Losing promotions with unit upgrade (and 2 other promotion & upgrade issues)

1. The feature that removes promotions when your unit upgrades (for example, from Melee to Gunpowder, the Glorious promotion line is lost) triggers a message that the promotion has been removed and your unit can now select a new promotion.

I don't know if this is working as intended, but the message implies that you get your xp back and can select a new promotion without the unit experiencing any additional combat. In my current game, you do not get xp refunded for the lost promotions on any units I have tried this on. I have not tried this on units that do not have free promotions; I wonder if the game is counting total promotions on the unit against the amount of xp, and erroneously finding that no xp needs to be refunded on units that had free promotions when built.

2. Another upgrade issue (unrelated) is that I noticed the Clockwork Golem does not have an upgrade path.

3. Lastly, I have tried many different ways to get the Dedication promotion with units, but so far have only been able to get it on Crusaders who have a Noble/Viceroy attached. Attaching a Noble/Viceroy and/or Warlord to any other unit has not yielded this promotion option, despite trying many different combinations. The Civilopedia states that it only requires Lead by Noble and Combat 2. Is there a hidden piece to the mechanic that is not shown there?

Thanks! I'm finding this very enjoyable to test out, and I'm looking forward to the multimaps!

I think it works by just allowing to give 1 new promotion for every promotion that is lost and XP is not affected at all.

Do you mean it gives you a new promotion automatically, or that it gives you an opportunity to choose a new one?

Neither of these is happening in my current game. I will attach a file in which Rifling is about to be researched, and upgrading the Fanatics in my capitol will lose the promotions.

There's two things that can happen when a promotion is invalidated by an upgrade.
1) The promotion was free and yet now invalid and is thus simply lost without being able to replace it.
2) The promotion was earned and now invalid and is thus going to enable the unit to now select a replacement.

Neither XP nor level is a factor.

I haven't seen #2 happen on my earned promotions. Glorious III for example is very expensive in terms of XP since Glorious I requires Combat V; that's almost half of a unit's XP spent on those Glorious I-III promotions when they are earned. I had a couple dozen Fanatics with Glorious II and some with Glorious III, and in every case when I upgraded them and the Glorious promotions were lost, I was not given the option of selecting a new one. I also saw the same thing happen with Heavy Crossbowmen who lost Marksman[ship?] promotions, and I can't remember the other examples.

It SHOULD enable a retraining if it's a promo you earned. If it's not working properly to enable a retrain selection, I'll end up having to fix that with some priority.

Okay, thanks for looking into it. If this is fixable that would be awesome. If not, could you just code it to keep promotions that aren't compatible with the new unit type? I would not be disappointed by that outcome. Some of the Melee promotions are among my favorites, and I was really sad when I realized they wouldn't carry over into the industrial era anymore (they used to, didn't they?).

I just tested this save and could not replicate the loss of the glorious promos at all so I think something's been changed but I can't say for sure it was a fix.
