Hi,

I was looking for a forum for asking some (under)graduate math questions about e.g. abstract algebra, numbertheory, discrete math.

I found http://www.physicsforums.com/ which has a math section but as the name suggests it is a Physics forum in the first place. I prefer a dedicated math forum of course.

regards

Use that one, there are some serious math heads there, any equation will be handled easilly, up to PhD level in maths. It also happens to be very professional and well worth the effort. One or two Maths Tutors/PhD students knocking around in there too.

If it's a homework question try Calculus and beyond, if it's just an idea or a tricky maths problem they have specialist areas dedicated to Algebra and Calculus and Differentiation, some of the mathematicians there are scarily good. I mean out of my league by a mile.

Oh and they have a specialist area for number theory too. In fact they pretty much have an area for any type of maths.

Also there are specialist maths sites, but they are not as populous as this one, nor IMO as easy to use and get answers to questions from. And they tend to be geared towards higher level maths than undergrad, well some of them anyway.

Or you can just ask them here.

Physics Forums is the best. They rock there.

There's a couple of other ones I use for higher level stuff, but I am usually too frustrated to listen to some of those people (as soon as they say something like, "it is easy to verify that X has property Y" when it's no obvious at all).

But feel free to ask here. I'm sure between Pboily, nihilistic, myself, Perfection, and some of the other nonmath higher-science types will be able to tackle most problems.

Don't put me in that catagory. I can do basic calculus and boolean algebra, but that's about it.

Yea, you should ask here. There were quite a few people that helped me with my questions. :) Actually, now that i think about it, there's a high possibility i'll be making another thread with questions soon. :)

thanks guys,

in the future I'll post some questions here (just) to test you all ;)
