Anyone know how to remedy this situation? I was in the middle of a game and it crashed because of a memory allocation error

There is a fix, but i dont it works with mods. Im BtS so far i havent recived MAF.

What's the fix? I just got Warlords, because support for the Vanilla version of this mod is kaput. I've absolutely no intention of now upgrading the game further, just to run a mod.

I never had a MAF with Civ until I tried this mod. While this machine is a couple years old, I'm pretty sure it should have the horsepower to run TR.

Well, its becouse Vanilla has 400 turns game length. Maybe even 300.
I for once reached reinesance in 180 turns...
If you play on Marathon, you get more turns, but slower production, resarch, growth etc.

In TR we have more turns, but you dont have slower resarch and/or production. So you can make more units/cities/buildings in less turns that on marathon in Vanilla.
This leads to more units, cities - just call this INFO, that must be stored in memory.

I think the fix for Warlords is somewhere arround cfc. But its for 2.08 and its changes to exe file (i think). So will not work with Steam, and propabilly Civ4Gold editions.

So, you're saying that 1GB of RAM, a 2GB Swap file, and 256MB video RAM is not enough to store that "info"? I'm finding that a bit difficult to believe. When the game dumps, the most recent save (auto, manual, whatever) is also corrupted. When the game closes, it takes a long time for the memory used, to release.

"cfc"?

I think there's a memory leak, either with Civ itself, or the coding in the mod (my guess is the latter, as I never experienced the memory problems, prior).

Thanks,
Eggs

It is the core game at fault, not any mods.

IGB ram is very small for Civ4. So no wonder you have problems.

BTS has fixed a few of these problems, but TR is not yet available for BTS (a lot of extra work is required - not a simple upgrade.)

Why they make it difficult to upgrade mods from one expansion to another is beyond belief. But we have to live with it.

1 GB is definitely a bit on the weak side. I have 3 GB and I usually quit playing most games when I get to the industrial era on large maps because it is running so slow. Huge or larger maps, forget it.

I have 4GB and Quad core at 3.6GHz and I still get bad memory allocation its the Mod Not the game i played Civ4 ,warlords,BtS and i never had any problems. Please help me in finding a cure has any one made it to the end with bad memory alloction?

God dammmmmm it!!!!
I still keep getting this Crap!!CTD bad memory alocation
I only have a 180 turns this freaking Sucks!!!!
Help...help!!
Any ideas on what to do or how to keep playing?

I only have Dual core at 3ghz *cries*

It's the game not the mod. That is definite.

Firaxis wrote a bad memory saving routine which only showed when large memory eating files are saved. These only tend to occur with mods because of all the additional items added that use up the memory.

This has been fixed by Firaxis in BTS. You just have to live with it in Warlords.

Don't play the Earth map and do not play on huge maps. Also turn your graphic settings down. That should help.

xbeanerx, it's not even just Firaxis. Look up the error on google and you may find this great article. That article focuses on Vista gaming (where the 2GB barrier is even worse from what they say).

Basically Windows can not assign more than 2GB of ram to a single 32-bit application because of the way hardware and software (mainly operating system software) were designed so many years ago. There are programming practices, however, that can address this before it happens and that is up to the applicatin programmer to do (ie Firaxis). the TR team develop their mod as they see fit hoping for Firaxis to resolve the issue (like they have with BTS for the most part, though nobody has yet to create a mod with as much content as TR has)

Thanks for the info.:goodjob:

well Civ is still a 32-bit app so it's not going to 100% solve your problem afaik, but that is getting beyond my knowledge of such matters.
