Still I think my comparison trumps your vague "regulation in moderation" statement. Broad brush indeeed :humph:
The bottom line is the US is capitalist first, and protectionist only when it benefits one of the nation's high priorities. Getting hyped up about touristy t-shirts, because they're made in some country that is more or less a banana republic is still quasi-silly in my book. Sure the USA lost textile jobs for that reason, but there's plenty of cheap goods at Walmarts by the same cause. If you're going to get protectionist, get protectionist about something that is part of US strategy, such as steel, electronics, automobiles, not chintz.
