This morning I was watching the news about Bush Senior's meeting with the South Korean president. Not surprisingly there were war protests somewhere nearby (I think probably outside the building, not sure), and one of the protest signs read:

"Stop the war, you're the father of all bombs!"

What are some of the most memorable protest slogans that you have seen or heard of?

Liever een raket in de tuin dan een Rus in de keuken.

translate:

Better a rocket in the garden than a Russian in the kitchen.

It was used in the early 80's when NL had to decide about 48 nukes. Some anti rocket protestors came up with the 'fact' that some Russians are excellents cooks.

If it's not only about war protests, I think the slogans of May 68 are by far the best. Slogans like "Power to imagination", "Love yourselves one on top of another" (maybe it doesn't work as well in english), "I am marxist, Groucho type", "Be realistic, demand the impossible" and many, many more have earned their place in history.

edit: Belle du Jour beat me posting two more.

I doubt that! They invented fast food remember! Anyway when I grow up and become rich, I will probaly move to France for the food.

On topic: We have a french slogan in our royal weapon / logo:

Je maintiendrai

How about 'Bush murderer' (from 'Johnson Murderer' in the 1970's)

Or my favorite: 'Bush has flappy ears'

I recall a funny sign waved by a pro-war protestor:

"Use your brain, you Morans"...

A classic!

I was always amused by my former leftist colleagues who repeatedly chanted "no justice, no peace" at every rally - until war came along in '91 and "What do we want? Peace! When do we want it? Now!" suddenly leapt to the forefront.

And now, the cycle has repeated itself :D .

R.III

But on topic, the British "make tea, not war" always had an amusing cosiness to it that more activists could learn from.

Recently -

"Other than ending Nazism,Facism, slavery and communism...
What good has war ever achieved?"

Don't agree with the sentiment 100%, but there's a point to be made there...

When I was writing about the Cold War - Vietnam War I remember a sign that said "Hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?":)

"Save a tree - eat a beaver."

"Hell No We Won't Go!"
"No Blood for Oil!"

Two classics...

"Bush is a Liar, His Pants Are on Fire!"

 I heard of this one on the Daily Show. Hilarious.

"Make war, not love. In the age of AIDS, it's safer."

"Drop Bush not bombs"
