I'm replacing a guy who is away for 9 days in one PBEM. Maybe we should also look for temporary replacement every time one of us is away for a week or more? Holidays are coming, so I guess it would make a difference.

I'll find some replacement for sure when I'll be gone.

Yeah, sounds like a good idea. I didn't think about think about it when Mighty informed me and he gave me plenty of notice, so we will just hold this time. But, from now on everyone should get a replacement if going to be away for more than 72 hours. During the work week that seems to be our normal turn around time. Everyone is dedicated to keeping the game going and I would hate to loose any steam.

Please read #12 under Commitments/Agreements section of OP.

I know I get 3 weeks vacation/year, if everyone averages 2 weeks vacation/year with 8 players that's 16 weeks of down time/year(4 months!). I know that is not exactly accurate since the other 7 of us will still be passing the game around, but it does constitute a significant portion of the year and considerable delays for the game. So in fairness to everyone else that has made a commitment to this game, we should all do what we can to keep the game running smoothly.

That sounds like a fair idea, so if we know that we are going to be absent, and we care that we get someone that plays the same level as us, we should look for a temporary replacement?

They don't even necessarily have to be the same level. Just tell him/her what you want to do. Some stuff you could que up. Most turns they would only have to open the game, hit enter, and forward. Even if someone has a two week absence, the substitute would only probably play 4 or 5 turns at the most.

I am a bad man but I forgot to do my turn yesterday. I will attempt to get my turn done at lunchtime which is a good 4 hours a way. In my defense yesterday was absolutely insane.
