LK75 - Deity, world map, civ = TBD

Well is just got home from and have an audit first thing in the morning so bed early for me tonight.

Will begin tomorrow and post as much as I can finish. I am away for the rest of the weekend.

Hotrod

650 AD (0): Finally I can get started. First orde of buisness see whats what in our towns. Tough task but I will have a shot. Rush a few boarder town temples just to relieve some culture pressure from Shongahi. Boy are the people in Thebes angry. Ngome changed to a bank. There is no excess food so can't see the reason for a duct. Change Ulundi to a bank as well. It looks like fighting will be somewhat light so take the time now to push some buildings and regroup existing units to form up vs. Songhai. Build new Greek embassy, small with 4 hops and 1 archer. Well we can buy military tradition for all our gold but we have traded ALL our salt. NO trades for now except for a few map bucks. Hardly seems worth it.

660 AD (1): Babs are making a move toward Heliopolis. Hopefully we will take it out this turn. Mpondo builds a duct, starts a market. Ulmofozo gets settle (not sure why), starts market. Ivoria builds a temple starts treb. Same for New Umtata. Kill a musket and a lone spear and Heliopolis is razed. There is a lone Egyptian city on our land mass but its it behing the Songhai lines. No ROP so we can try to push through and see if he lets us pass or wait and take them on sooner rather than later but I fear we really need muskets and cavs for that battle. [dance] Didn't see it before but we have salt now. Just hooked up. Our first crusader. Pushing some units on toward the last Egypt city but will see if the red guys let us through. Thebes is now starving. Swap a few knights to muskets, we will need them to fight the Songhai cavs.

IBNT: Greece joins India vs. Australia, France and India have a MPP (Nationalism) France declares on Australia. Songhai will not let us pass and we do not want to fight yet. He is Industrial.

670 AD (2): A few muskets complete. Building a courthouse in Isandhlwana, with 4 corrupt shields I think it is worth. Well a 2fr finally, I pay a whole lot for MT but it think it is a must have given that we are looking to be facing more rifles than muskets in The West. Jaonie gets 1200 gold and 135gpt for military tradition. MT, 250 gold and 24 gpt to Babylon for Physics. Not sure why but it feels like I sold my soul for some cavs. I really see no reason to continue the war with Egpyt but do we really want garbage cities. Well it is domination after all and they are remote islands. We can get 4 towns for peace. I take all 4 and we can dispose of them if we want. Couldn't see leaving something on the table and continueing the war at this point is pointless. We get 4 garbage Egypt towns for peace.

INBT: Mongols and India sign MPP.

680 AD (3): New Ulundi builds a market starts a cav. New Bapedi a market starts a cav. Not much, building a few cavs. New muskets moving slowly to the front. Pushing a couple settlers north. Russia gets shakes.

INBT: Soo much for a phony Aztec war they have just hired the Persians and Venezuela. The Persians add an embargo with the Iroquios against us. Great now the Persians drag Brazil into this.

690 AD (4): We get our first cavs off the line. Songhai complete newtons. Not much else to speak of. Begining to consolidate workers to see what needs to be done. Tons of workers for when rails come on but not much else for them to do now.

Thoughts: Well accepting crappy nowhere towns for peace may have been a mistake. I think we needed to make peace because all our military options were exhausted but the cities really aren't value added. Question: gift them away, abandon them keep them. They really are all over and not very good.

Also, war with the Persians and the entire SA continent isn't good. Having flash backs to BamBams famous dogpile. Anyway, what is the goal at this point. Our economy is okay with +50gpt and we are okay in tech but the front runners are still way ahead and industrial. We can't fight the Songhai until we have adequate cavs and that is not for a while.

INBT: Soo much for a phony Aztec war they have just hired the Persians and Venezuela. The Persians add an embargo with the Iroquios against us. Great now the Persians drag Brazil into this.
This is why I hate not caving to demands. This is the second war with Persia so it goes for at least 10 turns. The cost to end all this nonsense will be a lot more then the money the Aztecs wanted. Not to mention the loss of several potential trading partners.

