Mass Effect for PC announced

Because it's fine as long as I don't keep repeating it.

And if anybody wondered, the reason why I keep blurting out Gamerankings things is because I don't like it when I've wasted hours and days of my life playing badly-rated games. That's what I used to do.
Feeling like you've "wasted time playing badly rated games" makes no sense. Playing any game is a waste of time, but if you've enjoyed it, then it's ok. Whether it's badly rated or not is 1000000% irrelevant.

Swein, do you have the ability to form your own opinion? If so, would you please play Mass Effect on both a PC and a console for a few weeks and tell us about your experience? That would be interesting, at least for me...

And about your fetish for the numerical representation of the quality of games; stop it. I don't care about random numbers which I can perfectly retrieve for myself whenever I feel the need. I want your opinion about games based on your actual experiences with it! Think for yourself!

Ignore them Swein Forkbeard! don't become a sheep!

So has anyone here actually tried this out on a computer? The game looked somewhat interesting when it came out, but I don't feel like spending the money on it if it's not a good port.

yes, game rankings have their place but its up to the player to decide weither or not its good

for example..... Hidden and Dangerous 2 received a ranking of 7.3, I went and got it anyway and absolutely loved it and continued to play it until my disk ceased to work

if the game is 1-3, sure, use discretion but otherwise play it yourself

Gamerankings is crazy; I mean, why is Civilization IV ahead of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Final Fantasy VII? Why is World of Warcraft ahead of Rome: Total War? Why is Halo 3 ahead of God of War?

None of those make sense.

I have. It is awesome. I never played the console version but you can hardly tell this was ever on a console. It is nothing like the crap ports like Assassin's Creed.

You do understand that you're comparing comlpetely different genres ?
If you read a reivew than read the review and not just the score, than you'll see if the game suits you.
I take scores into consideration when I want to buy a new game, but my standards vary from genre to genre,
I don't like shooters much, so I'll just buy them if they have some intresting features and very good ratings, but I'm less picky about RPGs or strategy games.
You can for example find some serious flaws in Rome:Total War when you are looking for them. The diplomacy system is too tedious and the AI doesn't care much about alliances anyway (sometimes they offer you an alliance and attack you the very next turn), the game gets too repetitive and too easy after you have about 20 cities, the balance could be better and so on...
Now if you like strategy you can forgive these flaws, but they are still there and someone who isn't particularly into these kind of games will rather play a MMO or FPS with lower ratings.

Well, THAT'S true.

Except that I don't really know much. I bought Morrowind just recently so that I could have an RPG, and I think I will play it over summer.

I'm just about to start the last few missions. Some robots on a massive ego trip want to destroy all organic life in the galaxy, the only reason they seem to have is that they are dicks and we wouldn't understand.

So naturally, I'm running around the Citadel tracking down people rigging blackjack machines, helping out some bargirl's snitch sister, and talking to some isolationist prick yelling in the Wards.

That last job netted me 20,000 credits. To earn that money I basically told him he was an idiot.

Oh and apparently Robert Mugabe or Ben Bernanke became treasurer over the entire galaxy in the couple months of game time and the currency is inflated to hell. A license that used to cost 100 credits now costs like 5000. A pistol that used to cost 10,000 now costs about 150,000. That, or my earning money single handedly destroyed the galactic economy.

Despite my mockery I do like this game a lot. Definitely RPG of the year material.

Mass Effect is no RPG. It's basically a shooter with some RPG like elements. It's RPG-lite.
