Link to video.

The argument was over the counterman scanning a counterfeit 50 dollar note and then refusing to serve the two assailants.

Granted, this cat went over board, but to be honest, I don't see how this wasn't to be expected.

When you come at somebody, expect to be came at.

Does anyone disagree with me?

I am especially curious to see what this forum will say after the thread about the Englishman stabbing a home invader to death.

I was taught at a young age that once you commit to defending yourself you cannot stop until that person assaulting you has stopped. I saw them continuing to get up as he hit them, and I feel he is completely in the right to defend himself. They crossed the counter and chased him around the corner.

My thoughts exactly, people will instinctively curl up into a ball when they are defeated and stay their (As evident in combat sports when someone is truly knocked out and only parts of the brain are turned on)

If you keep getting up it's clear that you still want to fight.

Sidenote: My first thought when watching that was "Ohhhh, that equality hurts doesn't it?"
But in reality I know the guy will get a harsher sentence because they are woman regardless of what the law says.

Honestly? Stupid ******* got what they deserved. They started it, they deserve a good beating IMO.

Lucky for them, the guy they attacked was an ex-con who had just gotten out after serving several years for violent assault.

Unlucky enough for that guy, he's probably going back in.

This is how the media reports it when two female customers starts a fight, jumps the counter and pursues a male cashier:
This is a cashier with a criminal history, who violently, violently attacked two unruly customers.
Because two people attacking another a third person is not really an attack if the first two people are women and the third person is a man...

The results ended up being a fractured skull, a broken arm and a deep cut. Women got charged with criminal mischief and menacing, the guy is charged with felony assault.

Oh you mean continuing to present a threat?

Who knows what they could have done.

Why were these women attacking him? They should get jail time for just crossing the counter of a business with intent to assault. The guy beat them and had every right to do so, he didn't murder them. Completely in the right. That is unless you people think that in a given situation YOU personally would not defend yourself, and if you say that you clearly are a liar. I'd hit a woman who attacked me, civil rights and all.

Felony assault disgusts me and this is exactly why the American legal system is the in the crapper.

Dude was in defense mode. Granted he should have walked away so, if they did come up, they would have to come towards him and earned the other licks they got.

Or maybe you're trying to flee because there's a guy who keeps hitting you with a blunt object.
The attacker wouldn't be in that situation if she didn't attack first: the attacker new what could be the consequence of her actions, being beaten back is just to be expected.

That dude went way overboard.
I don't completely agree: He was attacked and he had to be sure to completely extinguish the source of danger for himself an other people.

Criminals that get punished, just get what they deserve

He crossed the line when he continued to strike them when they were apparently lying on the floor and trying to get away. Your right to self-defense doesn't include delivering a coup de grace.

Keeps hitting? The guy stops (00:41) only when the attackers tries to stand up does he strike again to keep them down.

We can't expect people who are getting attacked to behave completely after the textbook. The guy maybe hits 2 or 3 times more than he should and after the attackers had crouched down he should have taken a step backwards, but that's it. And while I'm sure it hurts they're not likely to get lasting injuries.

They attacked first and then chased after him. Against several attackers you don't let them get in a position where they might jump at you again.

Gosh they deserved that.
The MacDonald's employee also shot and killed a high school teenager back in 2000 :O

If the video shows the extent of the fight then I agree it looks like he was in the right.

They abused him and slapped him in the face.
- this tends to make people aggressive and lose their temper.

They jumped the counter and chased him into the kitchen. The CBS report posted by Cheetah states that the two women appeared to be intoxicated.
- Intoxicated people tend to keep fighting after they have lost.

The other employees did not appear to intervene to defend the man from the two women.
- so he sees himself as being on his own against two people.

If you think he "should have" stopped and therefore is liable to be prosecuted, you've probably never been under a serious assault in you'r life, and don't know the actual thought process of of a victim (hint: there is no thought process, it's all instinct, fight or flight).

Someone should have hit the ditzy blonde for disturbing the peace. :p

Here's more details of the incident:

Let's take a break from all the violent protest videos and catch our breathe with a McDonald's beatdown video. This entry in the fast food fight canon comes to us by way of DNAinfo, which reports that the altercation occurred at the McDonald's on West 4th Street in Greenwich Village, just after midnight on Thursday. Take it away, cell phone-holding customer who still doesn't grasp the merits of holding the phone horizontally:

The more you know about this video the more depressing it is. Our first reaction was: Oh, that tired overworked cashier is hitting those trespassers with a broomstick—guess they shouldn't have jumped behind the counter! But that's not a broomstick, it's a metal rod. And one of the women ended up with a fractured skull and broken arm.

DNAinfo reports that the violence started after one of the customers, Denise Darbeau, 24, of Queens, started cursing out the cashier, Rayon McIntosh, 31, because he said he needed to check her $50 bill to make sure it wasn't counterfeit. Darbeau is seen on video slapping McIntosh, and then she and her friend, Rachel Edwards, 24, jump the counter. McIntosh disappears from frame, but then reappears with the metal rod and brings it down again and again and again.

McIntosh faces felony assault charges, along with criminal possession of a weapon. Dabeau and Edwards were charged with menacing, trespass and disorderly conduct. And then there's this: McIntosh just finished serving over a decade in prison after shooting and killing a classmate at Bronx's Evander Childs High School in 2000, when he was only 19. He was paroled in March, and had been working at McDonald's since, commuting to his job from the Bronx... Is it the weekend yet?
So... It appears the bill wasn't actually counterfeit, and the guy behind the counter really overreacted. If you are getting hit repeatedly by a metal rod, you aren't just going to cower. You are going to try all you can to crawl away.

And he's been sacked:

McDonald's cashier Rayan McIntosh sacked after fracturing woman's skull with metal rod

"The actions of this individual are unacceptable and not characteristic of my employees," she said. "This individual no longer works for my organisation."

But while some people have been outraged by the actions of McIntosh, others are calling him a hero.

The Rayon McIntosh Defense Fund has been set up on Facebook and is just one of several cyber-support pages.

The 31-year-old worker's dad is also solidly in his son's corner.

"You can't go into a person's workplace and attack them," Rayon McIntosh Sr., 54, told the Post. "Let's be real now - this was self-defence."

Hmm... the last few strikes seemed a bit overboard considering it looks like the other employee nearest him was trying to break it up, but:

I have no sympathy for the people who jumped the counter with the intent of assaulting him.

It's all about disproportionate force. You can't nearly kill someone for slapping you in the face and acting aggressively towards you, especially when you can simply run away.

It's one cruel world that a man can't defend himself from apparent aggression. The assailants forfeited their right to parley and should have stayed on the ground. I see no problem with a person continuing to beat an attacker provided that the attacker does not stay on the ground in an nonthreatening position.
