Mesopotamia units

The Parthians were Dahae people and they are Scythians, until Aršak or Arsaces leader of the Parni unite the Dahae Clans from Suren, Karen, Espahbad, Naudar, and other Parthian noble families into the Parthian Confederacy. Parthians or Dahae live below the Amu-Darya River and around the grasslands of the Karakum or modern day Turkmenistan. As Parthia annexed Persia and Mesopotamia, Parthians began to settle in Iran and Mesopotamia but they have several Parthian Subkingdoms exist in Parthian Empire from Persis, Atropatene, Adiabene, Elymais, Characene, Suren(Indo-Parthian) and Armenia (although Armenia wasn't but eventually an Arsacid Dynasty emerged from Armenia). Parthians remained a powerful force during Abbassid Revolution, they join the Arabs, Persians and Turks to overthrow the Umayyad Caliphate and some Parthian noble families still manage to create several quasi Sassanid Dynasty during Islamic Caliphate until early Abbassid Caliphate.

ok, nice lesson of history but you missed the point with the cataphracts. cataphracts were not brought into existence for close combat. they can be easy teared down by infantry formation or hunted by heavy javelin or angon throwers (roman tactics). their main and very possible unique role was to HUNT ENEMY HORSE ARCHERS, cause these would kill the mount, if the horse would be unarmoured.
 
That's why Parthian field horse archers because the Parthian Army cannot totally rely on cataphract or horse archer.
 
Roman Legionary use Pila or Pilum and later they use Veruta, Angon was a weapon duplicate by the Germans with similar function.
 
Early cataphract role was to hunt down horse archer and their armor can be leather, bronze scales and lamellar which offer little protection from hand-to-hand combat. As the Parthians begin to invade Roman territory, they increase the armor thickness and adopted iron lamellar and chainmail to encounter Roman melee advantage. Weapons like mace and battle axe was issued to encounter armored infantry and armored cavalry thus give rise of the clibanarii.

Parvaneh Pourshariati's Decline and Fall of the Sassanian Empire The Sassanian-Parthian
Confederacy and the Arab conquest of Iran have a lot of precious information about Sassanian Army from the beginning to the Arab Conquest. You can read it from E-Library. Some books like Al-Tabari's The History of Al-Tabari was good source of information but it have its own flaw because Al-Tabari's works came from earlier source written by other Arab and Persian authors.
 
ammianus marcellinus is 60 cm away from myself, i read some aspects but i have to read it toroughly. as concerning al tabari, i will read as soon as possble. thank you.

... or you can just copy the ini file from the Assyrian Worker, copy it into the Parthian Worker folder and rename it to "Parthian Worker" and voila :D
 
ares, i want to ask you a question, did you used armour made of horn (cowhorn), it is intriguing me for weeks now. how does it behave, is it light?? i read something about, but i want to hear from somebody who saw or used it...
