Meet the Modders

Let's see, there's only the one football, no matter what the Unitedstatesians might tell you.

Then there's this thing called ‘CFC-OT’. It somehow produces meaningful discussion and well-written English intermixed with various impassionate defences of ‘values’, political shilling and trolling, people who consider Marvel comics films to be ‘art’, baseball fans, Chelsea fans, Pinochet fans, 1960s tankie leftovers, etc. If you have a thick skin, time to spare and/or the need to practise your written English then feel free to find it, but I shall not link to it here.

Consider it found.

I'll probably respond with something later when I have some free time.
Let's see, there's only the one football, no matter what the Unitedstatesians might tell you.
Of course I know there's only one Football. Even I accept though, that there are many footballs. Even here we have a Rugby Football that was originally a derivative of Football (The One & Only).

One last warning for those who dare venture into CFC-OT: the moderators may be overworked but when they mean that a sensitive subject is banned (Tom Petty, don't ask) or quarantined to a particular thread (Israel, Brexit, etc. etc.) then your posts will be deleted whenever it happens.

I don't want to hog the thread with Introduction to OT, but I really should update my description, or else people will still think I'm a teenaged highschooler 14 years after joining CFC.

ronning, that´s great that you have found your old 'space victory' graphics. :) May be it would also be a good idea to reopen a thread about your great mod or at least to add these graphics to the Civ 3 downloads at CFC.

Im tearing back into old projects. I think its that 50th birthday coming up. It makes you look at things you never finished and have renewed motivation.

Not only age-related :). Every now and then isnt there an urge just to come back to civ3? But you dont want to come back until you finish your mod, because that mod has all the gameplay enhancements you have desired? That's how it is with me anyway, and this isnt the first time lately, though this time I didnt stop playing civ3, just, stopped playing singleplayer and stopped modding.

For those who were wondering and/or worrying, Oz is back.

I’ve dropped out of school for personal reasons but since Christmas is coming btw my brother is 11 by now

Yes I’m barely talking due to two painful canker sores under my tongue (hurts like hell)

Have applied ( but not yet heard back on acceptance) to speak at a TEDx hosted by my undergrad alma mater. I would be talking - from the perspective of an anthropologist - about using virtual world creation as a core component of curricula. Thanks to all you guys for a lot of the initial ideas that led me on to this fieldwork focus.

That actually sounds very impressive. I've watched a number of TEDx talks and rarely been unimpressed.
Please post a link of the video when it's up & ready if you get the gig.

Haven’t played civ 3 for awhile (got new games like stellaris)

it’s Christmas, watching anime, playing games on my xbox one getting back to civ 3 soon

Got the generic boilerplate email yesterday. Did not get accepted to speak at the TEDx. Not surprising - they stated there were 300+ applicants.

Somewhat of a relief on several counts. Big one being the next two weeks are going to be extremely busy in my fieldwork. Majorly busy. I'll post screenshots in a soon (a few days) to show you what I mean.

Ah, that's too bad (for the audience anyway). Still, there's nothing but time to stop you from uploading your own talk :D

Meanwhile, things have been slowly happening behind the scenes of the more exciting space headlines lately. My team now has hardware on orbit, and we're preparing for live operation within the next month or so.

Orbit, eh? That does sound interesting. I take it your civ has researched Satellites? I've read some interesting stuff about SpaceX's ambitious plans to launch a satellite-based ISP; it sounds pretty useful, really. Although I have no idea if that's at all related to your orbital hardware.

(But if it is, I would be quite curious to get in contact via DM or Steam. It sounds a lot more interesting than the Big Oil work my company has been lining up recently)

It's not related, but yes SpaceX has at least two swarms(?) In their ISP constellation now with more on the way. I'm excited by the prospect of dropping Comcast like a hot mixtape.

Anyway yes my civ has researched satellites and in fact constructed a space station. Sadly there's not a lot about this project on the public web yet, but here's a concept video:
We built the RFID payload and mission software (fun fact, the Astrobee is an Android device) which was delivered on the Cygnus in November.
Just controlling robots in space, nbd. We're always hiring.
