Max's Succesions Games : #1

Hi guys,
I had hoped I would get another turn before I can say this, but weekend probably keeps someone too busy :)
Thing is, I'm moving out today/tomorrow from home and will start a new job tomorrow. I don't know how long it will take before I get internet installed, so I suggest you skip my turns until you read an "I am back muahahaa"-message. Good luck with our Persians and I hope it's not gonna take too long before I can play again :(

actually sorry guys better skip me. Not gonna be able to get it done in the next day or so, my bad. I'll try to get it next time it comes around.

hmm... I quess all Germans are moving these days, coz I am moving tomorrow, too :) So for the next few days I cannot play. But let's keep our game alive! We are doing fine.

Does this mean its agemnus' turn?

I will go then. Sorry for the long delay, my computer has not been working well and my mouse is just now back online. (so I can connect and stuff)

I will try to play the game tomorrow morning (-5GMT) and have it available soon after I wake up. :)

(Read very end for Important Things To Know)

700AD: (turn 0) I make some adjustments to the cities to improve productivity and growth.

710AD: WAR MODE!! (turn 1)

I declare WAR on the filthy Romans! With Egypt (and Silks, and 7 gold) as my ally, we will CRUSH the Romans!

We master Invention and Education. Great Library obsolete.

710AD (turn 2)

An elite spearman, defending a settler on a hill, is killed by an attacking elite Roman horseman. Fortunately, we have a regular spearman defending the settler as well.

We declare War against the Germans and persuade England to join our cause.

We attack Caesarea and our civilization enters a Golden Age! Horray! :)

I micromanage the cities a bit more.

730AD (turn 3)
We have just enough gold to establish embassies in Zululand and India, and we persuade them to declare War on the Aztecs, Romans, and Germans.

We take Caesarea from the Romans!

740AD (turn 4)
Our veteran galley (no one on board) is lost to raiders.

In a gambit, I lead some Roman archers away from the poorly defended city of Istakhr to the mountains, with a warrior+settler. Unfortunately, they are lost, but the city still stands, even after heavy assault.

We establish a fourth city, Merv, on 'North Island'. The Egyptians were very close to establishing a city in nearly the same location.

We set research to 70%. We will be done with Gunpowder in 8 turns.

750AD (turn 5)

War Report: The Aztecs have lost Dacca to the brave Indians. The Germans have taken Dortmund. The Romans are losing northern cities to Egypt. They are being razed..

760AD (turn 6)
Egypt is Gracious towards me and regards me as the 'wise and just ruler of Persia!'

770AD (turn 7)
A citizen of Tyre starves due to my luxury confinements at the Palace! :(

I build the Behistun Canal linking the waterways between Eastern and Western France and Rome.

780AD (turn 8)
Once explorers and settlers of distant lands themselves, the people of Sidon wave goodbye to the newly created group of settlers. They will venture towards uncharted territory. Ad

Persepolis riots! 'How could you let the people of Tyre starve like that!' they shout, congregating around the Palace.

We are very low on gold and it seems we are 168 gold short of that which is needed to complete Gunpowder. We switch to heavy taxes, low science.

The archer regiment attacking Lugdunum becomes Elite after destroying a defending spearman! Our Immortal finishes off the remaining Spearman. We now control Lugdunum! The lake which we sought to control for centuries is finally wholly and completely ours! On to Rome!

790AD (turn 9)

Roman Artaxata has been attacked by our Immortals. The Romans had 2 spearman defenders, however.

Roman Palmyra has been taken by the Egyptians.

Iona Magnus begins its first Irrigation project.

We switch back to 50% Science Production. Gunpowder in one turn! We the Persians hurry the Library in Zohak.

800AD (turn 10)

There is gunpowder in a border city (Aurelianorum) between Rome and Egypt. When it falls, we shall capture it by colonizing the surrounding lands.

We set off to colonize the soon-to-be ruins of Aurelianorum with a rushed settler.

An Immortal regiment besieges Artaxata and captures it. The people of Persepolis rejoice at the glorious victory. Our Immortal regiment at Lugdunum destroys a Roman Archer group.
810AD (turn 11)

Chalco has been taken by the Indians from the Aztecs.

India is willing to pay 1gpt for 20 turns for out 18 gold. A 10% loan, and much better than Wall Street. But one with inherent risks..

Persepolis is now home to 470,000 inhabitants!
The Indians now owe us 199 gold.

820AD (turn 12)
England and Egypt sign a military alliance against Rome! An unexpected bonus...
Right of Passage with France established.

Hippo Regius flips to the Persians without a fight!

830AD (turn 13)
A worker is killed by Barbarians in the north! We build two Universities, one in Persepolis. With a large stockpile of gold, we begin further research into Chemistry.

840AD (turn 14)

In the North, we stop the Barbarians dead in their tracks. Several (4) Immortals converge on the outskirts of Neapolis.

850AD (turn 15)

Zululand and Rome sign a Peace Treaty.

860AD (turn 16)

More Persian victories on the Roman plains and hills.

