Mac Modding Index

Thought I'd point out the Immigration Mod seems to work (no crashes the first few turns, I'll play a proper game with it and update this if necessary), and is compatible with Blue Marble.

Here's a link to it:

Seems pretty cool, not sure why immigration has never been a part of any civ game I know of- it has certainly been a major factor in human social evolution.

The Real Epic mod by Shadowlord also seems to work, and is compatible with BlueMarble on Warlords 2.13.

I really like this mod so far- I think technologies are researched far too quickly, especially towards the end of the game. I always have played marathon with tech-trading off to compensate, and generally end at ~1900-1950 on Emperor, but I hate having to switch off tech trading, it's so unrealistic then. Without switching it off, I'd be building a space-elevator at 1550 AD?!?

Now all I need to figure out is how to merge Immigration and Real Epic... my first attempt last night was a failure...

I tried Battle of Hastings on Warlords but I can't even see a line of text or a word. After a moment, it crashes. Any clue ?

The last version of the Mod and running on a Mac with a multilanguage version of Civ4 and Warlords.

The language of my Mac is french.

Wandering here and there, I finally understood the problem of language. Thanks to confirm it.

I made a test : I copy/paste your english quotes in the other languages tags and it worked better.

As we cry after mods Macintosh compatible, we should more than anyone write our mods in a way we can really play them even we are guilty to be not english mothertongue with an english keyboard. Don't you agree ?

i somewhat agree, but i for me that means hours of copying and pasting to and from google, in a language i am unfamiliar with. any longer texts would be completley out of context and full of errors

Perhaps an acceptable compromise would be to replicate the existing english text into the supported languages? Although it's not brilliant for players whose first language is not english it would at least allow them to use your mod. If they're using CFC then they probably have at least a basic knowledge of english. Perhaps some of these players might even volunteer to translate some of the text if they like the mod. :dunno:

EDIT:

I missed this post which is essentially saying the same thing.

Yes : I know ... :crazyeye: Hours of copying/pasting inside tags, whatever the language is such a long long way ! But it could be interesting to make for Mac users ( and other players of course ) a kind of Mod database which we know to be really OK whatever language and whatever platform we play ...

 You are right : better to fill the "foreign" languages tags with english quotes than nothing ! At least, it's playable :)

It is a fact than filling tags with language we don't speak is a long long long way and will be quite certainly full of errors :( Anyway, it's a fact too than here on CFC, we all speak a minima of english ... Don't we ? ;)

But i think that if you are going to have it english only, then you could go without the data tags and use what is in the unitinfos.xml (for example) ;)

Hopefully the quote at the top explains the benefit of providing the tags for other languages even if the actual text is english. ;) Otherwise players need to change the language in which they run the game. However in the end it's your mod and your decision.

I agree. I dislike the idea of truncating the languages tags. As you say, languages tags are a real benefit. Player is less lost if he wishes to fill himself some tags in its own language.

I just dl a mod where all other tags than english were missing. Restore what is basic in game is just ... silly ! And loosing the goal than many players don't play the game in english is getting a bit on my nerves ... :gripe:

Do you think Chiyu's Extra works for Mac Civ4BTS 3.17 ?

Extra has a 3.17 version and a 3.19 version...

It seems its purely adding stuff because no scripts or dlls...

Anybody can test it ?

I cant have my mac before ending august...

Trying to get the Canada Mod to run on my Mac version of CivIV vanilla.
problems with text and xml files...

has anyone had any luck running this mod?

thanks

Check out my posts in this thread. They are a bit old, but the fixes there are probably still relevant.
