Long Winded Changes (LWC) Mod

Just tried this mod, and have just two comments. I guess they probably have been answered, but I won´t read through all the 22 pages. :)

* The tech tree lines are screwed up

* The shrine has no icon in the build queue

And one comment. I don´t think it was a cery good idea making oasis and bananas strategic resources, since they now show up as tradable and on the trade screen. This clutters an already cluttered screen.

I have had no problems with the mod under 1.22 (yet...).

does anyone know where plutark is?!?!

Hey...i have been gone a while. (too long)

is the LWC mod still in progress?

Guess not since Plutarck vanished.

I am not using this mod with 1.21 until Plutarck tells me it won't CRASH.

So what's the deal, Plutarck??

Zouave : I'm still not having any crash problems and I've been using the mod since day one. Sorry I didn't post earlier. I do get a crash message after I close the game but that happens a lot anyways with or without the mod.

A lot of the graphics problems are a result of the new patch taking editing options out. A lot of other mods are having the same problem. However, graphics problems like tech tree lines do not take away from the playability of this mod. If you want to know if it is connected, click ont eh tech you really want and the advisor will indicate the path needed.

Plutack has been AWOL on this site and the "other" site.

AWOL??

Sry....but thats a new one to me:p

I will give the latest LWC mod another try.

I had crashing problems with my own mod (posted on this forum somewhere) by just renaming some units, helicopters into crossbowmen, for instance. Each new unit required a new folder in the Art/Units folder, plus sound and art files, plus some tinkering with the .ini file. Hardly convenient, and why the Editor is not all that good.

I'll agree that the editor is no good at all for sure.
I did a few minor tweaks of the latest LWC mod (corruption etc.)
So far no problems. :)

For whatever reason, I have had NO crashes with the LWC, recently reinstalled, and I am well into the 17th century. Looks good.

And we wait for a better Editor - much better.

OK, here's the final conclusion on the most recent LWC.

NO permanent CRASHES. I of course have the Art/Units folders all extant and with the correct art, sound, and .ini files.

Yes, for some reason on rare occasions the game crashed but I was able to go right to autosave and restart it with no problems.

The LWC as is needs a little work:

I've slowed down the tech development a bit.

I've made sure all units are upgradeable to standard units, not UU's. More units gives us more options if a war breaks out; some units do not last long - but in a major war having the advantage could make all the difference.

I will never use nukes without a Quick Response option to a First Strike - too unrealistic. Manhattan Project is now an Internet commerce-producing wonder. So if you like Big Explosions, edit it yourself.

Therefore, the nukes units have been turned itnto a "horse cannon" unit with a MP of 2, and a MOW UU for the English that is not in the original LWC; Longbowmen remain their Golden Age starting UU.

A few other minor tweaks, including with resource appearance rates.

Works for me. And a lot more historic and realistic than what Firaxis slapped together.

I'm not sure if crossbowmen should be as offensive-oriented as they are, and naval bombardment of improvements may come too early. Wooden ships with cannon would in reality be hard-pressed to destroy improvements. If you have a problem with this edit, edit.

Here's what I did if anyone wants to get an idea of what I consider realistic and more playable.

Hello, I have been away from Civ for a bit and am currently running ERP4 w/ ptch 1.18. I went to Firaxis site and see they have v 1.29 for downloading. Will the Zuave ERP-5 go w/ 1.29? Any feedback? Also last night I tried to load ERP5 which I got from the start of this thread (Plutarc's). It appears on the scenario's menu but when I try to load it comes back w/ "version 3.08 no longer valid" Any thoughts??? Does Zuaves ERP5 solve this??? Help! Must...play...Civ... strength fading...:crazyeye:

:( well I have spent the last couple o evenings trying to get my newly loaded Civ3v1.29 to run w/ ERP's 4-5or 6 to no avail!
Anybody out there??? Anyone still reading and responding??? The problem is always w/ the text for the Coastal gun empl's.

Is this thread dead? Will any of this work w/ v1.29????? HELP!

Hey man, I am not running LWC I am part of The Balancer Mod Team. All mods must be converted to the new patch. Good chance the author of this mod is beta testing for Firaxis like most of the mod makers in the civ community :). LWC author has not responded to posts in some time.
We are working on The Balancer mod trying to get it ready for the PTW expansion pack. We will have a version ready for testing in a short time. Elucidus is on a break right now, but says he is going to work on mod during this time. Not trying to take you away from using this mod, but I am pointing you toward a good mod that will work with latest patch as well as PTW XP. Check our Forums for the latest information regarding our mod.

Thanks for the info, I will look for your Mod soon! Just cant play Civ w/o a good mod.

I feel the same way the standard game just is not quite right. Once a decent mod is used instead you have much more fun. I am sure the LWC author will update his mod or is now who knows. :) Its a good mod just had a few crashes when I tried it. :crazyeye:

You mean me??

The reason I tried the LWC mod was to make use of the additional units Plutarck HACKED into the game - something I didn't have the time to figure out and do.

I have just updated my own mod using the new 1.29 editor that allows you to add new stuff (without the game crashing, I assume).

Just read the entire thread, if interested. It is loaded with new stuff. As always, feel free to tweak it and change whatever you want. It's as historical (while playable) as can be in this system.

Bottom line: the more options and choices we have the more interesting it is. Some units don't last very long before they become obsolescent - but in that time you can really kick tail if you plan ahead (as I did with Shock Troops, beating my rival before he could get tanks going).

I still hate the easy way people use nukes in this game, but I added the MP in anyway after first replacing it with the Internet.

Thanks fo the response. I also really like the units in LWC, ie Steel warship, Shock troops, etc. I spent the weekend editing and playing the DYP (Double your pleasure) mod, and yes it was very time consuming adding all the units though when done...(5hrs. later!) I was VERY pleased! Very playable mod. As to LWC I will be trying your ERP5/v1.29 version later today is it the download I see above on this page or another locale? I also agree on Nukes. Over used and generally no fun:( I did really enjoy the effect of the added units (Bolth mods) though it was tedious creating the files and loading. Anyhow I will let ya know how it goes w/ u'r erp version, Thanks! :goodjob:
