Creation is a pretty cool script. It generates valleys surrounded by peaks on all sides with a few one tile chokepoints between them. From what I've played, the location based tactical decisions are emphasized in this script more than most others. Each valley has it's own unique climate, ours looks like it's quite wet with all the grass and jungle. I'm guessing that our valley is surrounded by a U-shaped mountain range with one to two gates to the south. It looks like we're at the top of our continent, so we're likely on the bottom half of the map.
I'm not sure where to settle. The Bloodpet space the picture is centered on has clams, corn, ivory and gems in its BFC, but too much jungle. I think some scouting to the south might be necessary. I also kinda like one tile right of the settler.
I'm usually a Prince level player to be honest. Hopefully having others watch my play will allow my game to improve.
I'm still accepting entrants if anyone else wants to join. Best to PM me with your selection of leader as some unclaimed leaders are out of bounds now as they are our opponents.
@slowcar - that would be fine. I'll have to get the save fixed up, will be tonight.
@Ralph - yep start discussing away. To throw something in the mix that's not in the starting screenshot and I only noticed while I was dong the starting saves (about the time I realised I gave Cardith Loda a bloodpet to start with), Ydrassigal (sp?) is visible just to the south.
For those unfamiliar with the Creation mapscript, it is a large map for its size and is made up of valleys seperated by mountains, usually on 2-3 islands. It can be pretty crowded in some games and very empty in others. Exploration and scouting are very important and watch out for barbarians.
Starting saves are attached (except for slowcar's which I'll put up later).
Remember to report at least every 50 turns (ie don't ply for more than 50 turns per report, less is OK).
Try to start with an explanation of how you intend to play the game, how you intend to win (doesn't mean you have to win that way) and how you intend to use your leader to further your goals.
Reports in spoilers.
Try to put as many screenshots as possible.
Report as often or as irregularly as you like, no deadlines.
Try and look at everyone else's game as well, ask questions, make suggestions, laugh at the orcs.
It's an OK starting position. Too much jungle for my liking but post-jungle is fantastic, which is a problem for the poor Orcs and their no research. I'll definately head south and see what is around the Yggrasdil.
I'm planning on winning a Culture game, which is not commonly done. I've only ever had one win (back when I played Noble!) so I might not win, in which case I'll try and go for conquest.
I'll try going down the mounted tech line (for centaurs). Centaurs are like normal mounted units, but have a spell which gives them a temporary -1 strength and extra movement point.
I'll need to get Elementalism to burn down the jungle, as well as spring to protect my forests.
The Bannor are all about one thing: law. They will relentlessy force anyone to repent who doesn't acknowledge the rule of law. Therefore the strategy that fits them well from a lore point as well as from gameplay is a warmongering civ with the Order as Religion. Therefore I'll try to found the Order and get the two powerful heroes the religion opens up: Valin Phanuel (who is just as deadly as Rosier the Fallen, only on the good side) and Sphener. And of course I will use Paladins along with my heroes to bring law to the outlaws...Sabathiel as leader is a perfect choice for that, he is Organized/Charismatic, which fits well with big empires and having a elite high XP army. The character of Sabathiel is interesting from the standpoint of lore also - after all he is an angel in the service of Junil leading the humans in his war for the rule of law and against the evils of the world...There is a quote I always loved about him: "While humans had to stumble through their choices, hoping the one they made was the best possible, the angel simply knew."
The game start is nice, but not too promising for the early stages. Lots of djungle make the terrain rather useless, and djungle can be cleared only with the Sanitation tech, which comes rather late and is not too cheap in beakers. Therefore I will use the magic approach to djungle clearing: Fire wielding Adepts. As we have a source of mana nearby and Knowledge of the Ether/Elementalism are needed techs anyway down the road, it is much quicker than waiting for Sanitation. As for the Victory I'm planning on a Conquest Victory by vassalizing all my opponents, as this fits into the Rule of Law theme inherent to the Bannor. I'll try to summon the Mercurians into the game too as the tech that allows Donal Lugh, the Bannor Hero, also opens up the Mercurian Gate. So, off we go... I played 100 turns for the first set as FfH games are slow to start, all the more on Epic Speed...
I move the scout on the watch tower on the hill. The increased visibilty shows only more djungle, nothing worth moving for. So my capital goes to the spot that sprang to my mind when I first saw the starting position...
Fish and Corn, some hills, and gems - perfect. Of course the djungle is not nice, but I think this is the best spot available. I'll plant my second city at the Yggdrasil later. Now my opening tech path is shaped towards getting the Order, which comes with Orders from Heaven. Luckily the key techs are needed ones anyway, so the path is not diverging that much like if you go for the Veil. I start out with Agriculture as I want to farm every possible tile in my capital first for max growth and quicker Settlers/Workers. My next techs will be Ancient Chants and Education, and then I will cottage my capital for teching faster.
The scout runs into the first opponent - Garrim Gyr of the Luchuirp.
Well, at least a leader with good alignment and not too trigger happy. Definitely better than having Tebryn or Os-Gabella on the doorstep. The Luchuirp are right to the south.
And we meet the next Civ - The Elohim led by Ethne the White.
Another neighbor you can live with easier than with most. The Elohim are to the East.
My scout avoids the Griffon, but runs into a giant spider - he has found his last home by the Tomb of Sucellus.
Agriculture is in. Start farming.
And the next opponent, this time a real enemy. The Illians are an unpleasant neighbor, and it seems the map is rather close packed. War is inevitable, but that was my choice from turn 1 on anyway. But I will not go for a rush, but found the Order first - after all bring law is the only justification for our war effort here.
We are mediocre in culture, for what it's worth.
And the Doviello are in the game and have some fun already. I can also see Lanun borders to my West, and the birth of an Adventurer means the Grigori are in the game also...
