Well, I love Civ3 and I play it still I can't keep my eyes opens sometimes. However, I was wondering if anyone can recommend any other TURN-BASED games. I tried playing games like Age Of Empires II and Age of Mythlogy, but I just don't get the same experience. Hell, they just frustrate me. I like more of the strategy and "chess" aspect of turn-based games. Any suggestions?

*Please don't mind my horrible spelling.*

Dojoboy will probably be along soon to tell you all about Hearts of Iron (WWII) and Europa Universalis (Middle Ages to Napoleon). Both use the same game engine, and are ported to Mac OS by Virtual Programming Ltd in the UK.

They run continuously, but have a pause function that allows people like me to decide what to do next without the computer running on and killing me while I'm thinking slowly. I haven't played them myself, as Civ3 and the local activities take up all my gaming time.

I think someone posted that in an older thread of mine. They basically are real time, but have a pause is that it? Therefore, they are not really turn-based...right? Why can't there be more truly turn-based games? Hey, no any old ones? I mean, I don't really care TOO much about graphics and sound...

I believe that Rise of Nations due soon (and on my (pre-)christmas shopping list) use a mix between turn based and RTS.

There is always the classic, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (SMAC) and its Alien Crossfire (SMACx) expansion. They are TBS games and still worthy of HD space. EU2 and HOI are RTS w/ the pause feature, as AlanH mentioned. In fact, RoN is the same set up. At the moment, I've been playing a lot of Spartan. It is a TBS game w/ real-time battles, very nice. It does not have a steep learning curve.
