Sorry for a naive question, but I couldn't fine the answer in other part. I want to play that Gigantic Earth Map given in v28, but it is too big for my laptop and the game keeps crashing. Is there such a Map Editor using that I can cut Americas and some ocean plots from it to make it smaller?

Did you try using the view ports option? It is supposed to make possible to play larger maps. Otherwise the map editor is just world builder which comes with Civ.

Thank you for your answer. No, I have never heard about view ports option. Does it improve performance? :crazyeye: And how do u enable them? I am usually testing different scenarios using AI autoplay, does this option helps in this case too?

No idea, I haven't used it yet. It is described in the FAQ, first post near the bottom. There is also a thread on it somewhere, I suggest using the search thingy and look for "viewports", it is one word.

It improves performance a great deal! It's not a cureall but it certainly allows weaker computers to play on larger maps than they would be able to otherwise!

It'll help against crashing (those blasted MAF errors) and if you're lagging when moving around the map, but unfortunately it won't do anything for turn time length.

So if you're already struggling with just starting a Giant Earth Map game, I'd suggest against trying it even with viewports enabled. You'll be more waiting than playing in the mid to later eras.

I have a RAM of 8Gb... I was able to start Giant Earth Map with no problem, but it was crashing at some point. Does using viewports affect somehow gameplay of AI beyond my sight of view?

No but even on an 8GB ram, you could still end up with graphics crashes because there are simply too many graphical items in use on the graphics card at once. Viewports limits how many items are stored in render memory down to really all you should need at one time. Thus it alleviates the cause of most crashes during very large map games. All that ram would make it more possible to handle the AI processing without issue, despite the AI processing being the lion's share of the processing time.

Yes, the Map Editor need LOT of ressource in C2C, so it's nearly impossible to use it in a big map without viewport.
map Editor REload ALL the map, with ALL ressource and unit in memory... Not really optimized

Viewports does has it's problems but when you get the hang off it how to deal with them then it is really handy and not causing your mid or low tier pc (Old or weak) to have omgwtfbbq i'm outta here basicly just having a crash my pc can handle up to large without Viewports but that's barely and i should look into optimizing the stress i put on my pc as i have a tendency to state well you are a pc of mine HANDLE IT!
