LK72 - 5 City Conquest - Deity - Ottoman

Red dot is our third city. We will need a coastal city to help ship our spare Ivory and Spices. Of course, we DON'T want to ship the Ivory until after we build Zeus.

The white question marks could be a city if iron is down there. Otherwise that spot is to unproductive.

You don't have cultural link on, do you? It would be nice to have a screenshot..

Please show some patience. ;)

I can only move so fast with dial-up.

A thought: Would we like a city SE of the mountain, to grab spices after expansion and also get the goldhill?

The red dot could stay or even be moved 1 NW to gain a forest to chop and more landtiles to work on later.

5th city placement is a bit away and without further info we should save it for eventual iron. Sorry if I point out the obvious.:)

I've got it, but won't be able to play for a few more hours.

I agree with gozpel's suggestion for our fourth city. Hopefully by the time placement of #5 comes up we'll be able to see horses and iron.

I DON'T want to move red dot. We need a coastal city and this will be our only one. The spice city was a high posibility. I was hoping we would know the iron location before deciding on city #4.

Preturn- We're looking good.

IT- Russia boots us.

T1 2110 BC

IT- Istanbul-settler-warrior

Persia starts the Pyramids.

T2 2070

Settler begins trip to red dot.

T3 2030

We make contact with Celts. They have yet to have discovered Alphabet :D

I get Iron Working from Brennus for Alphabet and 56g. He's still up Pottery, CB, and HBR on us.

Great news, we have not one, but two sources of Iron within our grasp.

IT- zzz

T4 1990

Warrior spots light blue border. Looks to be our last rival.

IT- The Celts are building the ToA.
Russians are building the Colossus.

T5 1950

We meet China. They are up Pottery, CB, and HBR as well. Celts and India both have Math in addition to the others. No deals even remotely possible right now.

IT- Istanbul-warrior-warrior

T6 1910

Not much. Settler is in place on the coast.

IT- Indians are building ToA

T7 1870

Bursa founded. I set it to warrior for now.

Persia, Russia, and India all learn writing. No deals possible.

Edrine-barracks-settler

T10 1750

Nothing new.

Summary

We managed to get our third city and find iron. We have some choices as in how we want to claim the iron, so I've provided a screen shot. I think our fourth city should claim one or both of the iron, and then our fifth could be gozpel's proposed site, if it's still available.

 What are our workers up to north off Edrine?

We make contact with Celts. They have yet to have discovered Alphabet/

I get Iron Working from Brennus for Alphabet and 56g.

I always enjoy good news. The next few techs will be tough with no two for one possibilities.

I will try and do a dot map up when I get home

I never said we should move the city AWAY from the coast, just 1 NW, still on a river and it would have a fish in its radius after expansion as well. But it would have a cultural fight with that green city I guess and we don't need to make our neighbours feel cramped this early. :)

But it would have a cultural fight with that green city I guess and we don't need to make our neighbours feel cramped this early.

That was exactly how I picked that spot. With just 5 cities we will most likely lose any cultural conflict. That is also why I wanted to do the dot map - to plan to maximum territory with low culture conflict.

I moved the workers there to start a road towards our next city site. Looking back, I probably should have just had them start mining the incense hill.

Yellow dot is the first priority. We really need a natural iron source.
Red dot is the second priority.

Our key techs are burial and math.
We really want those ancient cavalry.
I am worried the AI might sneak a city in the gray area if we wait to long to build some temples.

Is the red dot on a river? If not I would advice to move it 1 E and we will have both the spices and the goldhill within the radius after expansion. With out limited commerce I think goldsources are vital.

Since red dot is our last city, we can start to build culture as soon it's founded and there a quite a few chops to be done there to help.

Take a look at the above to pictures. Look how close Gordium and Yakutsk are. I am worried we could lose the silks if we don't place them in the first ring.

1750 BC (0)
We don't have the cash yet to pull a two-fer and buying any of the tech we can would put us in a twenty turn hole. Will monitor for any cahnce that we can pick sometihing up. Change the warrior builds to archers to give us some bombard. I now about cheap sword upgrades but a few archer can make the difference on defense. Then we can pick up a few spears and start back on warriors for the chep upgrades.
(I) We get booted by the Celts and the Persians start the Colossus.

1725 BC (1)
Bring workers back to mine incense hill, we need a lot more shields if the AI isn't going to beat us to our city sites.
(I)

1700 BC (2)
Ok, India gets 8gpt and 57g for Writing. China gets writing and 6 g for HBR and CB. Bursa swapped to a temple.
(I)Get booted by the Celts again.

1675 BC (3)
Mine due in 4.
(I)Get booted by China, Celts ask us to leave. Istanbul archer->archer. Celts start the Oracle and Colossus and finish the Pyramids. Russians and Chinese go for the Temple of Artemis. Sils taken by the city of Tyre.

1650 BC (4)
Not much. Trying to improve settler speed.
(I) Get booted out the other side by Celts. Persians start the Oracle. Indians ToA and Colossus

1625 BC (5)
Not much
(I)More of the same.

1600 BC (6)
Pretty boring.
(I)Nada/

1575 BC (7)
Mine comes in dropping settler from 7 down to three.
(I) Istanbul Archer->Archer. Crap! The Persians put Sardis in a place killing any chance of the silks until both cities are removed. We will have to go for the iron asap.

1550 BC (8)
Nada.
(I)No suprises.

1525 BC (9)
Workers move to build road to iron city.
(I)Edrine settler->spear.

1500 BC (10)
Settler on the way. Istanbul can swap to settler as soon as archer for Bursa is finished.

I'm blind, I'm blind -> (running around in circles) I can't see the screenshot! :scan:

A screenie would be nice with this kind of advertisement.

I will check out the save and probably need some guidance :)

I won't play until tomorrow anyways, so I check in here before then,

OUCH - sounds like I need to figure out another choice for city five.

I am totally lost by the above. Is this a reference to my post above, or to Meldor's post?

Dear Lee, I wouldn't do that to you :)

Of course I meant meldor's post. (Is there an illogical rule that I have to mention what post I mention?) My post is hrs after meldor's post and the news of taken spots just astounded me. I beg of forgiveness if my intentions wasn't clear.

Right now I understand we still need another city after the obvious Iron-city.

Is the site SSE of Const. a worthy choice then? For now?

We need 5 cities and up and going.

Plainly speaking, we did a poor choice by choosing Edrine before silk-spot. Always build AGAINST the AI, as they do that to you. If we had picked the (my chosen) spot for the second city, the rest would've been easy to take.

We need 5 cities and we can always abandon them/replacing them later for better purposes.

I agree to your former statement on the dotmap, because the AI settle aggressively, and understand we could've lost the spices with the spot I suggested. Now we know.

I don't want a stupid city holding a resource or lux, we need a city near the palace and the only way we can settle is by the coast SE.
