Forgive me if I should have posted this to another place, but I didn't find any alternative since posting requests to Unit Creation seemed to be forbidden.

To my question, has anyone made Tolkien (books or movie) related unit graphics? Didn't find any from downloads-section so I doubt not, but have to ask.

I think it would be fun to have units like Balrogs, Nazgûl, Elven Archers, Elven Swordsmen, Morgoth the Dark Lord, Sauron the Sorcerer and such. :D

Edit: Tried to fix subject that friendly moderator changed, and forgot to put the in it, but couldn't... :(

It's pretty sad when people have to start saying sorry at the beginning of a post because they may become a victim of a lovely wrong forum picture.

Anyways, yes there are mods out there for Civ which are related to LoR. Just look harder.

OffTopic:
Not trying to defend myself, just politely trying to say that I'm sorry for being n00b; and too lazy to check all half-million subforums and their descriptions.. :P

But thank you, I'll check again. I did look whole units-section, but to mods (?) then... *Goes*

You should have posted this in the Creation and Customization forum.

I'll be more careful next time, even though I don't believe that I start posting much here.

WinterRose:

If you play around with the search function a bit you will probably find something.

let me see:

searching for LOTR OR Lord AND Ring in Creations and Customization gives us:

amongst others:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22142&highlight=LOTR+OR+Lord+AND+Ring
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42808&highlight=LOTR+OR+Lord+AND+Ring

checkk them out, the full search results are here:

about the 'sorry' thing:

it seems some people at another forum wiht less strict spam and troll rules are claiming we beat up newbies here. makes us angry, as the only thing we do is collect and centralize the information for them in easy to find places and then send them there.

But lately, people seem to believe that stuff (or simply have so over-inflated egos) that when you tell them:
'hey, the info is in this link and from now on please use the newbie thread'

they feel insulted or mistreated.

So we do react a bit strange here when someone first says sorry, not because of him but because of the situatuion that makes this seem right to him/her.

oh, and another thing:

a more descriptive thread title would have been a good idea.
Like:

Are there LOTR units?

;) I hope you will stay here, CFC is the best Civ3 site on the net!

This is OT, I know. But Killer, I didn't get negative comments when I pointed out that we have places were you can find more info. That it, since gonzo placed the sticky 'look to the newbie thread'. I also think that things have calmed down since then.

I found those already. Problem was, that I looked at mainsite's downloads collection-section, not at this forum. Even though I didn't find that what I was looking for, units.

about the 'sorry' thing:

Understood.

You'r right, but I concider that as whining. That surely wasn't worth of own post?
You could have used edit, or kept it on yourself.

Yup, I'll stay, probably, though not as very active. Busy enough with another non-civ BBS which is on my native language, and therefore much more interesting.

WinterRose: I cannot edit sometimes (don't know why, I get the edit window but then cannot send the edited stuff).
Besides: whining? I was trying to give you a hint how you would probably get better answers to your question. A bit over-sensitive, are you?

On finding units: Perhaps there are some NOT posted here, at least not in the download collection. The thread with the requests would then probably give links. if not I am afraid there are noe available :(

Yeah, perhaps.

I can live without them. They would have been just cool. Who knows, perhaps I'll learn to make them by myself and post here.

But perhaps better to end this here and now, too much offtopic. :)

Go here and you'll get the Tolkien mod... Theres a lot of LOTR units there and there is a extremely good mod too :D

Even if there was a Civ3 site on my native language... and I bet there probably is.... I would be more active here. Better to discuss with people all around the world, then to do it with only your natives, they can come here too.

I downloaded that already at yesterday, but it kept crashing. And anyway, I repeat, I needed only units. Not a mod that replaces large amount of gamefiles.

Well, but that another site I was referring to is not a Civ III site. This is surely best Civ III related website out there, but not time to be active on two huge BBS's at same time. :)

just choose to install it somewhere else the youre civ3 directory and use the units that follow the mod.... =D

Oh? Not a bad idea. I'll try. Thank you.

...though did not work. Install-program automatically put them to Civ III folder even though I chose another folder. :/

hmm... that was wierd...
But you could just pm the guy who made them....
Im sure he would be glad to give you thenunits (I really cant understand why he shoudnt...)
His name is Eclipse

I'm working on an Elvish unit based on the movie's introduction (the battle against Sauron)... I really haven't seen very many other units except for the Orc conversions someone did.

Sounds like great. I have seen some of your work... and those were very impressive. :)

Just curious, would balrogs be too challenging? That would be cool also, since balrogs were most important part of Morgoth's army at First Age... especially in Dagor Bracollach, and in times before, in fight against Ungolianth, and in Udûn (Utumno). :)
