the Greek wars.

IT Germany and Egypt make peace.

1010 (6) Declare war on the Persians and invade on 3 different fronts. Capture Heidelburg from 2 Persian Muskets with the loss of one W.E. and one A.C. Capture 3 loose Persian Workers.

IT Zulus and Babylon sign peace. Greece and Russia sign peace. We lose one of our Elephants in Siberia inside French territory when a Persian Longbow appeared out of the fog with an ROP.

1020 (7) Bactra (Persian Capital) falls with 5 Muskets defending. We lose one W.E. and capture a Treb and 2 Workers. Bampur falls with 2 Muskets and 1 Longbow defending, and we suffer no losses and gain 2 workers and a promotion.

IT Do not renew ROP with Russia. Lose a WE to a Persian Longbow coming out of the city of Bangor. China declares against the Russians. That is good news for us as hopefully their strike forces will be far to the west when we attack their homeland in about 6-8 turns??

1030 (8) Capture Sardis from 3 Muskets and a Longbow, and almost lose a W.E. army doing it. (Down to 2 hp) Capture a Treb and 2 workers. Healing turn otherwise. The Zulus have learned Magnetism.

IT Spot a very large Chinese SoD heading North (Russian city?) passing through the Persian town of Pharsolas (where our elephants are heading) Russia and Persia sign peace. Germany and Babylon sign peace. 2 Persian Longbows are repulsed by our Elephants on a hill near Pharsolas.

1040 (9) Healing turn. Rush a few Temples.

IT A bunch of Civs are ganging up on Russia now. (Songhai, Aztecs, Zulu). France and Babylon sign peace. Russia and Germany sign peace. Lots of border expansions makes our empire look more cohesive.

1050 (10) Capture Hannover (Persian) with no losses (mostly German city so no need to starve down). We also gain 2 Trebs and a worker. Also Capture Choybalsan with 2 Workers and a Treb with no losses (But another heavily wounded army.)
The Persians will talk peace now, and will give 9 gold, 15 gpt, and 2 to 3 junk cities for it. I suggest we take it and prepare for the offensive against China, but the next leader can decide for sure. 3 turns left on China's extortion of Saltpeter from us.
The tech leaders have learned Democracy. We have Economics due in 17 turns at 30% Science. We are earning 319 gpt and have 965 gold, so we can certainly expand the research rate. In our core I've been finishing banks, plugging in a quick Library, and then going back to Military builds. China will be a huge, challenging task, methinks.
(Oh yeah, I misclicked a couple of workers. If they are in the middle of a mountain range with no obvious benefit to development there, it was a mistake)

The Game at 1050

Looks like we made serious progress. If we have straightened out our borders with Persia, I would agree to concentrate on China. We are likely to need concentrating solely on taking out them. Do not forget their SoD in the north, should they make a U-turn.

Hope you will feel better soon LKendter.

Microbe's free time is getting slaughtered over on AG3. I don't know if he'll be up to this one right away...

Well I was awake 3 to 4 hours on Monday.
Today looks like it will improve to 6 to 7 hours, and I am somewhat more with it.
I learned today that with an HMO and seeing a doctor when you are out of town is

I suspect it is at least another 2 days before I can play a useful game.

EDIT: Eliminated the wait to see what Microbe has to comment - he got it, and I hope to be well enough to play after him.

Preturn: wow, we are much bigger than last time I saw it. Actually the biggest.

We actually can build Copernicus, but I guess we are aiming for Smith's. We can get Smith's in 7 turns, so I raise sci to get it in 7 turns with -143gpt - with 965g in bank it won't be enough, but hopefully we can earn some money soon.

IBT Bab and France MA against Egypt. Renew incense deal with Argentina.

Persia wants to talk and I don't accept peace yet. Longbow promotes our WE.

(1)1060AD: AC captures 2 persian slave workers.

New Kohapur is founded.

Shoot, this is a Persian settler and it complains about our aggression about its motherland.

We can sell iron to France for 719g+71gpt (full price), and the trade route is safe, so I make the deal. Also horses to her for 37gpt (full price too). France has Magnetism too but I'd go for money instead of tech. We'll get it after we have Economics.

Gems to Germany for 13gpt.

We can sell gems to Iros for 33gpt but I don't want to help him.

(2)1070AD: Lose one WE and we capture Pharsalos. No resistance (3 Greek in it).

