Looks like Civ 6 is done: Kevin called April "final game update"

Also, the launcher updated. In my experience, a new launcher typically represents either a shift in the company's direction (i.e. developing a new game in earnest) or, generally, the end-of-life stage of a game as we see here. In other words, a new launcher is historically a good bellwether of the game being finished.
Surely the new 2K launcher doesn't = the catapult seen in the Feb update video, does it? :crazyeye:

...
What this announcement says to me is this is the last FREE update, not neccessarily the last update period. If Fireaxis percieves enough of a demand for more paid content that it will make money, there will be more paid content and really there is nothing wrong with that ...

I don't see it this way, for if they intend to release more paid content it would be premature for them to preclude a free "we need to fix something" update. Now if they deem that to be a "patch" and they deem "patches" to not be an "update" then anything is possible :-)

I'm now moving into the "Civ6 is at end of life" and that the next Civ game will be a spin-off between 6 and 7.

I just hope that resources from the scenarios (like gold) get moved to the base game and made compatible with Monopoly and Company mode in this patch.

That is a very good point, so I guess the answer to “would another pack be profitable” is “no”

I don't have any special insight to the business side of Firaxis (or any side!), but Carl did say that NFP sold way better than they thought it would. I can't imagine that it wasn't profitable or that another pack wouldn't also be so. If Civ VI is finished, then it's almost certainly because the team wants to move on and focus on whatever's next. Main series Civilization games tend to come out every 5-6 years, so it's just about time to let VI go, anyway.

I wouldn't mind more content, though. I still very much enjoy VI!

I wish. :)

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if all of this fantasy stuff that they put in the NFP is a prelude to some sort of fantasy spin-off game. :mischief:

I too would enjoy more content! I came on the scene later because I was still enjoying 5 with mods so it seems premature to me for them to be making a new game. Especially one which sends right back to a vanilla state of 10ish civs and nothing to do lol.

Well, there might be some good news, there. When V was released, it was pretty bare bones and took a while to really feel like a good game. When VI was released, they really built upon V and added new stuff, so it felt like a pretty good game right away. It wasn't stripped down like V was. So, maybe VII will also be rather good at launch!

THAT would be the Fallout 76 moment for Civ

Not Humankind

Eh, not really. As long as it's just a spin-off like Beyond Earth and not VII, I'm sure that it'd be just fine. There's clearly a market for fantasy 4X games (e.g. Endless Legend, Fallen Enchantress).

Oh ok I see what you mean, I missed the “spin off” thing
Yeah I meant into a spin-off. Specifically I'd be fine with a Mythology spin-off game, which honestly is kind of what the Heroes and Legends started to do.
I'd just want to tie in the Heroes and mythological beasts to specific civilizations.

Making a Fantasy Spin-Off would be very beneficial for FXS IMO, as it would bring a lot of new Players/Customers to the Game.

I would really welcome that, as I'm not ready for Civ VII yet, but for a non historical Civ Game. I didn't like the Fantasy stuff in NFP, because I want the Game to stay historically accurate, but I would love to get a Fantasy Spin-off Civ Game.
The Civs could be based on Fantasy Stories of Humankind, in our same World that we know, Mythology, or even something completely new like another completely different World. And that's the big advanatage of a Fantasy Game (even over a Sci-fi Game), the Devs don't have to make sure everything is historically accurate, realistic and scientifically explainable, as long as they make things comprehensible.
I would love to play a Game where I can teleport my Units from A to B so I can send my Armys very fast to Civs I want to conquer, Fight Magic/Mythological Beast in order to fulfill quests, or have my Civ completely settled in Ocean. That would be a completly new and neat Experience.

That tweet about "final FREE update" does not confirm my theory that Civ VI will go under maintenance mode after NFP.

For me, maintenance mode means continuous FREE updates (meaning fixes). Unless they want to leave Civ VI with unresolved bugs after April.

I just hope they have something to announce this month to make things clearer.

That is going to get messy in central/northern europe as Germany and the Scandinavians all fight over the same Gods and Heroes

I think “Update” referrs to additions/changes to the game, not bug fixes.

Shooting catapult ---> hitting old launcher ---> new one necessary

Is nothing playtested anymore?

When they announced NFP i was hoping for more even after it. Today I think its time to finish Civ6 and move on, game is 5 yeards old.

Just release everthing what modders need, and stay silent for 2 years before announcing Civ7. For me best, and most logical path forward.

WHAT NO!
Fraxis NEEDS to fix all the bugs and stuff before going silent. DO NOT GO SILENT UNTIL AUGUST AT LEAST! UPDATE TO FIX THE BUGS!

We all know bugs will remain ... maybe they will put out 1-2 patches after this month release, but I dont expect them to bother with updates for 5 years old game. Its simply capitalism, they will move on to next projects.

I just hope they release stuff for modders, so they can do piece of work what needs to be done.
