Anything based on CivII and CivIII, ie a non 3d Civilization-themed game.

I know of Freeciv, but i am not sure how it is going these days.
I also heard of Civ-Evo, but do not recall how it was at all (i probably dled it once but did not like it).

Any other open-source civ-clones there? :)

Quite good. Have given it a try recently myself (a real try, finally). Just as they described it on their site: it is polished Civ2.

Pros are:

1) Easier to handle, faster to play. Due to the latter it has a different feel than Civ2.

2) Nice late game / modern age. It lets you play up to 2300 AD, so you have time to use all those technologies and units. Nice late government types also.

3) Unit constructor. Although it is different from Alpha Centauri it still satisfies the same parts of your brain.

Cons are:

1) Not finished AI. Everyone falls into the two extremes: either diplomacy-able and friendly, or warmonger with whom you can't have a diplomacy session at all.

2) No nukes.

3) Random maps are outdated compared to nowadays Civ games. It is not possible to play Earth with predefined starting locations.

There's also FreeCol, I'm sure your heard of it though. Spared a few evenings playing it once. Playable, still was not enough to make me play through the full-length game twice.
