Math05: 5BCC Domination

Horses vs Hoplites isn't going to give us good results without help from our catapults, which will have a hard time getting to Greece. I think it may be better to wait until we have a numbers advantage with Samurai.

Pre-Turn: We have 20 horsemen and 6 samurai. If I march on Greece now we have to go through the swamp and it will be horse against hoplites (one way to get our unit cost down). If I wait for the samurai who are released from MP duty next turn it will take them 6 turns to reach the front. Better to wait the full 10 turns for our Maya deal to end then go right through them and hit Greece from the east which avoids the swamp altogether. Meanwhile I’ll upgrade as many horses as I can.

Upgrade a couple of horses. Hit Enter.

IBT – The Celts disband their worker near Augustodurum
Tokyo: Samurai => Samurai
Osaka: Pikeman => Pikeman
Engineering => Invention

Turn 1 130 BC: Make peace with the Celts for 7 gold + 6 gpt. Turn off research. Persia has the Republic but they want 3 techs for it. Stay with Monarchy for now.

IBT – The Celts are building the GL :lol: In their only town!
Edo: Pikeman => Pikeman

Turn 2 110 BC: Start roading towards the two southern Maya towns.

IBT – Kyoto: Samurai => Samurai
Osaka: Pikeman => Samurai

Turn 3 90 BC: Upgrade another horse. KT next turn.

IBT – Tokyo: Samurai => Cathedral
Edo: Pikeman => Cathedral
Satsuma: Knights Templar => Cathedral
We enter our Golden Age

Turn 4 70BC: Switch Kyoto and Osaka to Cathedrals also.

IBT – Lugdunum: Pikeman => Aqueduct

Turn 5 50 BC: Upgrade a couple of horses.

IBT – Kyoto: Cathedral => Samurai
Osaka: Cathedral => Pikeman
Agedincum: Temple => Trebuchet

Turn 6 30 BC: 2 more horse upgrades.

IBT – Tokyo: Cathedral=> Samurai
Satsuma: Cathedral =>Sun Tzu (pre-build for Leonardo)
Edo: Cathedral => Trebuchet
Camulodunum: Temple => Barracks
Eboracum: Temple => Barracks

Turn 7 10 BC: Turn off lux. Lagartero (Maya) has grown to 2.

IBT – Kyoto: Samurai => Samurai
Alesia: Temple => Harbour
Osaka: Pikeman => Samurai
Edo: Trebuchet => Trebuchet
Verulamium: Temple => Barracks

Turn 8 10 AD: Start moving attack forces into place.

IBT – Entremont: Temple => Barracks
Tokyo: Samurai => Samurai
Edo: Trebuchet => Pikeman
Agedincum: Trebuchet => Pikeman
KT produces our first Crusader

Turn 9 30 AD: Upgrade the last of our vet horses.

IBT – Kyoto: Samurai => Samurai
Edo: Pikeman => Pikeman
Camulodunum: Barracks => Pikeman

Turn 10 50 AD: There are assault forces in place outside Lagartero, Bonampak and Tikal. Our main force is in Camulodunum. I haven’t upgraded the catapults but that town gets a barracks next turn if you want to wait. The Maya trade agreement ends next turn. I’m not sure if that means you can cancel it this turn or not. If you can then the attack could roll in straight away. Research is still off but unless you need the cash to upgrade cats it can be restarted now.

Our trade with Maya can be cancelled this turn. Open negotiations with Maya, click on active, select the Gems trade, and clear the table. Then click on active again and select the peace treaty...

Update: It's 130 AD and the Maya are down to their just-founded city on the other side of Greece (they had no cities at the end of 90 AD). It's too late to finish tonight, so I'll finish tomorrow.

Where do we want to build the FP?

50(0): First time I've seen an AI build a city so close to another (yes, I know why)
do some MMing, switch a few builds
cancel gems deal and peace with Maya
lose a samurai capturing Lagartero; also grab a nearby worker
lose a samurai capturing Bonampak, grab their settler inside
Odd, spearmen on grass seem to fight better than javs on hills; capture Tikal without loss
lux to 10%
Tokyo's corruption has risen, causing 34spt, maximize food
science to 90%

IBT: Osaka samurai->samurai
Maya start Great Library
Persia starts MoM

70(1): Capture Copan without loss
lux to 0%

IBT: Kyoto samurai->samurai
Tokyo samurai->samurai
Edo samurai->samurai
Agedincum rax->aqueduct
Eboracum rax->samurai
London builds ToA
Dehli builds Great Library
Gordium builds HG
many other wonder builds switch

90(2): lose a samurai capturing Yaxchilan
capture Chichen Itza without loss

IBT: Maya founds Quirigua
Tikal rax->samurai
Hastings builds MoM
many other wonder builds switch

110(3): lose a samurai autorazing Quirigua
Maya still aren't dead?

