Make carriers require iron?

Steel isn't used later in the game, but I thought a good idea to limit the number of carriers would be to make them use steel. This would limit carriers in the game to just a few per country, since even in real life they are mostly rare.

I think you mean Iron.

I always did think it was a bit silly iron and horses become useless late game. In fact.. I think it's silly horses are even considered a strategic resource. Should be bronze, steel, copper, something..

If the game core would allow more than one ressource requirement for a unit or building, it would be no problem to make iron more useful in the later game.

But I think these strategic ressources represent valuable ressources (only) in these periods of time they come into play through tech research. That's why e.g. tanks don't require steel/iron anymore.

A carrier without planes doesn't have much value, so carriers are inherently limited by our aluminum supply.

In the past I considered adding iron/horse resource requirements to some buildings... possibly by adding new structures in the late game. The idea had mixed feedback so I dropped it. I'd be okay with considering the idea again.

Moderator Action: Moved to the main forum and fixed the title.

In general, if you want to have something done which you can't do on your own (e.g. changing thread titles), or if you see a violation of the forum rules (e.g. commercial spam), then don't hesitate to notify the moderators about it. You can just use the "report post" function (the
report.gif
button to the left of each post) to do that.

I'm all for more buildings/wonders.

Civ5/VEM has too little, NIGHTS has too many.

I think a mixture in between would be nice.

:goodjob:

I do agree that more policies with interesting effects and the associated tough decisions to be made choosing between them, is a good thing for VE to emulate.

And a few more resources for flavor and flexibility would not hurt my feelings, either. :D

You have to be a bit careful when you add loads of stuff though - small changes additively can compound to throw things off balance, generally by accelerating one or more yields far beyond standard game pace.

Agreed, but by the time you can build carriers, all your resources that required iron now require oil or aluminum.
