I have done my turn T-Brd, you may check it now. I had done my whole turn just to pass it and discover I already had a savegame from the one I commited earlier, so I had to redo my turn all over again.

Later I'll take a look in the DLL stuff, now I have to start a project for college.

@JosEPh_II To me, her hair seems more white than blonde. However, it seems that her brains have been corrupted by some vile virus.

Almost makes me wonder if there is some random XML error or other minor typo somewhere that the game keeps tripping over and the problem has nothing to do with unit numbering at all. Mind, I'm not doubting Thunderbrd's ability to debug, it is just a random thought.

@Spirictum Yeah, this is further than I usually get into a game. Most often, the game gets frequent and repeating CTD's that just kill any further progress. Usually during Classical. However, recent fixes have made this version much more stable. I am looking forward to seeing some of the later eras.

As recommendations for your next attempt at single-player, try using a Huge or Giant map and remove about half of the starting NPC civs. This will give you a lot more space to grow (and hunt) into. Make sure that you expand as often and as soon as possible. One other thing I've found to be helpful is to conquer the first NPC civilization that you come across. Most likely, they will settle one or more locations really near you so you will want to anyway. The main reason for this, aside from the extra cities, is reputation. It could be observational bias on my part, but it seems that in games where I conquer a NPC civ early in the game that the rest of the NPCs are less likely to be hostile.

Another trick for getting lots of income. Research and found religions. Then build their Special Buildings and spread, spread, spread that religion. The earlier you can gain your first religion, the better you will do in that game. If you think the science input is nuts, look at the cash flow. 14K+ per turn, and growing each turn.

We will never finish this game :crazyeye:, unless it's done in a pretty early technological era
Can't say for the version we're on but lately players are getting through to the Transhuman at least. The game has serious design flaws past Modern but we're workin' on it. Getting a full experience of those flaws will help with that.

I would guess this is unlikely. It seems to be an overload matter. A certain function must be working under conditions not thought about (or at least not thought possible) during its creation process, and this leads to erroneous behavior in the code, which can then spill out to any other part of the code randomly, triggering all sorts of strange random behaviors.

Like a unit whose ID is over the Last ID used, something which wouldn't happen through the normal routes within the code.

Can't say for the version we're on

That's exactly what I was talking about. How old is this Massive MP game? 4 years? And the Classical Era is still a dream to most if not all civilizations in it. Unless someone wins this pretty early, I can't see the end of this game. I may be wrong though, but that's my feeling about it.

The US MP game is well into the classical era for many of us. Updates have kept things a little more viable but we're past the point where that's possible now with v37 development breaking save compatibility. I think it's been going for about 4 yrs or so and it IS still pretty early but we'd be a lot further along if these bugs hadn't surfaced.

I saw it was my turn on the SVN. I updated all the mod and loaded it fresh. However when I tired to load the game it said unreadable save. I am not sure what you guys did but I cannot take my turn in this game.

That's what we've been discussing about

Well, if we could just get back to doing at least one turn per day, then these games could get moving again. I mean one full game turn, not just one player's turn. Admittedly, most of the players in these games are fairly good about that, most of the time. Admittedly, this specific game cannot move until its technical issues are fixed, but that is different. Sorry, just getting a bit frustrated with the overall slow pace, and with a certain player (hint, not this game) again.

Yeah. Agreed.

Sorry for the repair problems here. We've hit a bit of a wall at the moment and some things need rethought about the repair I've employed.

I know we have been playing this game for a long time but maybe this one should be officially retired. Enough of us are in the other MP game anyways. This one seems to cause soo much problems all the time. I am proposing we put up a vote to end this game (but not the other MP game).

I second this motion to really think about retiring this game. I have taken exactly three turns since July 17th. It has been going so slow and I don't feel confident that we won't run into the same problems even if we do get past the current roadblock.

It is worth considering. Thunderbrd, are you confident that the current problem(s) can be fixed in a way that they will not just happen again shortly after? If the game is going to have to pause every couple of players' turns, it may not be worth keeping.

Also, if we ended this one, would we begin a new one? If we did begin a new one, it would either have to use the current version (so as to not invalidate the other game), be on a separate SVN, or the other would have to be ended as well (so as to use the more recent game version). I would prefer to use the current version if a new game were to be started. Perhaps a new game would give more people good (or at least, better) starting locations, as many (locations) in this game are just bad.

We have all found out that all it takes is one player to consistently lag in their turns to throw a game off track.

I'm kind of ambivalent about this game. I swapped one bad start location for another at it's beginning. I've met one other player in all this time and I most likely will have to try to go thru that player (either diplomatically or forcefully) to get any kind of growth going. If that is even possible.

I've played the role of self appointed cat herder at times but that grows old after 4 years. :p

If it is decided to end it I would not protest.

T-Brd and I have extensively analyzed the problematic part in the game's code to try to find the reason for the issue. I understand you guys being frustrated by the pace of this game. But I'd like to ask you to trust we will gain from this experience. I've been learning to become a programmer in college and I'm finally able to help a mod in CIV code-wisely. I'll go through some debug runs shortly to get more info in this issue.

And what has been motivating me a lot to do it is this game. So give us more time. I'll have some time these following days and I'll use it to analyze this issue.

I don't think a final diagnostic to say that this cannot be resolved is quite there yet. Without Spirictum's help here I would say YES, pull the plug! But I think he's onto a lot here and I think it will be rewarding to the core mod to truly figure this out. I don't blame anyone for lacking faith here. I said from the beginning I was muddling into things I only slightly understood. I'm impressed we've gotten this far. But with Spirictum's insights (we've been speaking in PMs) this may work out yet.

I'd LOVE to do a game on the current assets except that there are still save breaking improvements to come and I'd prefer to start a new MP game after that point and when we know everything is as stable as we can get it basically. I think we grow close to a great time for that but we're not QUITE there yet. After the holidays we may be.

If solving this issue here will also help the main, I can be more patient.

What exactly do you mean by "... save breaking improvements to come..."? Improvements to this specific version of the game? Something in the main?

In the main. I don't want to start a game knowing we won't be able to update it because another save breaking update will be coming in soon. Mostly it's just a data cleanup project to make more room and reduce MAFs. Boring stuff really. But should be done soon before we run out of room for some things to come.

Remember that single player game I mentioned a while ago? It just had another interesting bug. Well, more of a typo I'd guess. String-table error or something. Anyway, I had just researched Railroad, and got this pop-up message...

I commend you for getting so far into the game with that! That's a rather interesting error. I'd have to look at the code pulling the TXT_KEY I think. A problem with the reference used to call the appropriate corporation name.

If this game was Fixed then why can't we continue it? Just replace Praetyre and Vokarya. Would need Vokarya to supply his password. But Praetyre's mini empire does not have one last time I checked.
