Greetings,
I've been playing civ4 for a while now and i tend to find that the game grinds to halt in terms of playing speed by approx 1800ad. (in game)
my last game of 11 civs on a huge map, quick time setting, and 1024 x 768 screen res resulted in this slow down.
Whilst investigating the cause i noticed that civ takes up a wopping 670mb of memory, yes almost 700 mb, surely this has to be some kind of mem leak, my machine is no slouch and even with 1gb of ddr 400 and the game just grinds to a steady decline until it becomes unplayable.
Following the memory issue is that the game also seems to have a few sound issues, my card a sb audigy live can cope with most things and yet not civ4... most odd.....i get reports of a 2d sound driver failing to initialise if i try use the in game mp3 feature.
Updating drivers, ATI, Creative, windows xp fixes and the rest has resulted in no significant improvement. Trawling through most civ 4 forums has also resulted in no solution. If possible could some others please post the amount of memory civ is using on a similar map. with 90% of the world explored. and 11 civs.
Thanks
D
