Longest time you played civ at once!

Let's see...I played once from 8:30 AM (Right when my wife went to work) and played until 3:00 AM so I guess about 19 hours. My wife came home around 6:00 pm and we ate dinner, but that was it. She was none to happy with me.

Ah board games.... My friends and I used to have Axis and Allies marathons during weekend sleepovers. Those were the best! I loved board games, still do...just no one to play them with. My wife will play Trivial Pursuit every once in awhile.

At my last job I was able to play when production wasn't going on. As I was the shift lead and had two computers at my desk (no biggie, we all did) I was able to play on one and work on another.

Half hour drive home, send the wife to work, kids to school, and play another 6 or so hours, so my longest (in a day, not contiguous) is about 14 to 16 hours, I'm guessing.

Now I don't play near that long, maybe if I'm lucky 3 hours at a stretch.

Thirty-some hours, including a couple quick breaks for meals (though I mostly ate by the computer) and one for a shower (no, I didn't shower by the computer). :)

One Thanksgiving break, my computer was broken...so I drove to school and played game through. I was there from eleven am to five or six pm. :) The lab assistant was a friend of mine, and he was playing some MMORPG all day.

I think my longest continuous was from around 11:00 AM to about 3:00 AM, right after I bought conquests (after installing my friend's CIV GE). It was my first Civ game. I played as Persia on Warlord and got my a$$ kicked by Ottomans after awhile. I don't think I built a library till I was in the Middle Ages! Fun game though, I remember seeing Frigates and thinking "How do you get THOSE boats?!"

Nowadays though, I usually only play about 30-60 minutes per session... I think the girlfriend had a lot to do with that! (Still can't convince her to try a 2 player game...!)

I used to just tell my wife "Woman, i'm going to play if I want to! Go get me a pot-pie. Then go scrub some floors!" Then, after I wake up with a black eye and bloody nose, I might get to play for a little bit. ;)

Actually, I've been so busy lately that if I do get to play for more than a couple of hours, it's rare.

Man don't start me on the Risk! And definitely don't mention Civ the board game!
I've had very long sessions of Risk II (the PC game). But then I discovered Civ. :)

There was a board game based on Sid Meier's Civ , but to any board gamer over 30, "Board-game Civ" refers to Avalon Hill's version. Actually, Avalon Hill probably had the trademark first, this is why you see Sid's name on all his Civ games, I assume, to differentiate it....

As for marathon Civ sessions, I used to play Civ I in college when I was at home for breaks. I could easily play 70 or 80 hours in a week if Real Life didn't get in the way. If only I could get paid to play Civ now, I think that would be my dream job....

At the risk of jacking this thread, I'd like to highlight another civ style board game which has been played ad nauseum by my friends and I: The Settler of Katan

Anyway, I haven't seen anyone beat my 3 day record yet :)

Nah, I only picked up civ after becoming unemployed
That's so odd, I did the same thing... I've had Civ3 for around 2-3 years but never got into it until I left my job a few months ago!

My longest run would be from around 8:30AM to 2:30PM, in that there would of been about an hour where I was away from the game but left it running (going back and forth). I think by the time you get from the start of a new game to the middle of the industrial ages, it becomes less interesting so it's less enticing to sit there playing any longer.

Woot! Settlers of Katan! The true diplomats game, where having the biggest army will only get you one point out of ten.

My college buddies and I played that. Tis awesome.

How long I play depends on if I remember to stop myself. My normal session, I catch myself after an hour. However, there have been times it went 6hours+ easily and when I finally did take a break, I'd realize "What, it's Thursday already?"

You should get together with a friend and resolve to play a whole epic game on a huge map in one sitting. Obviously you will never make it if you take pleasure in the game but this is true civ indulgience. You'll have to kip a few times but keep at it. You can get it done in a weekend. Get stocked up on the coffee, juice, donuts, pizza, music etc and go OWN THEM ALL! These sessions provide the best civ buzz.

Can't say exactly, but in a few occasion i've played for the whole weekend. Obviously there were some breaks from time to time (go to the toilet, eat, shower, roll a cig, sleep a little and so on)
