Looking for some multiplayer goodness

By far, the finest multiplayer gaming experiences I've had have been with the Battlefield series of games. I've played every game in the series save the last one (2142), loved them all. When my hard drive last crapped out I chose not to reinstall BF2, figuring I should give some other game a try. I chose Battlefront 2, the Star Wars game, and while it's not bad it's still inferior to its spiritual ancestor. I'll play a little more, to get my $20 worth of entertainment, but I'm already looking for a better experience.

Any suggestions? What Battlefieldish games are worth investing my time and money? What other worthwhile multiplayer experiences are currently available?

This request doesn't cover MMORPGs (although I'm tempted to spend my Best Buy gift card on the LOTR game...)

You can pick up Call of Duty & United Offensive (the expansion) together for a low cost. There are still LOTS of people playing it, UO is better since it adds sprinting and you can cook grenades before throwing them.

Half-Life series are pretty good plus there's lots of mods.

Far Cry is a great game but the multiplayer is declining but still worth picking up since at WalMart the DVD jewel case is less than $9 Canadian.

Runescape as a last resort, Maple Story as a semi-last resort, (Both are free MMORPGs, although NX cash in Maple costs money and Runescape has a $5 US fee for membership where almost all cool stuff is) Call of Duty 3 for Xbox360, maybe Call of Duty 2 for Xbox360. :p

I've also tired of bf1942/2 and chose not to bother with 2142. I'm playing Counterstrike Source again, which is good fun if you're able to find a decent server.

At this stage tho i'd wait till later this year for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. It's hyped to be the next big MP experience that you're looking for, it looks like the battlefield community will move onto this.

Playing CS:S zombi mod
ET Free: custom maps are a blast
FlyFF free mmo / much better then maple story

IMO the UT kind of players will move on to Quake Wars. BF players have come used to persistance and unlocks.

Age of empires 3 when the new patch is relesed online scenarios will be allowed meaning FUN FUN FUN or you can get age of mythology w/ expansion pack it already has 1000s of scenarios or of corse Starcraft

if you're somewhat into RP, try Half Life 2 with Garry's Mod. There is a relatively large community of players around that like to RP, ( Melonbrew being the biggest I would think). I don't personally play, but I often hang out at a friends who does, and even watching some of the happenings is fun.