IBT: Maya pillage Celt's horses (two OCCs at war, how fun)
learn invention, start on gunpowder
Kyoto samurai->samurai
Osaka samurai->samurai
Lugdunum aqueduct->market

130(4): Calakmul is on other side of Greece; Maya has nothing to offer for peace, so I'd rather not have to wait 20 turns to attack them again
decide to save up some money to upgrade cats

IBT: Alesia harbor->worker
Tokyo samurai->samurai
Edo samurai->samurai
Augustodurum temple->worker

150(5): Upgrade cats

IBT: Kyoto samurai->samurai

170(6): forgot that worker actions would allow Tokyo to get to 35spt, so the current samurai will have to be a 3-turn one

IBT: Entremont rax->market
Osaka samurai->samurai
Verulamium trebuchet->trebuchet

190(7): zzz

IBT: Kyoto samurai->samurai
Alesia worker->worker
Tokyo samurai->samurai (now 35spt)
Edo samurai->samurai
Lagartero samurai->samurai
Pasargadae builds SoZ

210(8): zzz

IBT: Copan trebuchet->trebuchet
India starts Sun Tzu's, Great Wall

230(9): trebuchets are finally ready, move troops towards Greece

IBT: learn gunpowder, start on chemistry
Kyoto samurai->samurai
Osaka samurai->samurai
Tokyo samurai->samurai
Gergovia trebuchet->worker
Augustodurum worker->worker

250(10): We have an unconnected saltpeter near Verulamium

Notes: FP in Camulodunum? If not, it can be switched easily enough
Perhaps waiting for the trebuchets before attacking Greece wasn't necessary; anyways, troops are ready
You might as well capture Burdigala (and the worker nearby) next turn with peace with the Celts expires

We don't have to worry about Maya, they are at war with Greece because they built their new city in Greek territory. That probably means there won't be much of a counter attack from Greece.

FP: I was thinking build it in Agedincum, but probably not much different than Camulodunum.

Satsuma: Leo's, not Sun Tzu's

Tokyo: 2-turn Samurai are nice, but GA ends in 3 turns, so return to zero growth after the next Samurai is complete.

Greek towns: don't bother building Temples - London isn't far away.

Science: Stop research after Military Tradition. We don't want Education, and don't need Theology.

Looking good. Celts gone next turn and the Maya haven't got long to live after that. Greece shouldn't be too much of a problem either. Remember to switch Sun Tzu to Leonardo before it comes in. It would be nice if that English galley drops off a settler south of Osaka. We could do with a town there.

I would assume that the English galley is carrying a settler to the southeastern islands.

Per ToA in London, we don't need to build temples in those Mayan cities, either.

pre-turn 250ad

Why do we have rubble? We should not attack cities unless we will take them. Nothing should be razed, ever.

drop sci to 80%, adding one turn to the research time saves us 66gpt.

Satsuma switched to Leo's

Temple builds in the old Mayan cities switched to Trebuchets

lose a vet sam attacking Mycenae, vet sam kills a hop, lose second vet sam to redlined hop, hop promotes, lose another sam, hop promotes again, then see a lite sam I could have attacked with...he kills hop and we take Mycenae.

I'll end here. There are 3 more Greek cities to take, but I'll let the next player begin to move our forces against them. We should also move some of our military to our North-Eastern border, French cities look nice. We could go after London first though, to get the ToA. Something for discussion.

I have a few units in the south following the Greek Galley around, in case they land someone. If they land a settler though, let them build. Any cities they build will grow... into Japanese cities.

Leo's in 1, HE in 5. some cities I just kept building workers, not sure what else to build, plus workers will come in handy. In the cities I've acquired I've just set to build Tre's. Not sure if we want to build something else. Any changes to current builds is fine with me, just no need for temples, Elizabeth was kind enough to build the ToA for us, isn't she nice.

Finish of Greece, march on London. I wouldn't bother with much beyond London, just get and hold ToA while we take down France and India.

I would think that our forces in the northwest should be enough to finish off the three Greek cities and march right into and occupy London, so we should bring any new units up to are Northeastern border with France, in prep for the next spurt of expansion.

Actually the Army just outside of Calakmul should be enough to take Delphi and the yet unseen Greek city, then head east to be ready for France.

Greece might have settlers, if they build, should we let them grow in order to take the city, or just wipe them out? I know we probably don't need it, but I'm for taking any cities that are built.

Preturn-
in newly captured cities the build is changed to worker. we need some more workers up in the greece area to build some roads and some of those cities were building spearman and a longbowman. Bonampak switched to courthouse and Lugdunum to a sam. both were building a library, which won't be needed, if we are stopping research after MT. Metallurgy is in 7 turns and MT is maybe 8-10 after that. changed all clowns to scientists and Metal dropped from 9 to 7 turns. troop movements. hit enter.
