Nice progress Space :goodjob:

Don't worry about the barb. We have to accept bad luck along with the good. I doubt if any of us would have played differently.

Good progress and nice trading, Space! :goodjob:

And if the barb does what he shouldn't do, the Civ3 gods will compensate us with hundreds of great leaders... ;)

The Iron there is a clear message of what we have to do... What do you folks think about building a few (vet) Warriors in Nanking before connecting it? A pity we will need the wines...

I’ll have a look at the save tonight. I’m at work right now (just got here (GMT –7hrs)) so I’ll hopefully post some discussion in 10-12 hours and the play in about 24 hours if that is OK with everyone. (So got it I guess, except that I have checked to see that the save is ok)

Are you running deficit research? Do you think maybe we should since we have a relatively small military and a lot of gold? I’m not 100% sure, but isn’t that the criteria for the AI to submit demands?

I’ll see what I can do about cranking out some warriors before hooking up Nanking. Obviously the wines are very important though. Maybe the barb will be a blessing in disguise if pillages that iron ;)

@space : you posted in your turn review that the reason you went to 0.7.3 was due to the barb
I'll
move up the science slider to use our money now instead of letting it get stolen. So its (0.7.3) now.

have we decided to try and keep it there, or is it only now, during dangerous times ?

Ps - we have to get some defence into our culture cities, even if we don't get sabotaged by this barb! ?I would almost make it our 1st priority. It'll allow us a measure of defence, and allow us to ease off of the lux, due to dispotism mil police effect.

My suggestion would be to keep it high as long as our defence is insufficient, but go back to min after that at least until we have libraries. Writing is a nice thing to have, 'cos of the contact trading. This should be a pangaea map though, so we'll have to be quick about it, that's why the scouting warriors are still out there.

I hear that!

hmmm . trying to recall what kind of culture we get from GL - isn't it quite good ? Then again, does culture go away when Education cancel effect, or on the special effect of gaining tech's ? My guess would be that any culture per turn would remain.

@wanderer -- You get 6gpt from the Great L before doubling, and you continue to get it after education.

@a space oddity -- Your avatar is still odd, only odd in a different way ;) What is that?

A culutural building doubles after 1000 years.

Early build culture doubles quickly. Late game culture may never double.

He is just sayi8ng that it takes 1000 years for it to double. So if you build something in 0AD it would double its culture per turn (cpt) in 1000 AD. Something built in 500 BC starts doubling in 500 AD etc. The reason late game stuff never doubles is because after 1050 AD it is impossible for the buildings to ever be older than 1000 years old (2050AD end of game). Building things early results in better cpt because it takes less turns until it starts doubling.

Got it?

PS just dl'ing the save right now.

Well, after examining the save, things look a little sketchy right now. I think I will pump warriors out of Nanking right now, finish the temple in Canton, go barb hunting if I can spare a warrior.

The worker is currently in Canton. Do you guys think it will be better to road and mine the BG first, and then head towards the Game? I think that would be better, because we won't waste the forest chop that way.

Also, if the barb wrecks production on the Pyramids do you think we should start over on them as a prebuild at the very least, or punch out a temple, granary, or warrior? Thoughts? I feel like it is likely that the pyramids will get wrecked. Just a stab in the dark, but does anyone know if your gpt affects whether a barb takes cash or ruins production?

I will wait for some responses and then play in a few hours or tomorrow depending on the response.

I think it only takes a fraction of the cash. We have 4 cities and 263 gold, so I think we will lose around 65 if the barb does plunder........ (crosses fingers).

Well, I also whipped a little RCP dotmap (well, no dots). So I would the original furs spot as priorty #1 and the spot SW of the lone mountain that is 3-4 SW of Shanghai as priorty #2. (I guess I should of used dots  ) I guess for any other cities we should be outside of the 5.5

@inudog: I didn't see your remark about the avatar at first. It's a picture of Europe, one of Jupiters' moons. It is said to have a subsurface ocean beneath a thick layer of ice. It even has a (very thin) oxygen atmosphere. Beautiful isn't it?!

As for what to do if the work on the Pyramids gets undone, I fear we just have to roll with the punch and keep building it. But lets cross that bridge when we reach it. All our positive thoughts are with you. ;)
