Lonely Hearts Club, BtS Edition, Chapter XXIII : Catherine

I still got Visual C++ runtime error while trying to load the file.
Anyway, it seems to be a broader problem - only my two last games load

Someone got such a case with 3.17 + Solver?

I suggest reinstalling CIV...

After some ping pong I think having located the error :

* With Solver installed as overwriting BtS sources and using the 50 Civ DLL only my two latest saves work

* With Solver uninstalled and only official patch on, all my saves work except the latest two :crazyeye:

I think I'll have handle both situations, at least for a while

Someone can tell me if this may be the 50 Civ DLL problem ?

Emperor from monarch save, Normal speed, checkpoint 4
Spoiler :
Well, this game was quite dull....

In fact i could resume the game to 2 wonders: GLH and the Mids. It was the only wonders I built ( besides the very late TGD and the internet )and it was more than enough ( pls, do not do this in a non isolated game or you probably will be eaten alive ;) ). This allowed me to super REX and to make a stable SE/TRE economy, that allowed me to buble Astro with some and to win the Lib race. The trade routes gave me a Huge profit when I OBed with most civs ( except with genghis and Izzy, that banged heads until the end of the game ... when using the GLH you should avoid OBing with possible war targets ) and after that the game was technically over in terms of tech supremacy.

Besides making a DP with Cyrus ( middle of the pack, generally loved dude ), I tried to be equidistant of the outer world, besides some help to GK in the war vs Izzy ( the only AI pissed enough with me to be a landing threat ... not that I could not cope it, but I'm a fan of using AI as proxies for my wars in higher levels ). The AP was budhist ( Izzy religion ( surprise, surprise ) ) and controled by Izzy , in spite of built by Mao. It scared me some times with votes to war Cyrus ( not passed ) , but most of the times it asked for restitution of Spanish cities in the hands of GK, hence being a non factor.

Well, game continued to my usual space path... Pacal and pericles both geared to Culture, but pacal mispositioning of the Hits wonders ( no strong 3rd city ) combined with pericles bad specialist assignement ( I could hear prophets popping like mad men in Greece ), made it a non threat. Cyrus geared to space, but my superior tech planning made of it also a non threat. To add Izzy, of all the AI probably the less loved ,decided to make the UN, making me the UN sec almost automatically ( everyone voted for me except Izzy ... unfortunately only GK voted for me in UN win vote ) , so no AI could win by UN. To resume, the game was in the bag... so much in the bag that I ( remember kids, do not play Civ until 4 AM.... sleepy players don't think too well ) made some huge blunders in the SS parts queue orders that costed me atleast 10 turns and i didn't suffered much from it .....

Well, it the end, just to spice things up, Pacal decided to join GK in war vs Izzy and I saw some nuke fireworks. Nothing that could stop me....
Spoiler :

Well, my commnts to this game is that the fact of all the AI were pretty much balanced ( maybe a feect of all the AI having archery? ), joined to the fact that I grabbed 2 of the most important early wonders, made this game extremely easy...... The fact that I even leaded in score in the last half of the game in Emperor ( first time I can grab it , especially without wars ) shows how much I was pwning the game. Huge gamble to make, but highly profitable if you can pull it ( that or I need to pull up a level ;) )...Well, a cre/imp AI surely fits a mids/GLH ( read: SE TRE economy ) strat in extremely powerful way: lots of cities, with lots of cheap libs ( read lots of scientists ) nad without having to safrifice the slider so much..... The only hindrance in here was the lack of :) resources... with a silver or a fur, this would had blowed things away ;)

Save below is from 1 turn before victory

@Around 1750, Monarch, Checkpoint 3.156 (?)
Small status

Spoiler :

Game looking rather up.
Have a slight tech edge on opposition, 1st in GNP, MfG & Size
Pleased with most dangerous ones
Happy to see GK doing terror on the main continent and keeping my most dangerous opponents busy :D
Key starter in this game methinks : Early Pyramids and GSci spawn in Moscow
Other thing - having placed second city far south on the river grassland spot.
Thinking space for this game.

I'll report more once I'm at the real, final, checkpoint.
Promise screenies for those among you lurking your screen at work and wishing to be already in a few hours @home to get back to the real business ;)

Ricardo - playing @4 AM ? Are you on holidays ?

Basically like me then. Whoa, all those people on holidays make me sick while I'm still working (or making it seem like :))

Finally finished :D

Spoiler :

Monarch, Space Win, 1989 AD
Not a glorious victory I must admit, but still a funny game.

I never ever ever ever built a single cossack - got Military Tradition from the Internet

Key moments:
- early Pyramids
- early Great Library
- getting Pleased all the time with Great Khan
- maintaining a general friendly attitude with almost everyone (except Mao who DoW'ed me twice, to no effect other than losing his Frigate/Galleon fleet to my destroyers...)

Snapshot:

Eto bcuo! Cnacuda.
(writing russian with no cyrrillic characters brings weird results :crazyeye: - meant to write "Eto vssio. Spassiba.")

It may be irrelevant at this point as it was a while since you posted this. But, I had a similar problem after installing the official and unofficial patches. I couldn't load up any of the scenarios (tested both NC and LHC). But I could start a new game (from play now or custom game) and start an old save.

I don't know which solution that solved the problem but I did reinstall Solvers patch without using the installer (IE manually putting the files in the correct location.) As it is the same files in the same place it seems unlikely that was the solution. The other thing I did was reinstall the Blue Marble mod. Now, I don't know if you have this mod or not, it shouldn't affect this in any way. Now, I did the mistake of not testing to see if it worked between those two fixes but one or the other made everything allright. But it may be the 50 dll that comes with the installer and I guess I skipped that part by doing a manual install. But then, my old saves worked...

Thanks dubrown for your valuable reply - I thought I was alone having the problem.

Since then, I have reinstalled Solver without the 50 civ dll and it works fine.
Except that I can't load two games started with 'faulty' dll. Anyway, the problem is kinda fixed ;)