870AD (turn 17)
Hippo Regius almost recaptured by the Romans. Whew, that was close. Pompeii taken by the Egyptians. No sign the Egyptians will lose their steam.
Byzantium taken from the Romans. Ad Portas Romae!
880AD (turn 18)
India and Rome sign a Peace Treaty..
Behistun founded.
Massive disorder because of the population's war weariness. Luxuries raised to 20%. An unexpected surprise for our explorer-settlers at North Island: unclaimed Saltpeter has been sighted!
890AD (turn 19)
We prepare to attack Rome by placing 2 Immortals and a Spearman on the hills.
900AD (turn 20)
The Immortals do not attack, but instead wait for re-inforcements from Byzantium to arrive.

Important Things To Know:

**Settler/Galley at hills: DO NOT land the settler near the Barbarian encampments! Notice the quantity of horsemen.. wait for our Spearman and the Impi to get on a mountain and clear the area.

**Immortal group: When you have collected our 4 Immortals, Archer, and Spearman on the hill, attack Rome. Capture it, strongest units first! Now go for Antium if losses were not very heavy. Attack from the mountains south of Antium. After you capture Antium, cancel your alliance against the Romans with Egypt, England, and Zululand. Then make peace for as many cities (ask for Nicopolis! It's near Saltpeter!), gold, and technology as you can.

**Research: I am going for Metallurgy and then Military Tradition. We will be able to complete our conquest of the Roman civilization once we have these technologies.

**I feel our Golden Age is coming at an end. Be prepared to lose this unprecedented productivity in 2 or so turns. On the other hand, there will be less discontent among the populace and we can fire most of the entertainers we needed after we make Pax with the world.

**After the worker at the Canal is built, set him to build a road to France and then connect the city to one of our other cities. After he finishes his road, negotiate a deal for Furs from France in exchange for either gold per turn or Silks, or Dyes, or a mix. Gives us more luxuries :). Do not give France more than one luxury, however!!

OK guys, I'm back. With less spare time on my hands so I might not be able to play my round within 24 hours. It would be my turn now, but I'm not going to play unless the one whose turn it would be now if I hadn't gone says he hasn't played his turn yet. Don't want to destroy your afford with my lousier contributation :)

Go on ahead. Your after agemnus anyways :)

900AD (1): Bah, people really play with animations on? Annoying. My turn to set preferences to my needs again :) Attacking

Rome with your well placed immortals, not losing a single hp. Spearmen fortifies on the hill. Ah nice, we're at war with both

the Germans and Rome but I'm able to negotiate peace. That's great. Nice Aga: I love your short and accurate military

campaings and set me back in times of peace ;) I will try to take Rome next round and then talk about peace with Caesar.

Getting our settle in the north back to the ship. I guess the Saltpeter is our goal.

910AD (2): Rome attacks our spearmen who secures our immortals with a longbowman. We win, but lost 2 hps. Our first immortal

dies, the 2nd beats the longbowman. Their last spearman has only one hp and ours has 2. I risk it and attack. We win. Rome is

now Persian. Heh, just seeing we're also at war with Monti. Who cares, going to make peace with everyone this round and live

peacefully along each other. For a few rounds, maybe. Caesar decides to give us all his gold (an amazing 2 gold) and

Aurelium. It's a town in complete desert, but it has Saltpeter. He isn't willing to share more than that with us. Otto gives

us 110 gold for peace with Germany. I kindly asked for Astronomy and/or Banking but that idea rather insulted him.

920AD (3): Egypt starts work on JS Bach in case anyone cares. Sending our workers to the north to get the newly acquired saltpeter online as soon as possible. Starving those damn Roman citizens in Rome to avoid easy flipping. Chemistry discovered. Going for Astronomy next, to finally make our resources available everywhere.

930AD (4): Golden Age is over. Zululand's impi who was sent northwards to the barb uprising has been killed by a single horseman. Hopefully our spearman will do better than him. Our galley with the settler is waiting right there to settle next to the saltpeter when the scene is safe. Trading with Joanie: We give chemistry, we get furs, some gold, banking, astronomy and music theory.

940AD (5): Our spearman dies. Not looking good for another town there at the moment.

I'm sorry but I can't play more than those 5 turns now (I haven't changed productions unless anything finished and only conquered a city and made peace). I have to wake up at 4.45 tomorrow and i'm already feeling deadly tired :(

Save game

Bla now I notice how badly notepad with line alignment blubbed my text up :( Sorry, for that, it's a pain to read that. Good that I didn't play full 20 turns, your eyes would have sued me :)

Ok, i shall be taking my turn now.

Preturn: This did not end up existing. I dont mind, since i dont have much to change, but do please try to supply us with preturns. Thank you :)

950 ad: The short lived 'simpl-ey-bogg' dynasty comes to an end faster than it started, and a new religious order (dont worry, no plans on switching govs yet), which originated from the town of iona magnus, takes the reigns of the government. First order of business? To protect our new traditions with bolstered defenses. (translation: Im gonna build a military. Possibly finish the war with aztecs)Switched ceasarea's production to a pikeman; the towns defenseless...

