Meet the Modders

@ BlueMonkey: None in this event, since I was commanding the right flank of the coalition infantry. I can be found by looking for a blue & yellow helmet (8 colored sections, the guy with 4 sections is one of my serjeants).

@ Wolf: Yes, reparations were paid in wine and cheese. ;)

I would love to get involved in something like this. I'm heading to Germany for a few weeks in July, and will move there in about a year for university, so perhaps I can get involved in something like that then...
In other news, I'll be heading to the open casting for a new History Channel series 'The Vikings' on the 20th, so I hope I get that!

Not sure about other cultures, but the legend of the Marble King used to be very popular here a couple of generations before my own. It was revived by some notable monks-later-saints who wrote a few prophecies about a great war, and its happy result for this country.
It is arguably the most known urban legend here.
The variation of it i found is quite striking. I placed it in a dream, whereas in the original text it was presented as an actual experience. I also tried to give most of the focus on a symbolic explanation of the dream, but in the end this sort of collapses.

Some stories just have a couple of points that make an immediate impression.

Too bad you gave up on learning greek :)
I didn't 'give up', I found a better language and also your Embassy was completely unhelpful. I'll get around to learnign that language one way or another.

Your knights should be riding something closer to a Percheron or Belgian, but that does look like a lot of fun. The big re-enactment activity here in the States, at least in my area is the Civil War, some WW2, and the period of the Mountain Men about 1840 or so.

Side Note: Thinking of Mountain Men, has anyone ever done one of those to use for an Explorer or Scout? I have a nice drawing of one of them done by Frederick Remington if someone is interested. Probably would have to include the donkey as well, for authenticity sake.

Found you!

So who won?

Sandris made a coureur de bois (sp.?).
Correct spelling would be "coureur des bois". coureur de bois would mean the runner is made of wood.

What if he had a wooden leg?

Yes I wrote the post quickly without waiting 3 days to be back home where I had the file bookmarked & could have provided as link as well as the correct spelling for the unit as posted.*

* "French Coureur de Bois (24 May, 2008)" is the thread title, although the correct spelling is used within the 1st post.

We're derailing the thread again.

Good find. Since this is a re-enactment of the actual battle, we allowed our French friends to win. ;)

:cheers::cheers::cheers:Son (and Father) update.

It has been 4 weeks since the surgery, and things are progressing very well. The incision is healing up very well, with no more trips to the emergency room or problems during the Doctor exams. He has managed to work all week at the college's IT department, as well as making his two night classes.

I should mention that our daughter is presently in South Africa, near Johannesburg, 10 days into a short term mission trip for our church, and will be returning home on July 7th. The Facebook updates from the church youth pastor are avidly scanned every evening, and things are going well with her and the team there.

I am getting ready for my summer teaching stint of three weeks starting July 16th, which will be especially challenging this summer, as my co-teacher and I will be doing two morning classes re-enacting World War 2, using a couple of 4 foot by 8 foot 1939 World Maps and the miniature military figures from Axis and Allies. I need to finish up the rules under which we will be running the game when the students have at it to see if they can re-write history. This should prove to be very interesting for all concerned.
Our weekend planning session starts this Friday.

A friend of mine, the head of Student Activities at my son's college showed me this, so I thought that I would share it as it shows some of what I have done.

I show up at 3;25 in the video, and do the identification of the wreck. It was a very interesting trip.

Hey guys!

Sorry I haven't been around much lately, but more on that later....

Timerover: Glad to hear things are working out for you and your family.

Ares: Love your re-enactment pics...

Anyways, I know I mentioned earlier that I was house-hunting and that I got engaged, well, to make a long story short (and to provide something in the way of an excuse for my inactivity), my fiance and I are set to get married one month and one day from now... Wedding preparations are ALMOST complete, with the big stuff (gift registry, suits, dresses, invitations, etc) all out of the way.

Furthermore, I was able to find a nice, fairly new house on 0.46 acres (about 0.25 Hectare) for about $111,000, taxes and closing costs included. Unfortunately, it looks like the deal might not close until two days before the wedding, but at least it will be done before we go on our honeymoon.

Despite all this, I DID manage to make a few of my useless girly units, but unfortunately, when I was going to post them last week, the power supply of my civving computer decided to take a dump (somehow the ENTIRE +5v section is shorted to ground, but I have been unable to locate the fault), meaning that my awesome dual-core machine is just an expensive paperweight until I can get a new power supply from Newegg, and even then, I'll likely have to make a few modifications to the mounting scheme, since the new PS uses a slightly different one than the old one did....

In the meantime, I've had another idea, which I'll be posting in a thread shortly.

Good to hear from you Hikaro; glad to hear life is treating you well, bar the PC troubles of course.

In other news, I got accepted to the PhD programme, and I'm heading out to Germany on Thursday. :)

Congratulations on the PhD program acceptance! All I have is a lousy Associate's Degree. :p

I wish I could go to Germany (and Switzerland and Austria)... My family (both sides) was from Germany and Switzerland originally, and my Fiance's family was from Austria.

Well, most people here don't follow the OT Comings and Goings thread so the odds are that you missed this. My computer died on me a few weeks ago, both the power source and video card went and it cost me a crapful of bills to pay for it. aaah. Good thign is, I've more or less survived term (no job yet!) and I'll try to give the forum a hobbit-like birthday present next week.
