Lost Eden development thread

He just gave it a go, and it crashed on year 24. :X

If your friend is willing, replace the custom pcx files for the Toad with the custom pcx files for one of the seven factions that don't have a problem and see if you still get a crash. That will tell us if the problem is with the pcx files or with the text file.

Alternatively, you could replace the faction text file for the Toad with one of the seven faction text files (changing only the name).

Has your friend tried any of the other "expansion" factions?

We went and played a game using my XP laptop instead. It worked perfectly, and only stopped at year 136 when the game freaked out at me going too overboard with council meetings. It didn't matter too much though -- he was going to win by economic victory in year 141. :p

We didn't get to isolating it further. Sorry!

Onto other things: Firstly, I am stuck for a good leader name and faction name for the Hitmontop. He leads a gladiator team, city graphic is a classical arena. Any thoughts?

I also finished a Mewtwo team's graphics. Yet to get really creative and come up with good stats for this one (or the other expansion teams to be honest :lol:). I don't want to completely rip off the original factions. :p

Here's also the current version of the spy. Don't worry he is decent. :D What do you think? Does he need better colours? Or more accessories? Definitely different from the starting pic. :lol:

Another time.

Maximus (character played by Russell Crowe in Gladiator) was a Roman general who was enslaved and became a great gladiator.

I think he is very good. It has a ninja vibe and the ninjas were spies. To get more of the ninja vibe, the headgear and clothes should be jet black. You might consider making the headgear more of a hood (with the face exposed) rather than a bandanna. You might also think about putting a ninja device in his hand (sword, nunchucks, throwing star).

Okay, that could work. :)

Yeah, haven't done a logo yet, but think a greyish green recolour of the Angels base. The Mewtwo himself had to be green as purple really didn't work out very well.

Thanks. :D I didn't know I was good at art hey, this is the first time I have tried something like this. :eek:

Great idea hey; I spoke to a friend at church tonight about what you said and he suggested that I go for something more "assassin" rather than "ninja" as that way we avoid the "pirates vs. ninja" debate. :lol: So I am changing his scroll to a katana now, and have made his armbands/bandana/boots black. This presents a small problem though: if we have a black assassin or what have you, then what colour should his faction be? (the Pirates have already taken black).

Where does Mewtwo come from (a cat, "Mewl" too :))? Then I could start proposing faction stats.

How about red (for blood)?

In the Pokemon lore Mewtwo is a genetically engineered clone of Mew, just more powerful (so I don't know how the clone part comes in).

This Mewtwo has got a little agro though, his agenda is Goal: All Must Die. He leads "The Betrayed". Is that enough to get you going? :)

An idea is giving him Robust Growth so choosing All Must Die doesn't kill off his Growth completely (or not, I am not sure). :)

How about red (for blood)?
Don't Native units already use red? If that could be changed though I would do it in a second... Gaian green is far more natural for these natives.

High morale, high support for good combat. Make aggressive, so he fights everybody. Balance with low economy, low efficiency.

That's right. I don't know if it can be changed.

Okay then, how about +MORALE, +SUPPORT, -ECONOMY, -EFFIC, Robust GROWTH for The Betrayed? :)

I don't think that the colour of native units can be changed. :(

How about clear for assassins? As in, the shield's primary colour is the colour normally used for shadow, and the background colour black or dark red?

Personally i would see mewtwo faction having high psionic combat bonuses, low morale(discarded clones unhappy without purpose) high growth bonus

Hehe that sounds good. Thanks for the input Cataphract887. :)

How I would manifest that idea would be something like this: +50% Psi, +SUPPORT, -ECONOMY, -EFFIC, --MORALE, Robust GROWTH.

If Mewtwo started with Native Cooperation (so Psi units) & Ancient Knowledge (for Weeping Idol) then it would work out. Lack of starting Planet means that he can't recruit natives easily unless he makes a beeline for Perfect Society, a late game tech. He is forbidden from Christainity so he can't get any Planet earlier unless he finds the Mystic Ruins.

The difference between these two is that they will be pretty weak for conventional combat. All Robust does is make them immune from the bad effects of a particular SE. I don't believe you can apply Robust to a particular SOCIAL EFFECT only to a particular SOCIETY MODEL.

I think the --MORALE should be dropped.

Without the ability to recruit native units, but a significant psi bonus, this faction should do in combat against native units.

Nah it works for a social effect (at least that is what alphax.txt says).

I think the --MORALE should be dropped.
Okay then. It's still in planning stages of course, feel free to suggest anything else you want. :)

That sounds good.
Alright then. :) What sort of clothing do you think he should wear? The central area of the clothes above (above the boots, below the head) were just thrown so for you. I can just do the same thing again if you want to have another preview (for the shading/katana).

I guess you mean "do well". Is this a good thing or a bad thing? :)

Sorry, I misremembered.

Since they are clones, how about an industry bonus?

Ninja outfits looks like karate outfits. Loose pants with tunic over it with knotted cloth belt.

Good thing. They are clones.

It's no problem vyeh, you have been such a great help hey.

Sure why not? :)

I am not sure... I don't want to overdo the clothing, it's really just enough to cover the nudity that I can't get away with. :lol: I cheated with Lukas (it's Link if it wasn't obvious) as I just copied a recolour of his original clothes back on (might be worth revisiting him and investing some more effort with something more creative).

Also I don't want it to be a 100% ninja too, just ninja-y. Hehe new word coinage. :p

I am thinking a pair of scabards on his back to carry the swords when they aren't being used, and a loin cloth that is typical of japanese anime things. :p

As for the faction colours:
Shield primary = transparent
Shield secondary = dark red
Text primary = full red
Text secondary = black

You know, I have just realised that the expansion teams are almost all military-orientated. We have pirates, assassins, gladiators, clones bent on revenge... We should try to keep the Nidoqueen's faction not over the top. :) We have two pacifists though, Rangers and Merchants. Currently only Mewtwo is aggressive and the rest are erratic. I just mean that there's lots of factions that are interested in something combat-related. :lol:

Ninjas only used one sword. Samurai had two. I like the loin cloth.

Well I have two versions. My personal one deosn't have the loin cloth (in fact I posted the one above as soon as I had finished the cloth) but I will use the one I have attached here for the release version. Humans are unlike Pokemon in that they normally wear clothes; just zooming in the pic slightly to cut off things doesn't work as well.

EDIT: I made the swords a bit thicker thanks to a friend's tip, I have not update it above though (it took an hour. :S). Just think 50% wider than they are now. :)

And I might as well post my current ideas for Betrayed and True Arena:

The Betrayed
+50% PSI: {Followers desire revenge}
+1 INDUSTRY: {Rage fuels production}
-1 ECONOMY: {Lack of interest in wealth}
-1 EFFIC: {People are selfish due to past hurt}
-1 MORALE: {Troops often freeze in panic}
Receives half penalties for GROWTH modifiers
{May not embrace Christianity in Social Engineering.}

The True Arena
+2 MORALE: {Battle hardened warriors that train daily}
-1 EFFIC: {It is time-consuming to transfer creatures from arena to arena}
-1 INDUSTRY: {Extravagant Arena operation proves costly}
Free ARENA in every base.
{May not value Knowledge}

What do you think vyeh? :)

What is ARENA equivalent to?

BTW, until you have exceeded the bureaucracy limit, the first citizen in a base at Transcend is a worker, not a drone.