960: Pasargadae builds aqueduct. Starts pikeman. Bactra finishes a new imports and exports district, which shall end up bolstering economic stuff there. Building knight. Starts pikeman. With revelation of the new religion, merv's civil disorder ends, and the citizens find peace. Also, hamadans cultural influence expanded (i dont think i'll document any more cultural expansions unless there important, from now on).

970: Rome offers trade of territory maps. I reject, remembering that we still hold a grudge with them. Zululand and aztecs have come to terms, and signed a peace treaty. Susa builds aqueduct. Starts caravel. Note: If you dont mind, im not going to document when workers get built anymore either, unless important. To redundant (again). Ergili finishes the first of the ejam-nite (my religon) courts. All tried there are tried under the laws of the church. Knight started. Zulu building leonardos, AND sistine both at once. France building copernicus'. Egam`Noi founded on the island with both renes and seleucia on it.

980: Tyre finishes its university. Work begun on pikeman. Disorder in tureng tepe; the citizens do not yet fully believe in the new order. I set some entertainers to show some of the Lords miracles. Delhi finishes sun tzus art of war. Aztecs start JS bachs and sistine. Zulu begins leonardos and sistine. Germans start leonardoes (urgh) and js bachs AND copernicus (is there no end to this madness?!?!) Thebes finishes leondardoes. They immediately begin work on sistine chapel and js bachs. england begins sistine.

990: Gordium finishes aqueduct. Starts immortals. Tureng tepe has regained faith in the order. Zulu building sistine (make up your minds dammit). Germany building js bachs and copernicus. Starvation at tureng tepe.

1000: Egypt is conquering rome, apperently. note much else to report

1010: Ive sent a galley with 2 immortals to clear the barbarian presence in the north-northern island away... that way we can found a town.

1020: Started building a bank in pasargadae. Reims finishes the sistine chapel. Realizing i forgot to set persepolis' wonder earlier, when leonardoes was finished i set it too copernicus' observatory.

1030: Various civs begin building smiths trading co.... nothing else major

1040: Cologne finishes copernicus! !(*&^#!@!!!! Moving along.... nothing else new.

Okay, people proved that the ejam-nite god doesnt exist, and my reign ends. Now then...

First of all, i believe a conquest victory is nigh impossible now. We are still at war with the aztecs, and it would still help if we crush them, but i say mass agression should end there.

1: I have already started assembling troops to invade aztecs. they are relatively small. when you invade, go in hard, reinforcements will take downright forever to get there, so the first wave = our only wave. Make it count. :goodjob:

2: Egypt is growing a little to powerful what with the conquest of rome. If there is ever a second war after the aztecs, we should team up with them... they've more land than us:eek: !

3: we might want to speed up our research a bit... something i forgot to do (doh!)

4: Have i been sloppy? Documenting stuff, that is. Sorry if i am, but this is my first succession game.

Save game in a moment...

And heres the save!

Good luck!:goodjob:

Okay, if i didnt have winzip, i wouldnt have been able to upload the file... and soon not even winzip can stop the 250KB limit! What do we do then? What hosting service you been using, simplybag>

I started a war with the Aztecs to force them to use their stack of dooms... slow 'em down... dunno if it's a good idea to kill the Aztecs.. maybe grab a city or 2 and then some techs from Aztecs? We should give one of the cities to Egypt..

We should not ally the Egyptians. We should conquer them. You'd be surprised how hard it is to fight a 3 front war.. one in Aztec lands, one on our line, and one between Germany (Ger would be hard to convince) / England. Also Egypt has a lot of corruption, maybe as much as ours!! :) Ally France against Egypt as well.

As soon as we get 5 or 6 Cavalry and a Forbidden Palace, it should be easy to get going. As long as Egypt doesn't have rifleman by then. Keep the tech going!

Would be better if the war had ended a few turns back... that's a lot of war weariness.

You can upload >300K to www.civfanatics.net/uploads.. see the bottom page..

Whats the point of giving one of the aztec cities to the egyptians if we are planning to war with them shortly afterwards?

Oh, one more note: Rome is doomed. Unless we war with egypt NOW!

Whether to let egypt grow stronger (have more cities) and eliminate a rival, or save a rival, attack egypt before it gains more power, and save rome in the progress (while keeping rome weak, of course), i cannot say.

The point is to start another world war. With the Aztecs and the Zulus on our side. When the Indians and Zulus approach Egypt's city in the Aztec mainland, we can declare War on India. :flamedevi

We can't attack Egypt now. They probably still have a lot of War Chariots left, even though their army may be depleted. We need to get Mettaurgy and Military Tradition, then Cavalry stacks ASAP. We should prepare by training cheap horsemen!!

Nice to see that we're making some good progress :) Cleo, however, is scaring me. In all of my games I had made very very bad experiences with her, if she became too big she'd sneakattack me. I sometimes was gracious with her but she attacked nonetheless. Rome will soon disappear and we'll have a very long direct border with them.
We still don't have the FB? A shame that we couldnt get a leader off the Roman-Persian wars :( Once we conquer Egypt and have the big continent basically to ourselves, it will be easy going. But still a long way to go. Can't wait for the weekend and I will be able to take some active part again (maybe with a few more than 20 turns ? :))

Good luck and I'll go back to what I may call my "work" for the next 10 months.
