Medieval European Mod II Preview

You expect to get news every day? :p

We are currently discussing how much more should be added. We got some ideas for extra features and graphics, but at this point we don't know if they will be implemented now or later.

Here is a low quality pic from still in progress version of the Hundread Years War. Don't read too much context into the pic, England will not be able to build the Hagia Sofia. ;)

I just wanted to show how the mod looks like ingame.

So, how is this going?

I'm currently ill but it's going. The upcoming holidays means a free week to finish things up. Should be done already but we suffer from "just one more feature" syndrome ;) e.g. here (Trebizond Archer/Toxotis):

As ED said, we can't decide when it's ready, but we should crack that nut in the next couple of days.

Agreed, the archer looks brilliant! I can't wait for this mod to come out, it really looks like it's going to be great :) .

Thanks!
Also, this is a particular kingdom's UU, someone may be able to guess based on one detail:

The French used a similar weapon but this one is particularly dear to someone else! (given that I modeled it correctly, there are many designs it seems)

THe Swiss! The Swiss!!. No wait, didn't they wear those bright costumes? I know they liked the halbred a lot especailly the Vadican guard. Anyway, I like the sheen the armour reflects. Very 2007 man.

Wrong! :p The answer is - England, and the weapon he's carrying is the English Bill: http://www.armor.com/2000/Catalog/item030.html
This is not a halberd, although it's a late design that is indeed close, maybe too close?. There's quite a lot of different ones that look more like the agricultural bill hook or guisarme.

I'm basing this on internet research, maybe someone else can suggest if this is accurate portrayal of the English Billman? This was also my reference for armor, but the weapon's hook was too small for civ-scale: http://www.princeaugust.ie/knights/billman_422.jpg

i was going to say english billmen, but it did look a lot like a halberd rather than a bill in my oppinion, so i kept my mouth shut ;)

been too busy playing medieval II: total war :king:

Nice-looking units, ed

And I also like the movements of the archer... altougn the bow looks like it's made of solid steel or something (the arches do not seem to bend at all). Or is the movement just so lightning-fast that I can't see them bend? :)
...but that's just a minor detail. :yup:

Very nice Billman ED :goodjob:. You didn't mention that you would actually make a new Billman for the English, did you?

Ps - Could you upload the updated version, I plan to finish my current game today, so it would be best if my next test game was up-to-date. ;)

Finished the game. My first cultural victory with this mod. Here is a screenshot of my capital Prague, taken the turn before I won.

I didn't lead the game at all, but the City State goverment proved especially usefull for my capital, so I was able to win this way.

edit - BTW check out my science output!

Nice!

But I have an unrelated comment: how do you mod the appearance of the food/shields/gold that appear on the map in the city view? I mean, where are the files? These graphics are great. :)
