MacBook Pro Retina crashes constantly...

I am experiencing the same issues. I've been trying to play Civ on my MBP Retina with 16GB ram and I've had 10 crashes so far in as many tries. Tried basically all resolutions and it does seem like the game crashes less with lower resolution. The annoying thing is that even on the highest resolution and highest detail settings the game runs beautifully and fast - until it crashes that is.

I am currently playing Polynesia, quick, small terra map. Have to save every 3 turns to get anywhere.

Also, when playing on battery the game crashes even faster, and the battery life is a joke. I get 6 hours battery life when using normal apps/watching movies etc, but with Civ battery life goes down to 1h30mins. I guess no more playing Civ on long haul flights :-(

Does anyone have any recommended settings to avoid crashes?

YES!! I've been playing a game now for over 100 turns without a single crash!!

The MOST important thing to do is to change option to use the Small Scale Interface. Once I did that, I stopped experiencing crashes and the game looked SIGNIFICANTLY better. Well, the UI still looked blurry, but the game board is now crystal clear.

Attached are my option screens.

Thanks, I tried this and the game was running (very slowly).

I cannot even start or resume a game without crashing. It has pissed me off so bad. Then you try new settings, they don't take effect until reopening, and you go through all the logos and loading over again.

If anyone has another setting that works can you please post? I don't mind running the game at a low res as long as it MOVES and SOME video options are at least "medium."

I used to run Civ V G&K fine on my old Core Duo MBP...

Now I got an i7 MBP with retina, no matter what setting i use constant crashing.

even low low etc.

There must be something going on on the game end cause I didnt even have to run it this low on my old machine - and it ran not crash.

Please help.

I am free to do any testing needed.

2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (2 4 GB sticks)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB graphics (running at 2880 x 1800)
512 gig SSD HD
Software OS X 10.8.2

I have a non-retina mbp 15 that I just bought, and it runs the game even worse than a mbp 13.

The 15 is a 2.6 GHZ i7 with 8 GB memory and the Nvidia Geforce GT 650M with 1 GB dedicated VRAM/intel HD 4000.

The 13 is a 2.9 GHZ i7 (only dual core) with 8 GB memory with only the intel HD 4000.

I can run the 13 on all high settings at native resolution and I only get crawling bugs on the leader screen. No crash, no nothing.

I can't run the 15 without crashing! And when it doesn't crash, it's all jittery! The 13 is smooth as can be! WTH?

I bootcamped my 2012 15" MBP (non-retina). What a difference.

But I found a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 today that turned my head, and for about $850 less than the MBP with better performance specs, I pulled the trigger. Returning the MBP to Apple.

Interesting that once again we're having issues with a Mac w/nVidia GPU.

I love it how ignorant Aspyr has been in this subject.
The game has been like this since late august and its november soon.

I'm not a happy customer.

Well, it's an issue only with certain hardware. The game runs fine on my (3.5 year old) Mac, so it's not the game, just interactions with certain drivers. nVidia once again.

Hey all,

Noobie here, not sure if this thread is dead or not. I was wondering if there was a solution to this problem or not. I am running a non RD MBP 13inch mid 2010 model with 4GB ram. I am hoping to purchase a MBPwRD and am doing so hoping to have an awesome Civ V experience. My current macbook runs all Civ V settings at lowest quality and even when I play a tiny map in quick speed on king with no barbarians, quick movements, quick combat and no city states with just one AI my computer is dying by turn 3. So not to rant, but I am wondering if its the same for you guys, than why should I update? Hoping for good news here before I make the commitment!

Thanks and sorry for the paragraph!
