Alright ladies, listen up! I am looking for volunteers to play a leg-infantry emperor variant of C3C v 1.22. We will be playing on archipelago as the U-S-of A. When I say leg-infantry, I mean no chariots, horses, knights, or cavalry. We get up close and personal with the enemy and kill them! No tanks or modern armor either. I’m looking for a tech emphasis in the late industrial age on amphibious tactics if it gets that far. That means United States Marines! All victory conditions would be enabled, with the goal of domination. Now my question is, who out there is up to this?

Version: C3C v1.22
Difficulty: Emperor
Civ: America
Map: Archipelago 70%
Barbs: Roaming
Victory conditions: All enabled
Opponents: Random

Variant: No horse-based units or tanks/MA

All other conditions up for consideration.
Honorable play wherever possible. Please ask when in doubt.
24 hours to post "Got it" and 48 to play.

America on an Archipelago map? That completely defeats the purpose of the Expansionist trait.

I understand what you're getting at Cuivienen, but I also believe you're overstating the case. If you eliminated barbs/goody huts from the scenario, that would have a far greater impact on the trait. Also, it's not uncommon to find a civ or two on a shared land mass in archipelgo. Finally, with Mapmaking/galleys, isolated islands can be discovered with huts for some time.

Enlisting in the Second Massachusetts Regiment.

I'd like to play.

What about air units? We don't need any snooty blue Air Force brats, do we? Artillery do the same job!

Of course, that might make our Golden Age kind of tricky . . .

Oooh-rah! Welcome aboard shooter6947! I think air power might come in handy in softening up potential beachheads when in range, so my preference would be to keep it. But we can certainly put it to a vote.

Let's go, you lurkers! If Gozpel's game based on letters of the alphabet can get sign-ups, then there's no reason this one can't get another volunteer or two. ;)

WTH. I'm in if it is a standard size map. You know, you sound just like R. Lee on that show... Bede should be able to fix any of my major errors.

Good to have you with us, Admiral. Yes, it is a standard map and I have 5 starts generated for us to vote on. We can start with the four of us, and hopefully we'll pick up a fifth before too long.

I tried to order up a little variety here. Start A has a couple vineyards going for it, plus a river start. B is another river start without booze, but with some room to add a steakhouse. Start C is the one location where a move 1NW might be in order, but it gets us an early hut and furs. Starts D & E are very similar where E is a lumberjacks dream. Plenty of timber for our industious workers to go after. If the team would chime in with a choice, we'll see about getting started. I kind of like choice B for the early growth track, but E would get us a granary very early as well.

In order of preference:
1. B
2. C
3. D

Like B cause of the cow. C is a close second (the fool that i am, I'd set research to CB on min. and move the scout to pop the hut to see if that is fresh water to the north
D ain't bad cause of the BG. yes I've lost mind, but on D, I'd move the settler NW after moving the scout NE-N, the worker W and then decide about the settler.

That would be 2 votes for B. One point about A is that wine is a food source in addition to a lux, so irrigating both would add +2 to the food supply, just as irrigating the cow would in B (difference being the cow also has a shield value of 1). Of course the settler would have to move off the wine tile. Wanted to mention that in case it affected anyone's choice.

I'm keen if you'll have me M60. and I agree with B first choice, C second choice.

edit: I hadn't noticed the second wines. we can only see 1 BG in both the cow and the wine start but having a lux on our home island could be nice. I still think I prefer B but could be talked into A if others want it.

A no-brainer, Nem. Delighted to have you.

We have 3 votes for B, but if Bede and Shooter have anything to add, we can hold off on posting the start.

Gotta go with B: Shiraz and Merlot both and a handy hill that just might have iron. Infantry armies fight on their stomachs after all.

Sounds like B is the runaway choice.

Here's the save:

Start at 4000BC

If anyone wants to take the first 20, feel free. Otherwise, I'll grab it tomorrow and set the order in any case. Please let me know if you have any preference.

Well, I kinda like A and C b/c of the luxuries, which mean we wouldn't have to use as many MPs in the early going. But if B is the consensus I won't complain.

Didn't mean to leave you out, shooter, but it did seem there was a pretty strong consenus for B.

Playing in a couple hours, if anyone has any start build suggestions.
Will settle in place and get our cattle some H2O.
