March Patch Notes (formerly february)

As long as the Polynesia DLC comes with natural wonders like Atlantis, the Garden of Eden, Hades and 2K's Common Decency.

Including a "civilization" that some people might not view as influential or cohesive enough for their taste and including fantastical wonders are totally different things.

Except both are being packaged as fundraiser DLCs while the discontented consumers wait patiently for substantive patches that actually address the significant flaws in game mechanics, not the least of which being the AI.

I hope the new patch fixs ALL the road/connection concerns. I'm glad to see hooking up roads to CS's is fixed because this will also fix where even a friendly CS can break your route by expanding over your road. What I'm wondering is if they get the city to harbor thing fixed. If my capital is not coastal, it can't build a harbor, and harbor to harbor connections with other cities don't work. What that means is, if I don't put my capital on the coast, I'll never have harbor connections. I hope that is fixed.

I am not sure that is really broken. I have never had a problem, as long as there is a road connection to a city with a harbor the trade routes seem to connect.

The issue is often that the game engine tends to re-route trade routes without notice for things as simple as another civ's scout using your road.

OK, you made me think about it. Now I can't remember the last time I tried this when I was using some city other than my Capital as connecting with other harbors. This I do know, last night on an Earth map playing Isabella my Capital had a port, a secondary city had a port (I got a connected message when the harbor was built), but connecting a third city to the secondary city port I didn't get a connected trade route notification when it hooked up.

Anyone remembers the patch a few years ago for CIV4? It was delayed for 2 weeks and it was a awfull whining here...

So prepare yourself...

Few things:

  1. It's still February for a few hours.
  2. Even if delayed: I would hope that most of you would prefer a working patch, to a buggy one. Or a more inclusive patch to a more limited one. The only two reasons it would be delayed are bugs or additional fixes, so either way, it's a good thing.

Stop with the damn whining already.

On to Polynesia: Didn't know that was announced. Few things here:
  • No, they aren't "historically important" unless you consider the fact that they settled the pacific using canoes and completed human expansion across the globe. No, not important at all. Course not.
  • Civ has never had any civilization from the Oceania region. Just looking at the civs currently in game, you can see some desire to be more inclusive.
  • They look like they'll be fun, and they are consistently in the most requested civilizations on the 2K forums.

It is natural that people are whining. 2K said that the patch would be out in February. Today is the last day and still no word, this is very unprofessional. If they need to delay it for some reason it's ok, but they should make a simple post explaining that patch is delayed and they will give a new releases date as soon as possible.

Really this is the basic of communication, 2K is getting the whining because they are not able to communicate with their customers, imho.

I don't see how can people complain about DLC. It's optional content. If you don't like it, don't buy it. WTH

The last day is not over yet.... I would expect either the patch or a statement at 5 pm today (PST). Sorry to all the Eurasians and east coasters, but that's probably how it will be.

You may give a chance to the WhatWouldGandhiDo mod :)
I know, it is not the oroginal Firaxis way you criticize...
...I just mention as to perhaps help to make playing civ5 a better experience :)
I'm just not sure how well it works with Thalassicus' mod, without which I don't play at all currently. It's on my radar, though, and it deserves plugging.

Since Firaxis is located on the east coast, I would expect it by 5-6pm at the latest, since they'll want to get it out the door before they all head home for the day.

2K (west coast) may have to sign off on it... so Firaxis may turn it in and it may sit on someones "Urgent do Today" list for a few hours.

Every time they push the patch to the last day and still don't even release until, as some as saying, later this evening, I have less and less confidence in their ability. In any other market, so would their shareholders.

Or as we say in the business world... marketing ploys!
Pure genius.
Unless proven wrong, i'm willing to gamble *More* DLCs were planned & identified clearly before the September release.
All we get to witness is the fine-tuned results on the usual iteration patterns.

Arrrggghhh... here we go again!

Those were NOTES that 2KGreg received from Firaxis on the 20th, not an ETA promise to be kept. Nothing in that post has been changed since, not a line, not a word.
End_of_Story.
Stop whining, you're making fools of yourselves. :D