I have never forgotten Babylon vs. the world.

I would have thought we were large enough not to tempt too many of the others.

How big is Persia? Do they stand a chance against India if we bring them in? We really need to generate a dogpile on India or they are going to be huge!

You beat me to the punch. I was planning a bump if nothing in 48 hours...

INBT: Russia joins Venzuela in a war vs Australia. Songhai make peace
with Australia. We lose trading with Greece thanks to Persia. Now
Persia brings the Iroquios into the war against us. This is getting
silly. All over a few gold we told the Aztecs to take a hike for.

700 AD (5): Size wise Persia is not very large. They have Babylon in
the way. We are on good terms with Babs but I don't want to tie us up
again for a phony war. I just hope they have finished spending all
there money and will not drag the Songhai into a war until we are
ready. We are NOT ready. We can afford a partner but I don't think we
want to be tied down for that long so I wait. Sell Physics to china
for 9gpt and 30 gold. It will help our economy and maybe they will
pickup ToG or Metallurgy so we can trade. Right now we are stuck.
Finish couple cavs and have 4 settlers available but no real spots
until we are ready for war in the West. Sending troups to the NW and
trying to consolidate workers as best I can.

INBT: Songhai wants our map and 40 gold for his WM. I decline.

710 AD (6): Hlobane builds a new cav starts another. New Intombe builds
a settler starts a cannon. No new trades. We have idle units but
don't think taking the war to Persia is worth it and we aren't ready to
take on rifles in Songhai towns.

INBT: Babylon joins India vs. Australia. Well the alliance fun
continues, Persia gets the Americans to declare on us and we lose our
dye source. Now Russia joins the fun too. This is really getting
silly.

720 AD (7): Isandhlwana builds a courthouse starts on Military Academy.
Moving cavs to the front. Moving Knights to the boarder towns.

UPDATE: Because of the phony Aztec war we are now at "War" with
Venezuela, Brazil, America, Iroquois, Aztecs, Persians and the
Russians.

Do we really want an ally that will tie us down for 20 turns?

Comments?

We lose trading with Greece thanks to Persia.
Where we shipping anything to Greece? I really hope not, or our rep is destroyed!

=================================

UPDATE: Because of the phony Aztec war we are now at "War" with Venezuela, Brazil, America, Iroquois, Aztecs, Persians and the Russians.

Do we really want an ally that will tie us down for 20 turns?
Defiance is killing us big time. Some of these wars WON'T stay phony. We had better be stacking up the troops near Thebes. Persia and Russia will show up at our borders. If Babylon joins the dog pile we have major problems.

I think I know what to do with those remote Egypt cities. Give them away to get peace with some of the Americas. The lost of dyes really hurts us.

=================================

Without knowing the war situation for the rest of the world I can't really comment on alliances. After all if Russia were fighting France we would probably never know Russia was around.

720 AD (7): Isandhlwana builds a courthouse starts on Military Academy. Moving cavs to the front. Moving Knights to the boarder towns. Dial up our good "friends" the Aztecs who started this mess and see what they want for peace. How nice they will take the worthless Egypt towns off our hands. We give away El-Ashmunein, Mendes, and Athribis. France had silks but we can't afford them. No tech deals. Are we at the point of needing libraries and self research??

INBT: Babs ask us to leave and we automatically comply. Sign an ROP with him and he give us 25 gold. I want the option of taking the war to the Persians. We have a few idle armies and crusaders hanging around waiting for something to happen. Perhaps a quick pointy stick will help our tech situation as well.

730 AD (8): Not sure why, perhaps war happines is over and Ulundi riots and I scroll to fix a few more. Up lux to 10%. Thebes a worker finally and Bepedi a new settler, starts a cav. Well our economy can use the boost and I don't see Egypt hanging around for too long so I sell her MT for 26gpt and 40 gold. Moving units to Thebes for now, can't get into Babs territory.

INBT: India buys Persia into the war vs Australia. Babs buy Greece in vs. Egypt. Babs and Egypt make peace. Persia gets Aztecs to sign and Embargo.