Here is my 2nd city. Total junk before I can clear the djungle, afterwards it will be a commerce powerhouse.
Get a nice event, unfortunately not on the seafood itself.
One of the key techs for the early stages of FfH comes in. I start cottaging now, as I have enough food at my capital to work the cottages immediately. As I have picked up ancient Chants too already I start research on Mysticism.
And those were the first 100. I think I'm in good shape, and as soon as the cottages come online and mature I'll get my needed techs and start my crusade...
Much of the Amurites strength has been spent in the final war against Malcurn. Now Dain the Caswallawn will lead the Amurites on their quest to regain the lost magical secrets of Kylorin. The Tower of Mastery will be built, with the Magics of other nations exploited through vassalage or conquest. Dain's lust for knowledge will contribute to a strong pool of Great People to further the Sage's magical studies.
Chose this location to get use from the extra hill. Also wanted the mana node in Cevedes radius.
Second village so far to share their knowledge of the country side.
Ancient ruins with an evil aura have been successfully destroyed.
Another village visited, and impressed enough by our kingdom to donate some dough.
First opponent met. He does not like us very much.
These guys look to be much friendlier.
The first tech I targeted is complete. This will allow me to employ a Sage to increase my research and eventually give me a great sage to construct an academy.
After 50 turns, Mysticism is in the bag, Dain is Worshiped as a God King , and Knowledge of Ether is on the way. Looking good.
OK. Here we go. First my goals. As Tebryn, they are quite obvious. There is no place for good in this world and thus it will be crushed. I am going for Ashen Veil and will try to summon Hyborem. To imitate Imhotep, i will try to get Rosier and Mardero. And if the Bannor are in the game I make sure hte will be not anymore My goal is to get AC AHAP. My victory option is easy, Domination Victory. Or try to make Hyborem to win it. Though, the goals can change.
And so it starts. Lovely (in fact ugly) city of Galveholm si founded. The spot seem very nice to me. And will becam better with burnt jungle. (Sorry for later screen)
Not much had happend in first 50 turn. First The tomb of Succelus is found, then we met Garrim Gyr and discover Auric‘s land.
Auric’s borders can be see on the left side.
This spot looks nice to me and will close my valley. One square right is is the right place for my city.
Last event is our first tech, Mysticism is it.
The Agricukture is being researched now.
So far I trained 3 warriors. Elder council building now, then settler.
That‘s all for now.
I can't seem to get it running. When I try and load it, the game crashes and tells me "failed to uncompress game data". I can't even get a screenie to show the message because it CTD's so fast. Any ideas? Trying to load other saves I downloaded failed too.
As Tasunke, my plan is to aim for a conquest victory. Being Aggressive and Raiders, Tasunke is possibly the best warmonger in the game. The Hippus are set up to go for mounted warfare, and their unique unit comes at Currency, the Mounted Mercenary.
Short term goals: Education and hopefully a Warrior rush one of my hapless neighbors.
Long term goals: Currency first for the Guild of the Nine is a must, so I can get my unique unit asap. Bronze and then Iron weapons will be needed. Runes of Kilmorph religion would be nice, as well as the commerce techs near Currency (Math, Taxation). If I can get my unique unit early enough with a fat enough gold economy to support, my continent shall easily fall. Obviously the Mounted/Trade line is worth pursuing, and thus I might pick up Council of Esus or Empyrean on the way.
I chose the 2-right 1-up location to settle the glorious Hippus capital, Altheriol-ta-Mealthiel because of the number of resources in the big fat cross.
It looks like I might need to get Sanitation to clear all the jungle, which is a little bit out of the way from what my ideal path would be.
Begin on Ancient Chants and a Warrior. Send starting Scour and Warrior out to explore.
Friendly villagers give us two maps and...
We have three other civs close by...
A couple of worthless events....
We finish a Warrior and Ancient Chants, begin on a Worker because the capitol hit 3 pop, start on Education.
Run out of places to scout, finding our three neighbors blocking our way. Our Warrior goes down to a Giant Spider laying in Ambush back by our homeland. Apparently the Grigori are in the game because an Adventurer is born somewhere.
Damn Goblins polluting my lands! Fortunately our court adept was proficient in purification magic, and was dispatched to the scene of the crimes.
Our worker finishes being built and builds a farm. At the end of 50 turns, we are doing ok so far.
i get an error opening any of the saves, something like "failed to decompress data" (and civ crashing afterwards most of the time).
i have 0.32l (on vista) and just downloaded creation.py. i can create games using creation.py just fine though.
I decided I'd head for Fellowship of Leaves, because of our forest heavy start, and happiness/health boni for my super cities (Kuriorate cities have a limted number, but can work the third ring).
I decided to found my capital to the south, because I will retain my third ring, get Yggdrasil early, and coastal Kuriorate cities are terrible.
Spoiler:
I also got insanley lucky with my huts, getting Ancient Chants and Crafting for free.
Spoiler:
I met our three closest neighbours, as well as a map of a neighbor, the Lanun. Our neighbors are Auric Ulvin, Ethen the White, and Garrim Gyr.
Spoiler:
In order to take advantage of my three ring cities (I only get three) I'm going to invade Auric Ulvin and take his capital. I am building 15 warriors, since his capital is on a hill.
My research path is heading for Fellowship of Leaves, and I got one free tech, Yggdrasil, so I have a start on any elven civs.
Once I obtain FoL, I'll go for Horseback Riding for defense and taking down any leaders that favour the Ahsen Veil. After that, I'll head for elementailsm, and then Priesthood. (Cult of the Dragons and Bloom)
Yes patch L (the latest patch) is the correct one. You don't need creation mapscript to be able to play. Can you open any of the saves? Can you start a game yourself with patch "L"? Have you got BtS 3.17?
