Lost Eden development thread

Kilkakon,

I posted at Octopus Overlords.

It would probably be a good idea to check occasionally and let me know if I need to reply.

I am trying to follow the strategy that I have urged on you and do a little every day rather than waiting until I have time to do everything. :)

Without going OT, there is a lot going on RL, so if you don't hear from me for a couple of days, be sure to (double) post!

Might I suggest subscribing to the thread so you are automatically notified of updates?

I'm under the hammer of having an assignment due pretty soon. It should be the last for a while, and then I hope (and pray) that I can finally learn from my mistakes and get some work ethic, and start the next batch immeditately with some sane scheduling. That way I can avoid a very stop-start process on this. :)

I might have to take your strategy for my bedroom.

And I hope that everything in RealLife is going okay! *hugs*

Well I hope that you get it all sorted then Mr. V. :)

As for me, I've PMed Kyrub and JH24 as I haven't heard anything from as of yet and I'd like some input about the game other than just my own! Also, I've fallen out of practice with my drawing... I'm going to try and get back into it as then I can work on other things like the title screen. Quote recordings could also be done. :)

That all sounds good.

EDIT: Happy Easter (since Perth is ahead of the U.S.)!

I still haven't heard from either Kyrub or JH24 as of yet, which is a bit weird. Let's hope that everything is okay with them. Actually there's been no posts at all on this board other than a few in the Let's Play thread (I might do one of those for Lost Eden one day!).

And thank you! Happy Easter to you as well. I actually have my birthday in the coming week as well, so fun times ahead too! (Will be getting an LE game on there as well) :)

How have you been going vyeh? :)

It is Easter/Spring Break. Let us hope/pray that they are doing something involving family/friends.

You've been kind of quiet for a six days. I try to check this thread once a day. (While I only check my forum once a week.) Occasionally I will look at some other unread threads on this forum.

Thank you.

I saw King's Speech and thought about you as one of the major characters was an Australian. Some bad language, but a very moral film, where faith, hard work and love triumphed.

Focusing on LE, let's identify some things we can work on. I suppose I could post at the German and Polish sites. (Or maybe you could PM bdanv and ask for his help.)

Speaking of bdanv, this might be a good time to do a Game of the Month (GOTM) using LE on the WePlayCiv forum. I don't know what the status of the GOTM is (except that I haven't seen any notices on this forum), but it seems there might be a win-win. You would get some of the playtesting you desire and the WPC community would get an interesting scenario. And you could learn something about setting up a scenario working with bdanv and other members of the GOTM group.

Yeah! :) There's no reason for concern yet.

Apologies there. I was waiting for the others to PM me and only yesterday gave up and posted here. I'll admit that I had a bit of a personal wobbley a few days ago as well, which contributes.

What day?
Friday. :) I'm looking forward to a great time with my friends.

I don't know the film, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Nice of you to think of me too. :goodjob:

Yes of course. Would you prefer me to interface with Bdanv directly?

I haven't done much in the way of LE changes, other than spotting a spelling mistake a few days ago. Quote recordings are probably the last big thing. I'll write them down onto this week's to do list. Probably Wednesday will be the best day for that as all the public holidays will be over so there'll be less noise and interruptions.

That sounds like a great idea! Mhm... I'll PM bdanv and get his initial thoughts about what he thinks of a Lost Eden scenario, as well as what to do with it should it seem like something that they would like to get into. It might just be the exposure the game needs. :)

No need to apologize. It probably is helpful to touch base every day or couple of days as I think together we are better than the sum of the parts.

Friday. :) I'm looking forward to a great time with my friends.

Friday night and hopefully you can sleep a little later Saturday. :)

I don't know the film, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Nice of you to think of me too. :goodjob:

I assume that the film has been released in Australia. It won an (American) Academy Award for Best Picture.

Yes of course. Would you prefer me to interface with Bdanv directly?

Yes. He might be able to help you with other avenues of publicity since he has done so for GOTM.

If I recall, there are a lot of files that need to be modified, e.g. help, tutorial. Probably best to do it slow and steady.