740 AD (9): Zimbabwe builds a cav starts another. Ulundia bank starts a musket. Still unable to make any tech trades and we are unable to get any one to the peace table.

INBT: Iroquios declare on Australia. As do America.

750 AD (10): Again not a whole lot to do. Feel like I am missing something. There are a few more cavs coming online in the next ten turs. Maybe then we will be able to hit the Songhai for a quick hit and run. We are ready for any attacks in the north but I haven't seen any Hostile units. A few new civs, China and Egpyt just picked up ToG but not Magnetism. But sadly we can't afford to buy.

Nothing much going on just trying to get a force ready to stave off any attacks and possibly begin to think about hitting the Songhai.

just leave some fun for me...
Well what is your definition of "fun".

============================================

ARGGG The Babylonians have a knight fortified by Eridu that I can't get past. I would like to bring the war to the AIs, but I have no way to get that knight to move. At this point we can't afford to simply have builder turns. We need to keep the war mode going somehow.

750 AD
I cancel 13 workers wasting there time mining in the corrupt city zone.

I pick up $63 from our world map and I improved our map knowledge during the process.

I ship backwards Argentina Education for $10/turn and $9. Not a great deal, but we could use the cash.

I ship France $43/turn to get Silks. I hate to help a tech leader, but we have no other source for a fifth luxury.

None of the other AIs at war will talk, so no new peace treaties.
(IT) Australia and France sign a peace treaty.
The cascading war havoc continues as Russia and China ally against us. We lost our Gems supply! :wallbash:

760 AD
War happiness has avoided riots in our cities, but I don't know how long it will last.

I pick up $56 from our world map.

I am unable to end any of these annoying phony wars. I am getting really worried that Babylon will get dragged in against us, or even worse that cash rich India joins the party.
(IT) All the Babylon troops just went on the move. I wonder whom Babylon is going to target.

770 AD
I sign peace with Venezuela and get their updated wm. Each peace treaty should help lower the cost of the next one. I get the same deal with Brazil.

I give Persia Tanis and $60 and end that war.

I gain $61 from our maps.

Our work crews continue to leave the Songhai borders.

780 AD
I end another phony war and get wm and $1 from the Iroquois for peace.

I give in and buy the Indian wm for $110. After all the selling I am ahead by $17 and $7/turn. Of course, $1/turn of that won't last long.
(IT) Russia and Greece trade embargo us. That ends getting any value from our horses with Russia. This is really getting annoying. Brazil and Russia do the same thing, but who cares?

790 AD
I only made $47 from map trading. Of course that still almost doubles our income this turn.

Still no luck in ending the Russian war...
(IT) Well this just sucks - Persia and America trade embargo us. I was hoping to get our dyes source back.
Greece and Australia sign a peace treaty.
Songhai and Persia ally vs. Australia.

800 AD
I sign peace with America and he gives us $53, $4/turn and wm.
I ship Russia $80 for peace and end another threat of units showing up at Thebes. What really sucks is Russia still needs horses, but there is an active Embargo.

Map trading nets us $84.

The potential problems in Eurasia are solved. I finally don't feel like a Thebes surprise could happen at any moment. With only China left I finally I can start the next war with the Songhai.

I grab 5 Songhai workers near the border with obsolete units.

Kukiya is razed to the ground at the cost of 1 cavalry gaining us $0 and 5 workers.

Avaris is razed to the ground at no cost gaining us $0 and 1 worker.

Diara cost us 3 cavalry so it will survive this turn with an injured musket showing.

Summary:
We are still feeling the effects of the Aztec defiance and phony war. I wanted to start the fighting at 750AD with the Songhai, but didn't feel safe knowing Russia units could be one turn away. With our unit strength I still wonder if the war was premature.

Embargoes are killing us as we can't get dyes, or send horses to Russia and the Aztecs.

I started our first couple of libraries. I feel we need to shift to self-research soon. We need to get more cash freed up before this is viable.

We are still hurting for military as many of our towns still have warriors for defense.

Our workers are building roads on all mountains / hills as the head back towards the capitol. I hope we manage to have our coal source with roads ahead of time.

Welcome aboard. Since the official open slot was right behind me you get to start fighting right now. The current goal is to cripple the Songhai with razing most of their cities. The Zulu need a 3rd self-owned luxury, the Songhai gems!

You have 6 settlers available to replace the razed cities with once the front is stable.

LK75-800AD, the age of cavalry. Goal, clear Africa of foreigners. Payment, free choice of five gems of the Songhai diamond fields.

I do not know why we think so badly about the Aztec war, it got us out of a 87 gpt payment quite a lot of turns early, so it was not just a silly defiance thing. Of course it almost got out of control with Russia/Persia, but I still think it was the right decision to make, given what was known at the time. The trade embargoes will eat up most of the benefit though. They seem to be more common now in 1.22.

Given I go after LKendter, I give our cities only a cursory glance, more to familiarize myself with them, rather than in any hopes of finding unexpected MM opportunities.

Note to self, Start building settlers/workers out of Zimbabwe and Bapedi after they complete their Banks.
Note 2 to self, Remember the prebuild in Islan…, it is probably a bad thing to build rushables from scratch in a game heavy with warfare.

I rush a worker out of Thebes instead of starving them. I see no reason to starve the citizens when we can pay 60 gold for a worker.
I partial rush the bank in Zimbabwe by way of Colloseum. I realize belatedly that it would have been more efficient to rush in one of the food rich cities.

We are a bit weak on the frontline, and I spot a border city defended by an imp. This is a bit weak in the age of cavalry. I find five pikemen in New Umtata, so I start to shift them around a bit. Four of them had moved this turn, so I could shift only one.

IBT: A pirate sinks our galley. A cavalry strikes at our sacrifical warrior, and the proud old regiment is no more.

810AD Diara who last turn was defended by a musket now has a rifleman instead. I use the army to destroy the city, saving our cavalry for better odds. Four workers are netted. I lose a cavalry taking out the Songhai cavalry. I lose an elite knight, and gets severely wounded with another knight taking out the other visible Songhai cavalry.
Lots of movement and positioning. Things will be slow against the riflemen, as I am a bit conservative. We have a long way to advance before we can grab the gems. I move workers corewards as they complete their roading projects, as I want them in our core the moment we get rails.

Hammurabi is up Theory, but lack Magnetism, India owns 20K gold, so I can guess who is the tech leader. No great chance of a trade though, as Ivory and 60 gpt still is insulting to any sellers of Magnetism. In six turns we will have our gold back, and we might still be able to swing a twofer then. For now, it is impossible without converting half our population into taxmen.

IBT: Aztecs and India sign against Australia, Bad news, Songhai manage to sign India in a trade embargo against us. Cavalry storm out of the desert, and we lose lightly defended Pi-Ramses. Losses are up to imp, cavalry, knight and 2 pikes, and all we have defeated are one of the knight-equivalents. Given we build mostly banks, this was not a very good IBT for us.

820AD 69 gpt/169 gold and Ivory barely makes it doubtful for Magnetism. Brazil has 127 gold, and I sell them Banking, hoping they will get even more gold to pay for our obsolete techs. I lose one cavalry destroying the defenders in Kangaba. I am tempted to snag it just to get a cultural border and stop the hordes of Songhai, but I raze it, when I realize the two pikemen destroyed were the defenders to be. I will now spend the next turns trying to gas the Songhai war machine. I will likely lose the cavalry used in grabbing the site, but such is the price to pay when overextending oneself.
I spend some of the gold our map sales have netted to rush a couple of frontline cannon. Not that they are much help against cavalry, but we lack barracks for rushing defenders.

This will hopefully be the last turn with loads of exposed troops, but exposing troops is inherent when you raze instead of capture. Hopefully the next player will be able to raise a SoD of Muskets so we can have real frontline settlers so we can get a better cultural border.

IBT: What is it with all these embargoes ?? Egypt sign one against us.
It is bloody, and we lose three cavalry and one crusader against two losses for the Songhai, and at that we were lucky. China who is at war against us, sign a trade embargo.

