can someone make some mac senarios for an iMac OS 9 or lower? most of these files i find are either PC or require OS X.

also..off topic but i real the FAQ but i still dont see where i add an avatar.

You don't need MacOS 9-specific scenarios, you just need scenario files that you can add to your Mac installation. If you have found something that will work with OS X then it should be possible to install it in OS 9. If you let me know where it is I can extract the files for you and give you instructions on how to set it up on your iMac.

The Games of the Month since #20 are played using mod file sets that work with version 1.29 and so you can install them. Other than that, what sort of scenarios are you looking for? I think Frunobulax is around here somewhere furiously building a mod pack that will work with a Mac. Building them is not trivial, though :)

You can set an Avatr by going to "user cp" at the top of this page, then clicking the "user options" button at the top of that page. Then scroll to the bottom of the user settings options and you should see one to set your Avatar. Until you have 300 posts to your name you can only choose one of the standard set, but there are lots of those. Have fun!

i liked the rise of Rome scenario i found in your library thing but when i downloaded it i ended up with a bunch of mpg looking files and it didnt do anything. i was surprised they didnt have any built in games like in civ 2.

Well, first off, nice of you to think so, but none of this is mine. I'm just a punter around here like most everyone else :)

I went to this page, which seems likely to be your reference for the Rise of Rome scenario.

I downloaded the link there to riserome_12.zip, which is the scenario download file, compressed as a .zip file.

It unzipped on my OS X system to produce a folder called "riserome_12 Folder". That contained two files. One is a readme with text just like the above post. The second is called "Rise_Rome_12.bic", which is a CivIII BIC file used to define a scenario. I placed that file in my standard CivIII version 1.29b2 Scenarios folder (it already contains two Earth scenarios that I think came with the CivIII factory install). I launched CivIII and selected Load Scenario, and chose Rise_Rome_12.bic, and it opened and ran, showing several cities on an Italy-shaped area of land at 4000 BC.

In other words, it sees to work fine here. So it sounds like you have a problem with your copy of Stuffit Expander if it is producing mpg files, or else you are looking at the wrong place on your hard drive. I don't believe any of what I did is special to OS X, and it should all work the same on your system.

Hope this helps ;)

it still did that same thing. i got the folder and inside it had an army folder and a leader folder. inside were a bunch of things i couldnt open. the files end with ivi and wav and everything but that bit or whatever. i think its cause i have OS 9

Sorry, that makes no sense. There are only two files inside the file that I linked to when it's unzipped. You can't get a different set of files out of a zip file just by unzipping it on OS 9. Either you are looking at the wrong unzipped folder or you are downloading the wrong file.

[EDIT] I just went back to the post, and there's a second link there called Leader_Army.zip. Now I think I see your problem. The riserome.zip file is the main scenario, and this additional file is an add-on to fix a naming bug in teh mod that will only hit in the middle ages, I think.

Leader_Army.zip downloads to produce two folders called LEADER and ARMY. Thos two folders look like Art/Units add-ons that you need when you run the scanario. You just need to put those into your Art/Units folder before you run the scenario as I described. The instructions are not clear, but I would suggest you add THE CONTENTS OF the downloaded ARMY folder into the existing Art/Units/Army folder in your installation, and drop the whole downloaded LEADER folder into Art/Units.

Dojoboy. If you can read this, please clear you PM box. I appear to have filled it up and I can't send you the latest info you requested.

Still blocking :( You might have to clear most in, out and copies of sent mail before it will let me send again - I had this problem a month or so back. Alternatively, if you can send PM, drop me your email address ...

Does anyone have a WWII scenario that will work with civIII (edited originally said civ2 which changes the meaning of the message!) for the mac? I have downloaded and tried all the ones available in the downloads forum and none of them will load into the mac version of civIII.
Civ 2 came with a wonderful WWII scenario, I still play it, shame they didnt bundle some scenarios with the gold edition.

Civ2 games will not run in Civ3, totally different pieces of software.

I confess I assumed your original post really meant Civ3 ;), so I went to this WW2 scenario thread and downloaded the .bic file and the units folder, and I followed the link to download the hitler2 leaderhead. I set up a clean copy of Civ3 version 1.29. I used my new alpha installer to copy all the units in the units download into the Art/units folder, and to load up the leaderhead files. I then copied the .bic file into scenarios. Installation complete. The installer is not essential to the plot, but this is a free plug, and it makes the process much easier.

