I woke up this morning to find my kids (aged 3 and 4) sliding my conquest disc and a few more games across my kitchen floor. I really want to make a back-up copy now. However, I have been quite unsuccessful doing this.

In the documentation, the read me file, it states " 2. You may make and maintain one copy of the Software for backup and archival purposes, provided that the original and copy of the Software are kept in your possession."

I have nero 6 ultra edition. I have burned it by drag and drop (from the original cd to the cd-r), I have tried copying the entire contents of the original to my hard drive and burning, I have made an ISO image and burning, I have tried a entire disc copy. All have been unsuccessful.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

1st only a cd copy could work.
2nd if nero won't do (would surprise me) try a copy of clone CD - the one from elby not the new one - I think there is/was a demo version with just 1x writing available, but that should not be such a problem for your one time use. Just browse the web.

You'd think, given the EULA stating that a backup copy can be made, they'd have some way to make the backup copy. Of course, if they did that it would be too easy to pirate.

That's the problem with situations like this. When does it become piracy? You have the right that's granted by the EULA to make a backup, then they make it impossible to backup. One wonders if it's there for your sake in case you're found with a burned copy of it...doesn't make much sense, does it?

Believe you me I have considered it. My 4 year old is the good one. He never gets into anything. However my devil, I mean daughter (3), gets into everything, I have to lock all the desk chairs and bar stools for my kitchen island up at night. My dining room chairs are tarp strapped to the table. I must do a sweep of the house at night to make sure nothing is out that can be used as a climbing device. I have tried double gating her .. but alas she escapes.

 Hey do you think chaining her to the bed would be abuse. :D

give her some fake plastic cds to play with (the ones you get when you buy a pack of 50 or so blank cds).

Like Turner said, you are allowed to make a backup copy. Unfortunately, the only way you can do that is by using piracy-type tools. :crazyeye:

No one here will look askance on you if you do make a backup, but don't discuss the tools used, including where to get them or how to use them, on this site. ;)

Believe me, I dont want to do it "illegally". I just wanted to make a backup copy. So I could safely store the original. I guess I will just have to suck it up and buy it again if it gets damaged.

-i use Daemon Tools. it's an app that reads an ISO and pretends to be an actual drive in your machine. if you're already able to make an image of a CD then you're good to go. just point Daemon to the ISO and it'll load it like normal.

-i like it cos it means i can keep my originals safe and don't have to swap discs in and out all the time. :)

I also reccomend Daemon. I usred it a while back in fact to help me keep a backup of Civ3. Tends to work good. I also think that it has an option to allow you to burn the cd rather than always keeping it on your harddrive. Cant remember though.