Reinforcements this turn is a single musketman in our core, and a couple of cannon at the front.

Furs deal run out, and we have no obsolete techs to trade for the furs, so I expect this to be expensive.

830AD Snag two slaves from a Songhai settler pair. That’s good, as long as he is building settlers, he lose pop, and he does not build cavalry. A pair of Impis that survived, pillage an iron for Songhai. Hope it hurts. I kill three of the visible cavs, and then spread out my cavalry while waiting for the armies to heal, and the Songhai troops to expose themselves in a way that do not necessitate me to expose myself in response.
I rush a frontline Barracks this turn, to facilitate said healing. Only exposed troop this turn is our elite horse who stuck his snout out while dispatching a redlined cavalry.

Russia is up to 8K gold, so I guess they have researched another tech and sold to India. Sell Printing Press to Greece for some pocket change. ( 11 gold + 5 gpt. ) Renewing the Furs costs us Ivory and 5 gpt.

Income is up to 101 gpt, but we still cannot even get close to buying Magnetism. Too bad.

IBT: A pirate tries to sink a Songhai galleon outside our southern coast. Unfortunately it does not succeed. We get very lucky when I had missed a cavalry, and it attacks a backline city defended by an impi. Our valiant Impi will be rewarded by a congressional medal of honor. Also honourable mention to the Crusader who beats off another cavalry. Otherwise there are lots of ships travelling south along our coast, and it may be that we need to sign peace with Songhai real soon now.
Songhai also manages to recapture four slaves, however they keep them for us to recapture.

840AD Hopefully things will start to turn now, that I can start to counterattack, and perhaps advance our borders a bit. Zimbabwe 2 is built to secure rubber from the Jungles.
Kill off two cavalry and a Dyina.

Gwandu is the only visible source of horses for Songhai, and any long term plans should have that foremost in sight, and as soon as our armies are healed, I will start the advance. Having a fit army on top, should allow our cavalry to approach.

I also am not certain what would happen to size 1 Pi-Ramses if we recapture, as it has no culture, and the citizen is not ours.

I get five gold and a worker for peace with China. Brazil has a little more money, so I sell them Chemistry for 13 gpt.

Madagaskar is defended by warriors, so I suspect the Songhai fleet is headed here. Make peace, or make ships to transport military here. First drop may happen as fast as in two turns, and we do not even own a barracks on it. Since we do not own Magnetism, I cannot build a warship to sink the lone caravel that is the Songhai vanguard. We will be able to speak with the Songhai next turn, so I suspect we will have to go to peace at that time, somewhat short of being able to grab the gems. I do not long consider rushing two regular cavalry.

Something has increased our unhappiness, but I do not know what it is. All the unhappy people claim it is only crowded. We still have four luxes
135gpt and 224 gold is still only doubtful for magnetism. Magnetism/ToG better be the last techs we buy, as prices seem to be really high here.

IBT: An amazing amount of move 1 troops well in over our borders, but no counters. I have no idea how to deal with this. I will likely try to regain Pi-Ramses, and then sign peace, so we can grow some military before we go to war again.
Apparently I missed New Ulundi when I MMed, and I get an embarrassing riot in my hand over turn.

850AD We have 39 Songhai troops visible. In one turn, an invisible caravel will drop an unknown number of troops on Madagaskar, defended by three warriors and an imp.

I have left movement on troops at the frontline. This is in case you want to war for one more turn with the Songhai. I have also left movement on our two armies. You may even want to do this, as we could possibly raze the Songhai horse city if we move all troops into position. You should be able to gather the two armies, and some six cavalry for striking at the Songhai horse city if you elect to not take peace this turn. Peace is likely to get more expensive next turn, as the Songhai will have much more troops in our territory by then.

We can get enough of a rebate with a peace deal so we can afford to buy Magnetism from the Songhai. Trade it to Abe and/or Hammurabi for ToG, and we can start to save up for a steal of Steam.

Sorry for not getting any further, I had problems blunting the Songhai counter, and on more than one occasion I was plain lucky.

Save: Here

Grimjack.
