Meet the Modders

Nick, that´s a good news. Congratulations! [party] What will be the name of your daughter?

Thanks everyone! Yes my wife deserves all the credit. She did amazingly well.

We called her Rhiann in English or 리안 (Ri-an) in Korean as my wife is from Korea. We wanted a name that works in both languages and this one does. Rhiann is a Welsh name.

Plotinus, how is your wife going with her pregnancy?

My wife gave birth to our first child, a daughter, on the 26th or June. Both my wife and daughter are doing amazingly well and I'm so proud of them. We are tired and happy :)

Congratulations, Nick. My advice is to enjoy your time with your children while they are small, as they grow up so very quickly. Also, try to spend time with your new daughter every day.

Best of luck to Rhiann/리안 ! :D

Plotinus, how is your wife going with her pregnancy?

Thanks Nick. She continues to be in constant pain and discomfort, but has been for the past seven or eight months, so we're kind of used to it, not to mention the sleeplessness. We have a month until the due date now. The baby himself is doing absolutely fine, which is the main thing. But it's definitely not been an easy pregnancy!

Congrats on the new and pending offspring! Raising children is by far the hardest yet most rewarding thing you will ever do. Plotinus my wife had difficult pregnancies too - nothing to the point of hospitalization, but was in constant pain and nausea the whole time - both times, so I feel for you and your wife.

We were late in our breeding too - I've recently turned 40, and my youngest is about to be 6, while my moody eldest (PinkMothra07) is 8. I should mention, that although she is not (yet) back into Civ, she is playing and beginning to mod Minecraft, so I guess in some sense I've passed a torch.

I am not real clear on what is or is not allowed to discuss in this thread in particular, so all I ask is that I just get warned if I cross a line, before any more stringent action is taken against me :)

That sounds awful Plotinus. I feel for you and your wife. My Wife had a pretty rough first Trimester with morning sickness all day long every day. Second and Third were better but also she had some quite suvere pain a couple of times. Hope the birth goes well! It's incredible when your child finally arrives. Nothing else like it.

Advide: unless the hospital on the other side of the channel are really bad, go to the hospital. If anything goes wrong at home, you'd be sorry.
It can be somethign simple: like when my daughter was born, she had a little difficulty breathing. So they put her in a "box" with extra oxygen, just for 30 minutes and it was OK. How could you do that at home?

That's true, but you're much less likely to have anything go wrong if you do it at home, because the stress levels of the mother make a huge difference and she's far less likely to get stressed at home. So they actually encourage home births now, as being safer.

Well, we do - the hospital's 20 minutes away. As I say, the midwives encourage home births as being safer, and they're able to tell if there are likely to be any issues requiring a move to the hospital at any point.
