Hi,

I like most of the changes and newly added features I heard about Civ5 , however, I am more concern on a number of game mechanism modified sillily (spoiled) by previous (particularly Civ4) game designer:

1. What happen to wonder race in Civ5, is it exactly like Civ4?
a) Can I switch production?
b) What happen to the losers's production when someone complete a wonder?
c) What happen when I occupied an opponent's city with great wonder (which is still not obselete)?

2. What about gainning tech? Since there won't be tech trade and spy, so there left two ways to gain a tech: you either research a tech or get it via a goodie hut, right? Is there any other way to gain a tech in Civ5? I mean is there any chance I can grab a tech from my opponents by force?

3. What happen when I take over a city? Is the situation the same as in Civ4 or even worse?
a) How many population decrease? (after a city is taken by me)
b) Will I still need to face all the crying (angry) faces in a newly occupied city?
c) How about the occupied city's radious immediately after I took over. Is it still one tile and need a few turns to expand?

4. How far can I move on a railroad?

5. Is Airport available and still functions like Civ4? Is the restriction still there in Civ5, where you can only airlift one unit each turn per airport?

6. Is there a counter to tell me total no. of cities in my empire and the opponent's?

7. Is there still chop forest (production) bonus in Civ5? (how many time can I chop forest at the same spot?)

8. Is the role of fort which act like a city (for air and navy unit to stop by) still remain the same? Is there any changes to fort function? I mean can I build a row of forts to form a channel for ships?

Btw, I know there won't be terraforming in Civ5 (example convert a land tile to water). Is it possible to create a mod of Civ5 to implement terraforming system, one which let player performs terraforming easilly (which take relatively few turns). If it is possible, will it be easy to do so?

Some of these have been ansered.

I think it's probably ok if there are a few things we don't know til we play in a few days. :)

I'm still wanting to know if great people points are global or per city. I'm guessing global, which changes how I view specialists (makes them more attractive, IMO).

Hi,

I like most of the changes and newly added features I heard about Civ5 , however, I am more concern on a number of game mechanism modified sillily (spoiled) by previous (particularly Civ4) game designer:

1. What happen to wonder race in Civ5, is it exactly like Civ4? probably
a) Can I switch production? yes
b) What happen to the losers's production when someone complete a wonder? converted into gold
c) What happen when I occupied an opponent's city with great wonder (which is still not obselete)? obsolete or not you get to keep the wonder - assuming here but logical

2. What about gainning tech? Since there won't be tech trade and spy, so there left two ways to gain a tech: you either research a tech or get it via a goodie hut, right? Is there any other way to gain a tech in Civ5? I mean is there any chance I can grab a tech from my opponents by force? look for "research pact" for the other way to get techs. I'm not sure, for prince+ levels, whether you still get tech from ruins

3. What happen when I take over a city? Is the situation the same as in Civ4 or even worse? worse if you annex; so-so if you convert them into a puppet city
a) How many population decrease? (after a city is taken by me) don't know and really does make that much of a difference IMO
b) Will I still need to face all the crying (angry) faces in a newly occupied city? Happy works differently, once you learn how happy works you will know the answer to this question
c) How about the occupied city's radious immediately after I took over. Is it still one tile and need a few turns to expand? All indications point to cities retaining their influence

4. How far can I move on a railroad? far

5. Is Airport available and still functions like Civ4? Is the restriction still there in Civ5, where you can only airlift one unit each turn per airport? not available

6. Is there a counter to tell me total no. of cities in my empire and the opponent's? yes; maybe but probably not

7. Is there still chop forest (production) bonus in Civ5? (how many time can I chop forest at the same spot?) minimal; you can only chop once...

8. Is the role of fort which act like a city (for air and navy unit to stop by) still remain the same? Is there any changes to fort function? I mean can I build a row of forts to form a channel for ships? don't know about air/navy

Btw, I know there won't be terraforming in Civ5 (example convert a land tile to water). Is it possible to create a mod of Civ5 to implement terraforming system, one which let player performs terraforming easilly (which take relatively few turns). If it is possible, will it be easy to do so? asking whether something is easy is generally a wasted question since everyone has a different opinion of easy. modding in general - especially changing game mechanics - is not easy for most people

I think what he means by this is: can he switch production he spent on one wonder onto a different wonder instead.
To which I think the answer is no.

Also: nothing suggests that Wonders ever become obsolete.

Hi,

Probably the same as Civ 4. But we won't know for sure until it's released.

2. What about gainning tech? Since there won't be tech trade and spy, so there left two ways to gain a tech: you either research a tech or get it via a goodie hut, right? Is there any other way to gain a tech in Civ5? I mean is there any chance I can grab a tech from my opponents by force?

Research agreement. You and another player pay a lump sum of gold and in 15 (iirc) turns later you both get a tech.

3. What happen when I take over a city? Is the situation the same as in Civ4 or even worse?
a) How many population decrease? (after a city is taken by me)

Don't know, possibly none.

b) Will I still need to face all the crying (angry) faces in a newly occupied city?

lots of  faces if you annex it, until you build a courthouse. Less  if you make a puppet state, but you don't control it.

c) How about the occupied city's radious immediately after I took over. Is it still one tile and need a few turns to expand?

I believe you keep the tiles it controlled.

4. How far can I move on a railroad?

5. Is Airport available and still functions like Civ4? Is the restriction still there in Civ5, where you can only airlift one unit each turn per airport?

Can't know until the release date.

6. Is there a counter to tell me total no. of cities in my empire and the opponent's?

Probably.

7. Is there still chop forest (production) bonus in Civ5? (how many time can I chop forest at the same spot?)

You can chop trees at mining. If trees regrow an infinite number of times on a tile, there's no reason that you cant chop them an infinite number of times.

8. Is the role of fort which act like a city (for air and navy unit to stop by) still remain the same? Is there any changes to fort function? I mean can I build a row of forts to form a channel for ships?

I doubt it, and it would be a pointless exercise.

Btw, I know there won't be terraforming in Civ5 (example convert a land tile to water). Is it possible to create a mod of Civ5 to implement terraforming system, one which let player performs terraforming easilly (which take relatively few turns). If it is possible, will it be easy to do so?

if you know what you're doing you can make a mod that enables whatever you like.

Check Arioch's site for more info.

8. I don't believe so, I think we have had the information on forts confirmed to just be +25% defence (or +50), nothing more.

As for everything else, someone else covered it.

Hope we have been of help.

Oh, as for railroad's, I don't think we covered how much they benefit movement, but, they cost 2 maintenance each (each hex with railroad improvement) and the hex gets +1 production yield too.

Yah, I don't think 2k/Firaxis will be giving us any more information on the game. Guess we're going to have to wait V days.

Huh?
Are you sure that its not just that the city gets +x production if its connected to the capital via railroads?

Personally I am pretty sure that this is the case as opposed to the former.
