Please discuss here how we should use our new Great Scientist Louis Pasteur.

Main Options:
* Lightbulb Compass
* Settle in Arete
* Academy in Arkadia

I personally prefer option 3.

I agree. Option 3 sounds good.

I also agree with 3.

It depends on what we're doing with Barca and whether we're planning on producing another. If we are then i think we should keep barca and buil an acadamy there also.

Between Arkadia and Barca we will have a ver strong commercial centre.

I think we'll be generating more.

Wouldn't Madrid be better than Barca? (depending on how we specialize Madrid, of course)

Perhaps but the Temple of Artemis would be more usefull early on whilst we're waiting for the cottages to develop.

Anyway, we'll see about that later, Louis Pasteur should go to Arkadia.

Academy! 10 characters

What? Another academy? Please don't be silly. Settle him in Arete. Now.

Seriously, what was the point of the Academy in Arete if you do not intend to use it?
(You even have plans of moing capi right? In that case, what sense does it make to make an academy in Arete and then not settling? It's not like it's flowing in :commerce: when not counting the 8 from the Palace).

Since the decision with Ptolomy was to build an academy in Arete, I think it should be obvious we played along that line and settled him there. It will net us 11,25 :science:. Does Arkadia earn 22+ raw :science:? I don't think so. Settle in Arete.

Academy, in Arkadia

Does Arkadia earn 22+ raw ? I don't think so. Settle in Arete.

It will in future and will grow and grow, whereas we will always get the same basic rate of beakers from a settled scientist.

22 raw science is like what, 5 towns at 100%, ignoring printing press, trade routes and river bonusses. So that's like 8 towns at a normal science rate. We can get there fairly soon to be honest.

And don't discount the culture it gives, it might be important in the current culture war.

Typically, you are better served in the long run with multiple Academies if you have multiple commerce rich cities. Trust me, we will get much more bang over time for the buck so to speak with an Academy in Arkadia as well. Heck, I would strongly support a third Academy in New Giruvegan one day. Ivory, Gold...However, the ROI diminishes significantly after 3 Academies, although I do have a sweet game that I've been milking with 6 Academies, lol!

I know but I tend to play the SuperScienceCity tactic, Academying and then settling everyone in the city with greatest :science: potential. Oxford it aswell. Makes the most of them, even in the long run.

I suppose you're running Representation then too, giving an extra +3 :beakers:. A typical specialists economy, and very strong if done right. I prefer a cottage economy, personally, it just seems easier. You plop down cottages on the grassland, and 70 turns later, you're making tons of money.

Good points both of you. I guess here is where we must make a line in the sand.

Either we go with the superscience city idea or the cottage idea. This is something we should ask the public about perhaps, no?

I dont think its here we make the decision, Arete is fairly weak for making a superscience city, it would mean either having more river tiles or having a better food capacity. As it is it'll make a poor attempt at both but seeing as cottages give the most immediate benefit we may as well go with them.

With diamond's idea as well, to get maximum benefit we'd be running caste system (we don't have) and pacifism (we don't have).

Though i do agree we should start making some profit from our philo trait and settle a GP city at somepoint soon.

I can accept that he is settled in Arkadia, with the catch that all Great Persons achieved later on who provide :science: are settled there as well. Else, we are suddenly waisting the second GS aswell.

Quite frankly that is a ridiculous statement. If we gain another city that also has high commerce we should consider settling a scientist there also. In addition we may get another GS that can be used to bulb a tech, Philosophy/paper/education/liberalism. In comparison to the benefits that could be gained from doing either of them two things then settling the scientist is a waste, especially as the game progresses the number of beakers garnered from a settled GS mean nothing.
