Making peace with the Sidar (new feature or glitch)

In my last game I destroyed the Sidar civilization. I even got the message "The Sidar civilization has been destroyed" but I noticed they were still listed on the civ list in the lower right of the screen. The next turn I made peace with them and they finally vanished giving me "The Sidar civilization has been destroyed" message again. I'm sure it was a glitch but it seemed kind of cool considering the civilization. It was like I had to make peace with the dead before they could move on. It would have sucked if they refused and I was stuck with war weariness for the rest of the game.

In case you wondered what caused it, the Sidar evidently owned some equipment, so they "stuck around" until someone captured the item they had dropped.

Ah, I was wondering what that was about, because I had exactly the same problem in one of my recent games. Good to know what causes this, since it's quite odd destroying a civ and not having it die as it should.