I launched the Civ3 application, double clicked Load Scenario, and selected the "naziMod V.3.0.bic" file. It failed with a pediaIcons.txt file entry missing error. I noted the entry, which was "TECH_Amphibious_War", let Civ3 finish quitting, and opened pediaIcons.txt. Bingo! There was a line containing "TECH_Amphibious_Warfare". So I deleted the "fare", saved the file, and tried again. Civ3 now loaded up, I went through the game setup options, and arrived at a start screen with a Colonist instead of a Settler.

I haven't tried playing the game, but at least it loaded.

Hope this helps.

Dear AlanH,

I'm coming (a bit late, maybe) to scenarios, etc.
I downloaded yr installer from yr post in another thread and some GOTM "readers" (or whatever you called them) from the same post.
...but it seems not working for me!
After unzipping everything, if I start the installer or drop the other files on it, it seems that nothing happens.
Actually, in the dock I get the icon of the installer "running" but nothing else is going on.

Is there a catch?

I've OSX.2.8 and CivIII patched to 1.29fB2

Thanks for your comprehension (too much late night time spent playing probably killed too many neurons up there)

@Startaff: Thanks for trying the installer, sorry it hasn't worked for you .... yet.

I'm not sure which "GOTM Readers" you are referring to. You are obviously trying to use my drag and drop installer, and if you launch that you should see a window containing a list of your existing Civ3 installation locations.

If you *can* see your installation location in the list then you should be able to drop a mod file set onto that item in the window, (not onto the application in the Finder) to add the mod to Civ3.

If you don't see any Civ3 installations in the window then either they were installed too recently to be registered in the "locate" database, or they don't contain an application file called "Civilization III".

If they were installed very recently then you should be able to drop the one you want to mod onto the window to insert it into the list.

Mod file sets may be zipped or unzipped. In their unzipped state they must contain at least a "Text" folder and/or an "Art" folder.

I have created one file set for use with this installer. It is the GOTM23 full set to allow users to create a gotm23-capable installation. Other file sets that I know you should be able to use with it are the GOTM24 and GOTM25 zip files provided by Cracker for those games, Snoopy's Terrain mod, and the WWII mod that I referred to above.

If the above doesn't work for you then I need more specific information about whay you see in the window when you launch the installer, what exactly you have tried to do, with what file sets, and what exactly was the result.

Remember, this is an alpha version, and my instructions may also have been unclear, so it would be surprising if it worked first time for everyone ;)

Dear Alan,

I'm afraid I'm a bit "behind" in the process described by you...

Fact is: when I unzipped the Installer file it created "something" (a program file, I suppose) with an icon resembling a folder with the blue CivFanatics "world" on it.

Well, this thing does nothing but - as I said - starting "an installer".
No windows open, nothing moving. Only thing: I get the "installer" icon in the dock.
Same (nothing) happens if I drop GOTM Installers (which I named "readers" in my previous post, sorry) files on it.

I got 10.2.8 and CivIII US version patched to 1.29f

Any clues?

Ciao

Hi Startaff

The folder-with-a-world icon is the GOTM Installer application, and if you double click it, it should open and display a window. I can't think of any reason why it would not open its window after it launches. Does it display a menu, including "About GOTM Installer", "Quit GOTM Installer" etc?

Maybe there's a localization problem if you have an Italian OS? I'll investigate.

Absolutely NO reaction (nor window) at all!
And I have US spec OS (I regularly download upgrades from Apple main site)
Yesterday night I tried again to make it react, either clicking on it or dragging a GOTM Installer file on it: nothing but - as said - the (generic) "installer on" icon in the dock.

By the way, these days I'm experiencing a very annoying (to say the least) problem: my copy of Stuffit Expander has gone crazy and it freezes my Mac (I can't even "force quit" it, I must shut up via on/off button!) whenever I tried to start it or even just open its folder! It does not accept to be trashed (or, better, it IS in the trash now but the trash does not empties of it) and it does not accept a super-installation of another copy.
Don't know if these probs are related but the latter is VERY annoying (as I can't expand any .sit file I'm downloading.
Any suggestion about this?

1000 thanks and ciao