I think the good v. evil theme lends itself well to a scenario. For your reference, here is an example. If this was the last GOTM, maybe the LE scenario should be GOTY. :)

It might just be the exposure the game needs. :)

I was thinking more about getting some game playing feedback rather than publicity.

Since last May 31, you've established yourself in the SMAC community. While I think SMAC is the best game ever, it has been a long time since I played. Obviously, I'd like to see LE released in a final form and copies uploaded at CFC and CGN, so it will be around in future years even if your website isn't. After LE is released, I think my role in the SMAC community will diminish (unless scient returns).

Because of that, I would like you to take control of the CGN private forum. It doesn't require much work, but someone should have the keys. :) You can PM me at CGN for more details. (Let me know in this thread if you PM me. I check this thread a lot more often. :))

I think a realistic calendar is that creating a GOTM would require a month, so maybe the LE GOTM (assuming bdanv is interested) could be released on the anniversary of your first post in this thread. After a month, there would be player feedback and LE could be finalized at the beginning of July.

Yeah! Let's keep working together as best as we can. :D

Friday night and hopefully you can sleep a little later Saturday. :)
My plans are a bit different actually. Friends are coming over on Thursday for Lost Eden, and then Friday is gaming all day with FPS/RTS/Minecraft as well. :D

Yes. He might be able to help you with other avenues of publicity since he has done so for GOTM.
Let's see what we can do! :D

If I recall, there are a lot of files that need to be modified, e.g. help, tutorial. Probably best to do it slow and steady.
There isn't help and tutorial, but there are techlongs. Those are the last text-based things to write. There are several audio/visual components left to do. :)

Quite possibly! I'll let you know when bdanv responds.

I was thinking more about getting some game playing feedback rather than publicity.
Both are important. :D

I'd be honoured. Be sure to keep in touch though even if it's just PMs and so on! I wouldn't have thought I would have known enough about SMAC/X other than what I have learnt from modding, although that might be enough. Also there's the question of what versions of LE are a-okay on there.

I'm happy with that. :) I'll admit that I do need to get my art groove back into gear soon... at least drawing Meora a few times is necessary.

How about this thread?

You learn a lot about a game from modding! The important thing is that you have made an effort to help others in this forum.

Also there's the question of what versions of LE are a-okay on there.

at least drawing Meora a few times is necessary.

Why?

Probably not. :)

Haha alright. :D

Yeah! And thanks. :D

Here on CFC, I'm only allowed to post the G one. I'm not sure what would be the case over there (same deal for the GotM thing actually).

To date, there is no official image of the guy. I was thinking that a picture of him would be good as the quit dialog popup.

I administer the rules there and have had discussions with the owner about the rules in the past, so I can safely say there won't be any problems although I would probably want some kind of warning (similar to what is already on your site).

Excellent. :) I'll post a small note onto the end of the annoucement thread there saying that the PG version exists as well for those who want to download it.

No word on PMs yet...

Good.

Are you talking about PMs you are expecting to receive or a PM you plan to write me (at CGN)?

EDIT: I've given you access to the CMN private forum at CGN. You should see the forum on your forum page.

The former. :)

Thank you! Yeah I've spotted it now. :)

Thank you! Yeah I've spotted it now. :)

You're also a moderator of the CMN forum. Feel free to try out your moderator powers. I believe I can fix anything. (I don't think you have the power to permanently delete anything.)

Regarding LE, do you remember my suggestion that there be a story about the main character (you) on your website?

EDIT: Happy Birthday!

The celebrations are now complete! Thank you for your birthday wishes. We played a Lost Eden game, although it took us 2 hours to figure out that Windows Vista/7 won't network (resorted to backup 2000/XP machines although the 2000 one died at about turn 130ish).

I haven't had a chance to do anything internet/PC related for a little while, including looking at the CMN forum. I'll do it soon. :) In other news, Kyrub replied a few days ago saying that he hasn't looked at the game yet but "definitely will". Let's hope in the near future. :)

I remember your suggestion yes! We should probably get active about setting it into motion. :D
