Meshabber of Dis

Also they are not that useful. A single Rozier with blitz/orthus axe and mobility makes much more damage/turn than Meshabber. And at the time the Mesh enters the world my Rozier usually is at level 13-15 (if not killed yet) with all of the 3 horsemen' weapons.

it common to read that the Avatars cost too much. Obviously, someone should build them only if he thinks it is worth it.

As for the Avatar being a unit, this is why we can hurry production by paying gold. If you want to build something so badly, start saving early ;)

And, as another player suggested, think in advance, prepare your holy city accordingly etc.

If I was in a game, have founded Ashen Veil, and it was in a so much unfavorable location, as described on the first post, I wouldn't consider building this unit in this game. But if I wanted it that much, I would have saved lots of gold, much before the AC reached 70.

I'd rather save it up and buy the tower of mastery if conquest is going to take so long. That is what the end game units are for right? To aid with conquest?
Well, not really. I usually end up having to baby my end game units before they're really useful. Maybe making them start with a load of free xp would help...

yeah is the Avatar of hell, right?

I really think that the religions shouldn't automatically be founded. Instead, the civ should get a disciple, which can then found the religion in your choice of city.
sounds like a very well idea. but than again it would be possible to focus severall religions in one singel city and that would make a few buildings like the bazaar of mamon an incredibly money print machine. still, i like the idea!
That happens anyway now, especially if you try for it or are playing as the Kuriotates and only have one actual non-capitol city. It is a big problem for exactly the reasons you mention. However the disciple idea (which I wanted even back in vanilla BTS) actually discourages founding multiple religions in the same city, due to the chance of failure involved in spreading multiple religions to a city.

And on a related note to some of the other points being brought up in this thread, it seems like certain religions (like AV and Order) should reduce the chances of their opposite spreading to the city. Conversely, Inquisition should be targeted at one religion at a time, since some of the religions are fairly okay with each other.

More along the lines of the original purpose of this thread, I had a recent brainstorm: What if all of the Avatars (for this to work there would need to be one for each religion) spawned automatically at AC 70. Depending on the status of the holy city (mainly if it's in the wrong hands) they could start barbarian.
AV: Goes barbarian if the city is held by a non-evil civ.
RoK: Goes barbarian if the city is held by an evil civ.

New avatars:
Order: The angel that was opposite Sphener when he volunteered to fall. Goes barbarian if the city is held by a non-good civ, but is under AI control (like enraged) if it's a non-Order civ.
OO: Some form of tentacled monstrosity from the depths. Weaker than the other avatars, but has Water Walking and double strength in water tiles. Goes barbarian if the city is held by a non-OO civ.
CoE: A shadow avatar, weaker than the others but invisible and with hidden nationality. Only goes barbarian if the city is held by an Empyrean or Order civ.
Empyrean: The archangel of Lugus. Can cast all Sun and Empyrean spells, and has Sun affinity. Goes barbarian if the city is held by an evil civ.
FoL: No ideas yet.

The only useful heroes are the ones that can be resurrected. I don't even mind paying another 5000 hammers to get a new one, just as long as I am able to.

At least the Meshabber of Dis can gain drill promotions, making it exponentially less likely to die by accident than The Mithril Golem. Auric Ascended is a total joke - the avatar promotion makes it MORE likely to defend, and likewise be dogpiled.

Lore-wise, the existance of the avatars in the game could be construed as breaking the compact. Whenever an Angel does it, it's a story.

The best heroes are the ones that can wreak havoc without getting into direct combat. That means Chalid, Auric Ascended (end his turns on lakes or peaks if you don't want him fighting), and to a lesser extent Hemah and Arthendain. And if you really stretch it, Gilden.

I could move my capital. But it is usually (or will be due to its location) my best city food and production considered.

new avatar units for other treligions sounds like an awesome idea. Although neither meshabber or Mythril golem are actually considered "avatars", in the sense that they don't have that race.

the Avatar racial promotion REALLY needs to lose the "more likely to defend" . poor Auric gets swarmed and killed way too easily.

Built MoD for the first time in many patches. Didn't he once have an area of effect fire thing similar to ring of flames? Seems rather silly that this great lord of fire is just spitting out a regular fireball...

He needs a special ability. How about tsunami except with fire? Or perhaps a mega fire ball with extra range, way for str, and more collateral damage. How about both? Would certainly be a good way to make him worth some of the cost (which still needs to be at least halved).

Yes, he used to have Fire II/Divine (actually he still does, but back then that allowed Ring of Flames), and Ring of Flames worked through a python call that doubled its strength if the caster was Meshabber of Dis.

I personally think that he should loose Fire II and gain a new SPELL_RING_OF_FIRE_GREATER, with a range of 2 and high damage/ damage cap (maybe even no cap?), like Auric Ascended's SPELL_SNOWFALL_GREATOR (why is greater spelled with an o here?)

he also should be at MOST 2000 hammers
1000 is better
