I believe that this lady had it coming. We know that things similar to those depicted in the film occured: human sacrifices, urban warriors attacking rural villages for captives, etc. I think that the lady was off-base; but of course there's no way that any movie can be made without academics in California calling it racist.

Maybe so, but i think that was pretty unproffesional and unacceptable of mel gibson to say that at a college presentation.

I did not see the movie myself, but after seeing 300 and hearing the criticisms that movie got for its "Racism" and so forth i must say that certain people should get a life, a movie is not by definition a documentary, i don't know if Mel is claiming that his movie is a Historical portrayal of the Maya culture or (like 300) a fictional story in a pseudo-historical setting, but if its the latter people should just shut up on whether it is accurate or not, it is meant to entertain not educate.

I thought about this alot today (not really), and have come to the conclusion that this was a good response by Mel. He's in the right. He's not an academic, so who cares if he uses an expletive? I suppose he could have said she was way off base, and to bug off. But that wouldn't have been as much fun.
I do think Mel has some serious issues though. And anger management problems. If anyone remembers the arrest last year, sure he made the anti-jew remarks. But he also called a female police officer sweet tits. I think he has some old fashioned issues with women. So perhaps he does have a problem with women academics. But in her case, she was just trolling him calling the film not PC.

Incas did too, IIRC, but we're talking about Mayans here.
And Mayans did certainly engage in human sacrifice. It was one of the major contributors to the downfall of their civilization in 700-800s.
