Lost Eden development thread

Post 1000! That's pretty epic. Thanks for being with me all this time Emperor Vyeh. :goodjob:

A very significant milestone. It is interesting to read your first post in this thread again.

I glanced briefly at the thread at WPC. I don't plan to monitor it. If there is anything you want me to look at, let me know here with the post number. Lots of posts there! :)

Traditionally, boxing day is when everybody takes their leftovers from Christmas and gives them to the poor. Of course in today's society people don't care about poor people anymore so it's more just a free holiday.

Nice tradition. It would be nice if American children would give away their old toys.

I plan to try and do something for both projects that I am working on each day. :) Just had two days of socialness, which was cool, so yeah two days of productivity ahead. :D

Great. Although I would like to see LE finalized by the New Year, Buster's Uncle may inspire you to revisit the art and art shouldn't be on a time table.

Yeah, just an evasive request for balance suggestions haha. :D Well it's been a journey, that is for sure. Lots of people have come and gone, yet we remain!

That is fine. :) I didn't think that you would... besides this is the main development thread anyhow. :) Major goals include finishing the art, the audio and getting balance feedback.

Yeah! Charity/Christian second-hand shops are good for that, but it would be good if people thought about others more.

We'll see how we go! :D

Well, you got the balance suggestions. I think the results will be worth the journey. It will be a mod that you will enjoy playing with your friends for years to come. And maybe someone someday will make it his/her favorite.

Finishing the art and audio are under your control. What do the people you play the game think?

Yeah! Charity/Christian second-hand shops are good for that, but it would be good if people thought about others more.

People can always donate their used toys to those stores.

We'll see how we go! :D

You know my philosophy. A little bit consistently is the way to go.

Hehe I got more than balance suggestions! :) I made lots of friends too. :D And yeah, it's good to finish off a project and make the people that might enjoy it happy. :)

I assume that in the above sentence, "people you play the game" means "people who play the game". I have no online testers, and the good majority of people who play it in real life don't like it due to the age of the user interface... basically because it's SMAC and not Civ 4 or 5. It is a poor excuse, but yeah. :( The only remaining friend who plays the game hasn't got the experience to speak on anything with certainty yet. The guy who used to play this with me went to Sydney early this year, and he's got Mac OSX which of course doesn't work with SMAX.

People can always donate their used toys to those stores.
Yeah. :D We have done that ourselves when we grew out of our toys. I've only got like two soft toys now.

You know my philosophy. A little bit consistently is the way to go.
Hehe yeah, consistency is the hallmark of good progress. I plan to get some work done on my other project today, but will endeavour to keep things balanced. One of my MSN buddies wants me to draw Rakash again so that will be good for bioscan stuff too.

Too bad.:(

What did he think?

Good.

The friend who went to Sydney was the one who enjoyed playing it with me. While he was new, he was very meticulous so not ended up being that bad. He was good company. :)

Buster's Uncle has provided some of the misc. graphics from SMAX in a somewhat pixelated yet deinterlaced form, which has allowed me to start replacing them. In some cases I've just gone and redrawn it, but either way, impetus to progress is good. It's stuff that's on the checklist for gold release anyhow. :) I've attached the four images that I have done so far.

Today I was remembered of the website moddb. Do you think that it would be a good idea to put Lost Eden on there?

The fact that he enjoyed it is good feedback.

They look good! :goodjob:

I don't know that website. Tell me more about it.

Yeah. :D

Thank you! I will try to erode away at them over time.

Mod database is a sinkhole website for all mods of all games. From memory the quality has to be pretty high, although there's 0 mods under the Alpha Centuari section. Might be worth putting the gold version up there.

EDIT: *waves to bdanv*

It's been suggested to return to the idea of having a GOTM for Janurary, to promote the mod. :) I've been doing a little bit of brainstorming RE: what sort of idea would be cool, but yeah, cool train of thought. I've been working on that Rakash sketch and those misc. images on occasion. Should the weather permit I'll do some recording for the game tonight.

Progress, it's sweeter than milk!

I thought I wasn't going to get there in time, but I've recorded all the quotes for Saig! :D I didn't think that I was going to end up doing him, but I figured out a good voice for him and got them all done. Still need to edit and sort into ingame format, but that's only 2 hours or so work I can do tomorrow.

Locate the seven original factions and allow the player to choose which faction to play.

Nothing to report at this stage. :) I have a big day out tomorrow (another tournament) as well. Otherwise I'll plan to get some more of either those misc. graphics or some more recordings done. E.g. I haven't redone mine on the good quality mic yet (only temporary ones I did on the fly ages ago). :O

I hope that you are keeping well. :D

How are you going vyeh? :) Christmas soon!

Sorry for being silent... things are proceeding slowly, although somewhat distracted by the GotM story that I am writing. I finished making a new city graphic for it as both Realm and Believers are in the same scenario and I didn't want the clash.

I don't see it as a distraction. The story adds to the game. Did the Realm use the same graphics as the Believers?

Somewhat. 5 factions in Lost Eden use recoloured versions of SMAC/X buildings:
  • Realm - white version of Believers
  • Oblivion - reddish version of Gaians
  • CyndaTech - red version of Morgans
  • Betrayed - blueish green version of Data Angels
  • Rakis - pale yellow version of Planet Cult

Here's the GotM version:
