MAC-01 Indonesia

We need to stick to the 10-turn playset outlined in the SG description. Too much takes place without team input/feedback.

From looking at the save my plan is to finish the trireme and start exploring. I plan on swinging wide east while heading south and if there's a landmass that way I might go east instead. If so then that forces us to either build a second trireme to go west, or a land unit to embark and head west. I'm still undecided and probably won't make that decision until after the trireme's first move. Any opinions on this?

Yes, finish the trireme. I vote for a land unit to embark and head west. It's risky, versus barb trireme, but I think we need to at this point. That said, make the best judgement once the first trireme gets out there.

Tech wise I'm considering going for Mining -> Masonry. We have two Workers and I hate for them to just stand around. I really wish that we only had one.

Good line to follow. Horses (Animal Husbandry) and archers (Archery) aren't anything we need right now anyway. You don't want that library (Writing)?

Speaking of policies, we need to discuss which ones we choose. It's only turn 33 and we already have opened two separate policy trees.

We need to stick to Tradition (Aristocracy next, or Legalism if you think we'll bump back up for Writing and Drama & Poetry soon), unless we feel we have a chance at the FP and need to open Patronage down the road, but that's a tendency in my SP games.

Agree on sticking with the 10 turns.

While I do want a library and typically head for it earlier, I hate to have those workers standing around doing nothing during that time. I might go Mining first and then see what all they'll have to do and if it won't waste too much time, go Writing before Masonry.

I was thinking about this last night. At this point, I'm think Tradition would be wiser for us. We don't need the rushed settler as we don't have to compete for land. Plus due to our current situation, I don't think Liberty is going to give us enough of a benefit to make it worth doing. Tradition seems the wiser IMO.

Turn 33, 2680 BC: Nothing to change, so hit 'Next Turn'.

Turn 35, 2600 BC: Worker finishes the farm, unfortunately there isn't much for him or the other one to do, so I send them to construct more farms.

Optics completed, start research on Mining. I went back and forth on this one, on whether to go Mining or Writing. While going Writing first would mean we could start on the Library earlier, it would also mean our Workers would spend quite a few turns just standing around while we paid 2 :gold:/turn on them. By going Mining first at least they could work on those hills which will speed up production on the library, though in the end I think we'll finish it a few turns after had we done it first.

Turn 37, 2520 BC: Trireme finishes and he heads east and south. Nothing so far, but here's hoping.

Cupertino starts on a scout. I also like Optional's idea regarding putting focus on :gold: to grab the dyes during growth (which we'll grow this turn).

Turn 39, 2440 BC: Nothing to the SE, so our Trireme heads west along our southern coast.

Turn 40, 2400 BC: Mining -> Writing.

A barb ship appears from the NW.

Turn 41, 2360 BC: Cupertino Scout -> Shrine. We're rather cash strapped at the moment, but I figure we need the faith. Plus it finishes in 7 turns the same as Writing, so we can toss the Library i afterwards. Personally I don't like dealing with religions, but faith always seems to come in handy, so here's hoping the Shrine is worth it.

I had planned on sending the scout to the north of the mountains, but due to the barbs he goes south as well.

Turn 42, 2320 BC: We meet Sofia.

attachment.php

Turn 43, 2280 BC: Trireme continues on past Sofia and our scout embarks into the sea.

After Writing we need to go either Masonry or Calendar. Once the Shrine finishes we'll be breaking even on :gold:/turn, so we need that extra cash. We're already working the dye and currently can't afford to switch off of it.

Our Worker's are mining the two grass hills right now, which will help with production when needed.

After the Shrine I'm thinking Library for the extra :science:.

Sofia only gave us 15 :gold:, so at least this landmass is big enough for at least one other civ.

I have the save and will post some preturn thoughts. Making an overnight trip today, so will plan to play my turn Sunday night.

I've never heard this before. So certain city states will not appear with certain AI civs, or is this the only instance?

Optional is right. You can tell who is not in the game, because CS's receive UU's of civs that did not seed in the game.

How are things going? I assume RL struck again?

Things aren't going to good here. Last night my oldest daughter (she's 6) spilled her water on the MBP. One second they were watching 'My Little Ponies' and the next the screen went black. We're currently trying to dry it out, but we're guessing its probably shot. The Mac mini is our primary computer, but it sucks to lose the MBP.

I'll have it up tonight, apologies. I was more wiped out than I thought getting back in town Sunday, and my wife stayed by her ailing father last night.

Hope that MBP survives! Ugh!

* Trireme met Lady Maria I (traded our embassy for 1 gpt)
* scouting

3 - 1960 BC - 46

* scouting
* Obtained SP, selected Legalism (to open Landed Elite and Monarchy for our next decision, which would give us something we can actually use at this point in the game). Namely Landed Elite for the growth bonus.

4 - 2120 BC - 47

* Great Library built by a rival (at least one AI is on our current tech path)
* mines completed
* Trireme met Isabella (traded our embassy for 1 gpt)

5 - 2080 BC - 48

* Writing researched, set to Monarchy (7 turns) for ability to improve stone & marble resources)
* Shrine built, set to Library (12 turns)

6 - 2040 BC - 49

* scouting

7 - 2000 BC - 50

* discovered Barb Camp (no threat)

8 - 1960 BC - 51

* scouting

9 - 1920 BC - 52

* Trireme met Quebec City
* ice cap blocks Trireme's western movement

10 - 1880 BC - 53

* Scout explores ruins to our north (gain 30 :c5faith: )

Recap

1 - next SP in 17 turns; I recommend Landed Elite for the growth.
2 - Library completed in 7 turns, next build? I recommend granary.
3 - 1 worker currently farming, 1 worker on Stone tile waiting for Masonry to be completed.
4 - Cupertino grows in 4 turns; tile assignment?
5 - Trireme turned back East.

Excellent! We finally meet another civ! Sucks that our western route is blocked, but at least now we've explored some. I haven't had a chance to look at the save yet, so no comments on our plans. I'll take a look tomorrow evening.

2cool4civ hasn't been online since the 9th, so going to auto-skip him for now.

Eric, before you play let's discuss our goals. While I haven't looked at the save, I would agree that Landed Elite is the best policy to take next. Not sure on tech path or build order.

We also need to discuss AI demands, in the event they try to extort gold or resources from us. We are a ways from having enough, but whoever is playing should have an idea of what our overall aim is. This, of course, can change over the course of the game.

Research wise I'm inclined to go Archery next even though I realize with out current locked-in empire barbs isn't something we need to worry about. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I'm also inclined towards Bronze Working to see if we have Iron nearby for our Kris Swordsman. Beyond that I'm not sure. Based on what we've seen so far any ideas on the type of VC we want to go far?

I'm wondering if after the Library is completed if we should start in on a settler. What I'm contemplating is to start with a three city Tradition start until we settle off our continent. The mountain range makes for excellent defense, so we could settle two more cities right here and then go tall. We wouldn't have to worry about barbs so building a couple of food caravans to the other two cities would help grow them rather quickly.

Whether we do the above or not, I still think we need to get a second city out fairly soon. We could plant it north of the southern scout and toss some nets on the crab to cover its own happiness.

Our next policy should be Landed Elite IMO. I don't see us going wide for a while, so the policies in Liberty don't seem as good as those in Tradition based on our situation.

The above is just a quick look. What do you all think?

EricTheGreat12, be sure to play the 10-turn playset, so we can keep a handle on developments as a team.

Since we should build a settler next, as you suggest below, let's go Bronze Working. If the timing is right (and our luck improves), it can help us decide where to place our next city. Then we can grab archery quickly. I'd also like to improve our luxury source ASAP.

I think you're right about building the settler.

Agreed.

Any thoughts or opinions on where we should be going with this game, Eric? To you agree or disagree with what we've discussed, or do you have your own opinions on what we should do? I'm open to suggestions.

I agree. Timing the settler with BW is an excellent idea. I'm just a little paranoid without archers. :shifty:

I also agree on getting those luxes improved soon. I'd like to get all three of our cities up and growing which is going to need those luxes.

Edit: I'm rather surprised to say that we managed to dry our MBP out and its back up and running again. It spent one day in front of the dehumidifier and then two or three days in our gas oven and no, it wasn't turned on. When I opened the lid today and turned it on it booted up without any issues other then complaining about being shut off incorrectly. Shocking. We didn't expect it to work after that.
