Many Leaders Game

I took the Alexander save and played till 2000BC. Results are in the spoiler
Spoiler :
As of 2000BC, I have 1 woodsman scout still exploring.
3 promoted Archers due to a whip on a barracks and using overflow for a free archer. 1 Archer is fogbusting, 1 in capitol and another is escorting a settler. I didnt make any warriors. I have 1 worker and am 4 turns from producing another.

I have 99 gold in the bank from a few huts. Capitol is size 5 (max happy) 2 hills are mined, clam and fish are online, and cows are pastured.

The techs I have are:
Fishing
Wheel
Hunting
Mining
Bronze
Animal Hus
Archery
and 1 turn from pottery

HEY! I thought I would play as Alexander!
So now, what?
Well, whatever. Mice, could you please put me a save with Freddy?

Played a quick 50 turns:
Spoiler :
Popped two huts for map and 38gp. Built second city about 2800bc to snag horses. Didn't go for a religion. Techwise started with fishing and mining, researched BW, mysticism, hunting, AH, IW, now sailing. Built workboat early and whipped a lot.
A map (may be a spoiler if you haven't got IW)

Cabledawg, the Alex save is for fbelintani. The idea is one of each leader only . First in first served.

Cabledawg, as you are an experienced player, could you play your turns again as another leader?

Sorry for the confusion.

fbelintani keep going as Alex.

Tatran, your save is on the way.

cool. I thought we might have cross posted then :crazyeye:

so, fbelintaqni ALEX

cabledawg, yet to decide and replay, I hope:)

Tatran, here's Augustus.

Ok, got my turns. Let's see how much Cabledawg was better than me! :)

Spoiler :

:science:
Greece starts with Fishing and Hunting.
I went with Mining -> BW First. Bronze was way too far. Researched Archery just in case and went to Alpha via AH -> Writing. Had to take a detour to Mysticism before Alpha (due in 20-something, depending on the MM on Athens) to get horses. I intend to trade all worker techs back.

:hammers:
MM a little for better timing. :whipped: wasn't that much used. I lost the timing on the Barracks Whip because my civ was acting weird on city screens. :badcomp:
I started to remove some CustomAssets now.

:traderoute:
Founded Sparta for Horses on the hill 2N of it. Will grab the Rice too.
I :scan: for another city location and found a killer one with Bronze, Cows and gold by the river. I just don't know if I can settle there.

I think I timed correctly alpha with my needed worker techs (Wheel and Agri). Sparta borders will pop in about 13 turns from now (after the Monument is chopped). Being Philo, I'll TRY to get the 'mids.

Well, I already see a problem with this thread. :(
The knowledge from other spoilers. Different founding
first city spots, different way in research.
I'll play this one out without looking at the results.
Domination, right?

Tatran, I thought I gave you the wrong save until i realised that you moved your capital VERY far from the start position.

The spoilers dont matter too much I think. The idea is to look at what people did with their starting techs, traits and compare.

Ideally we wait now for all saves to come in before playing on. This minimizes the effect of map knowledge from other saves. One more day.

Futurehermit (where are you?) had the idea of a vote for the best save at the end of each round. I think it's too early to tell in 2000 BC, but we should check out everybodies save out of interest, and then play another 50 turns. At that point it will be clearer who is getting an advantage.

We can have an informal vote for the 'save most likely to result in a scorching victory'.

Victory conditon, why limit it? It could work that after 5 or 6 turnsets we let the game run to any victory that players want, and then they post the final save with a small description of what happened.

BTW, Tatran, how do you get your screenshot that size? Mine are too big.

fbelintani, that great spot you marked out is where Tatran walked his settler to to found Rome !

Nice placement of the horse city. I put mine 1 tile south and missed the rice:blush:
Why?? Better production in the short term I guess, but it's an error I think.

Attempting the 'mids. Hope you get it so we can see an SE.

Tatran: re pre-knowledge of map spoiling game. It's a problem I had in Trash game threads. Solution is a matter of self-discipline; continue your game as you had intended after finishing your set and base decisions purely on info in your game. You can't stop subliminal bias but you can certainly avoid conscious influences.

I don't like coastal starts much. Lack of production +
more city upkeep, because you can only expand one way.

I resize the screenshots from 100X100 to 75X75.

I wanted to see pigswill map after I played to see where he settled. But when he said he got IW, I thought it was better for me to stay out of it. It wouldn't be fair with myself!
@mice: Actually, my spot was 1 tile North of his. He didn't get the gold in Rome's BFC! ;)

Can I ask something? Do you guys think it's worth moving the first settler that much? And Tatran, if you hadn't the spoiler, would you have done the same moving?

fbelintani, you and Pigswill settled the second city in the same spot (and the capital). Good spot. I cant believe I messed that up. The interesting thing for me is the starting techs and how people are using them.

Only me and Cabert/Ramesses are spiritual. I'm going for religion, I wonder if he will too, or just war chariot hell..

Fish and Mining is a great start for Victoria and Hannibal.(Pigswill,Kanga_DU)

Still plenty of leaders available for lurkers who want to jump in.

I've played 150 turns so far, so I don't think the spoilers will
reveal any secrets I don't know yet.

16 turns travelling is something I normally won't do, because
I play raging barbarians at Marathon and they show up at 2200 BC.
I try to settle within 5 turns and at maximum 10 turns and try to
get some stone (Great Wall if not Industrious).

Also, from my Marathon games I prefer to settle on a plains hill.
I'm not really satisfied with the outcome so far (missing resources
in fat cross etc.). Production + rivers was the main goal in settling.

From the other spoilers, everyone settled in place.
Good location for philosophical leaders. Average for
financial leaders. Cottaged rivers are better + some food bonus +
some hills. All the leaders I've seen so far aren't organized and
settling in the far west means a lot of upkeep. I'm curious what
your science rate will be after you've settled that area.