Almost capture Knossos but one attacker short (2-hp musket left in). Not likely we'll get it next turn as almost all our WEs are redlined. So I sign peace and get Istakhr+4 slave workers (unfortunately no gpt or gold is available).

Now Economics due in 4 turns with some libraries finished.

IBT Iro/France MA vs Egypt. Brazil/Greece sign peace. Chengdu (China) completes Copernicus. This city is at the border with us. ;) All cascades ended.

(3)1080AD: China also gets Megnetism.

IBT Germany/France MA against Egypt.

(4)1090AD: I sell Physics to Germany for 310g + 17gpt.

IBT Greece/Germany sign peace.

(5)1100AD: Some Songhai Dyinas are in our territory and they captured a city from somebody. They are at war with Russia so should not be going after us. I renegotiate peace with them anyway.

IBT Zulu/Russia sign peace. China/Zulu MA against Greece. Economics->Metallury. Lots of Zulu knights also enter our land.

(6)1110AD: Economics to China for Magnetism+152g+2gpt. To Egypt for 141g+129gpt. To France for 2110g+27gpt. To Zulu for 48g+73gpt.

We are now getting +609gpt from the AI, and in 3 turns we'll get our 211gpt payment back.

Switch Palace to Smith's due in 1.

We have too few universities/libraries so doing research isn't really worth compared to tax income (0 sci -> +1016gpt, 100 sci -> 719 in sci and +3gpt).

I rush a library and 3 universities. I set sci to 0 for a couple of turns, and rush some universities and then start full research.

Found New Japur.

I don't know how we are going to fight China - we share a pretty long border. I think we should get cavs first. We need to capture cities in the first turn before those riders have a chance to respond.

IBT lots of Chinese units move around Smolensk.

Argentina/Aztecs sign peace.

We build Smith's Trading Company.

(7)1120AD: zzz

IBT Aztecs/France MA vs Greece. Zulu/Aztecs MA vs Babylon.

(8)1130AD:

Embassy with Songha: Gao is size 12, 11spt, 4 lux, 5 musket, has all improvement and is building wealth.

Embassy with Aztecs: Tenochtitlan is size 10, 20spt, 4 lux, 4 musket, building knight.

Iro has silks.

IBT sign RoP with Egypt for 8gpt - she has only one city left. France starts Shakespear.

(9)1140AD: zzz

IBT France/Egypt sign peace. Renew peace with Egypt. Venezuela declares on Iro. Greece/Persia sign peace. France/Russia sign peace. Persia/Germany sign peace. Zulu/China also start Shakespear.

(10)1150AD: nothing.

I think Chinese units are all in the weat and north cities, so we may capture some cities in its core. However, we'll lose Rhodes/Lars. I put about half/half in the west and east fronts, but I feel we'd need more defense in the west. Chinese military is stronger than ours.

I set sci to 0 in the last few turns. We can get Metallury in 7 turns.

1150AD

We build Smith's Trading Company. [dance]

==================================

1110AD: Economics to China for Magnetism+152g+2gpt.
Why did we sign an open deal with China?
I think I need to rewrite my houserules again. I don't like declaring war with any open deals, and IMHO recieving gpt is an open deal.

I think it's just a matter of "feel comfortable". There is no rep hit issue, nor is it distardly. We'll just lose a few gold in this case if we declare before it pays off.

If you add it to your rules, sure we can stick to it. But currently it's not there unless I missed it.

Yes. China will be a difficulty nut to crack. I understand your hesitation throroughly. We not only share a very long border, but have to worry about their forces to the North of us since they have ROP with just about everyone in Siberia.

BTW... What is our victory goal in this game?

:hammer: Domination, what else? This is part of the world map challenge. Trying to dominate before launch. For how large we have gotten domination looks well set. We have most of the key wonders - Smith's, Bach's, Sistine and Sun Tzu already.

Alrighty then. We probably need to take as quick a bite as possible out of China pretty soon to slow them down some, otherwise they could be monsters come the Cav age. It will take a skillful warmonger to do it...I hope Lee feels up to it!

I do not like us being at peace. HOw about us taking whats left of Russia if China is too tough ?

Good turns Microbe,

A few turns of peace don't hurt. :crazyeye:
If nothing else, we need time to move between the fronts.

Our empire is getting awful large to manage and protect without the joy of rails.
